Aftermarket Mustang Mach-E Hands Free Liftgate Installation Tutorial

Since Ford did away with the powered kick to open liftgate, many of us have really missed that feature. Fortunately Simon, with EV-Vida, has made a DIY module to upgrade your Mach-E to have this feature again. Our friends Pia and Vincent wanted to get this installed on their beautiful Baymax Iced White Mustang Mach-E, so we snagged to opportunity to document the entire installation.

Required tools: 10mm and 7mm socket, three (3) butt connectors, one 20-22 gauge positap (for trigger wire), one 16-18 gauge positap (for power), and one crimp tool.

I took delivery of my new 2023 Mach-E last Thursday. Much to my surprise it still included the automatic parking system and the automatic (kick) liftgate. While I read on forums that it had been discontinued. Mine still has it. Great surprise and much impressed with this car. Coming from a BMW 5, this one frankly impresses me more.

I have a 2023 CR1 and it doesn't have a power liftgate, no RGB lights inside, and the |P| button on my center console only finds parking lots when you press it!? I was super pissed to find out all the things that were removed because of COVID and supply issues. Ford should offer to install that stuff back in, now that they are available. That's what Tesla did when they were missing some non-essential equipment.

@@evanacosta1 not gonna happen. I've been to my dealer today. Pitching up a storm about this issue. I gave them all the part numbers and everything to install the hands-free kick feature and they said they couldn't do it.

@@Magicinstalls I ended up installing the auto lift gate, but not the kick plate. It took me almost 10 hours to get it nailed down so it looks factory installed. I also installed the "slow close" feature which is nice since the factory version just drops the trunk once it reaches its lowest point. Mine is a lease, so the missing features are not a problem, it's just annoying.

We have installed Autoease liftgate for many customers who complained the Mach E didn’t have one. One thing I tell them is it takes about 6+ hours to do it in a manner that results in a clean set up. So you nailed it when you say the keyword of the day is patience!

Simon, I'm a little confused about the wire extensions. I mean there's so much wire that comes in the kit. Why would you need to extend it?

Here at FOMOCO we have to eliminate Rapid Red but just for the Bronco. And convenience features like tailgate lifts. And you have to go to a aftermarket parts co. for hood struts when we already have hatchback struts on hand

Great video on removing trim inside hatch, thanks! My wife rear ended me and I needed to pop out a big dent. The only method was to push it out and I couldn't figure out how to remove the inside trim. Huge help, thanks!

We had the hands-free liftgate on our O.G. Mach-E, Blucifer, but our new Blucifer doesn't have it. We don't miss it though. Was the Liv lift dance me trying to open it? - Liv

No, you need the power liftgate for this to work.

Do Ford dealers carry the clips in stock or do you need to order ahead just in case of loss or breaking ?

I would imagine that they do have them in stock, but you could always check with your dealer first.

Most of the clips are well built and unlikely to break. Bring a magnetic tool if it falls so you can easily retrieve.

Hmm. My 2021 RWD mach-e came with "automatic" motorised tailgate. Put your foot under, and it opens/closes

Ford had a parts supply issue so it was removed on some 2022 and 2023 models.

Appreciate seeing a little DIY content, but at 21:35 I was cringing seeing him cut through those four wires with scissors. The metal scissors would be shorting across the wires and could blow fuses quite easily or cause other problems. Those wires should be cut individually. Actually, even after that, he is feeding that red wire through the metal frame of the vehicle with those bare ends risking more short circuits. The better solution would be avoid cutting the harness by routing it through the grommet, etc. before attaching it to the button and screw, etc.

Absolutely! Routing wires should always take precaution; ideally, we would have routed wires independent from the module and then connected the module afterward to these wires. One reason we opted not to route the wires with the connector is primarily because of the grommet. Mach E grommet is the opposite of user friendly. Thank you for your observation!

Liftgate being automatic is pribably the LAST reason why one would buy a premium mach E. Im assuming that if you care about it, you shouldve went with the premium model as it probably has 50 other things that youll like and want.
