Maybe air trapped in the hvac system? I agree, very weird. I've been in construction all my life and went through a small flood in my home years ago. Let me know if I can give you any advice when the water is down and you start the rebuilding process. One good thing, the water looks fairly clean as a lot of mud just makes things worse.

Sewer gasses and back flow from the sewer lines is the bubbling you heard. Most likely you don't have a backflow check valve installed in your outgoing sewer line, or the valve is stuck open. If you return to your house, open windows to prevent gas buildup inside. Shutting the power off was a wise move. Anything the water has touched should be disinfected and cleaned thoroughly. That goes for those hip waders and the outside of the Pelican cases as well. A simple wash down with warm soapy water and a rinse with clear water that has bleach in it would do the trick. Then let air dry in sunlight, as the UV will also help kill the nasty's. 1 cup of bleach to 4 gallons of water should be good, any stronger and you risk damaging the material from the bleach. Stay safe, and I do hope you can rebuild your home. BTW, I was a commercial diver for years, and had to dive in everything from raw sewage to radioactive holes. We cleaned our gear the same way, using the method I described, and it works just fine.
@tomruth94877 жыл бұрын
Good advice, I think you might be right on the back flow issue. I had the same nasty sewer water in my home with no back flow valve, but I survived.

It’s now April 2019... I have not been able to watch your accounts... or others for that matter. To date... a dear friend lost her home because insurance wouldn’t cover the required work to repair the home... like new wiring in the ceiling... cause it didn’t get wet. Another friend still has holes in her walls... we were blessed beyond belief because we only lost a 10x10 storage unit with many family heirlooms. However we have our life, our children and our granddaughter. My boys... were some of the rescuers in our area. The devastation they saw... at 20 years old... amazes me... haunts me and makes me fear for another storm. We have started really prepping for another storm. Hubby has a theory... based off all the hurricanes we have lived through... before a hurricane... the lovebugs seem to be extensive! I really want to do more research on this theory... because many lives could be altered if this is correct!

Dint feel that way.. It could be some bad people out there downvoting but he took So many Huge risks he didn't even know he was taking. Even marking the house which fortunately he didn't imitate the responders marking. So I think people are down voting because they are worried for him or worried other people will do this. It's not a commentary on the video, which is excellent quality, or his devastating loss. I think people are down voting going into an active flood for possessions. He did a really smart thing by letting people know where he was, but even then this is a super bad idea. The video is very informative for the public but it's full of things you should never do. He got lucky. He could've easily gotten unlucky. Also the down votes could be because his mother told him not to go and he did anyway as he said in the earlier video. Maybe it's a bunch of concerned mothers. 😊

If you don't know how to gut a house you could be learning from those who are doing it where the water has already receded. Go talk to them learn from them. There may be a sheetrock shortage. In New Orleans they sold Chinese sheetrock that was toxic. Buy a trusted brand. You could fill your van with sheetrock in case they have a shortage or be figuring how much you will need. Whoever is going to help you take them with you to watch people gutting their houses. You will need masks and maybe hazmat gear. You are lucky you have a garage and backyard. Lots of room to put salvageable goods. If you could get airtight, waterproof containers and fill them with your clothes, pictures, electronics,salvageables you could save a lot. Do you know about plastic bags for mattresses to prevent bedbugs? They are heavyweight plastic and are sealable. U-Haul sells them. LargeTubs would be better but more $$. Anything to seal your belongings from mold to come. The water is bad but the mold is terrible. Since the mayor wants people to stay out that means nobody can open up doors and windows. This makes perfect conditions for mold growth. I would have begged the guy offering to help the lady for help. I don't think you would have been out of place to at least give him your number...he was looking to help afterall.

I’m in La Grange, TX.. my house had over 6ft of Colorado River gushing through it at record current speeds. Nobody in our lifetime had seen such a record flood stage.. Usually 3.5-4ft in depth, the river crested at 54.5ft.. It’s a very surreal and almost helpless overwhelming feeling just knowing life will never be the same, when you see your home like that, just seeing the community in such a state was so heart gripping.. once waters receded it was like shock waves like trying to fight a nightmare and wake up but it’s not a dream it’s real and you think like maybe I could have saved this or that or done this or that differently? So many thoughts hit at once. Response as far as relief efforts were heartfelt, the entire community was supportive and people literally came from other states and even other countries and over seas to help with relief efforts! Ultimately the house was gutted down to just a skeleton of studs.. all pipes and wiring was torn out after the house was raised 14” as required by FEMA and flood insurance regulations to avoid a significant rise in our premium which then impacts our monthly mortgage payments due to escrow..Anyway, I got emotional during the video, different points of your journey between E:1 and E:2. That was a long time for your home to be under water! In 1998 my parents home flooded. This river remained elevated for 7 days starting October 16th, 1998. We were rescued and watching fire ants float was just also surreal as a kid. This time around August 28th 2017, our house went under. 9 ft difference in how high it had reached to in 98! Yeah, this effected about 1/5th of our town. Last time it was a way smaller scale of victims, except it was a widespread event. Resources and relief just wasn’t at our fingertips like it was this time.. also, evacuations occurred this time.. As a skywarn spotter for NWS I realized 4-5 days in advance of the flood that we were pretty doomed as far as calculations from expected rain fall totals mixed with our city drainage, runoff and anything upstream.. Nobody took me serious til literally the last moments. Also, this time around the water receded quite quickly. It was 3-4 days of my house being submerged and unreachable then just like that the neighborhoods were swarming with so many volunteers gutting out the houses to try to save the structures! And a lot of us were successful in doing so and subsequently treating for mold (countless times)! Nearly a year later, we were displaced but forced back sooner than expected and as a result are living in the “1/2 story” of the house aka the finished attic which is set up like an apartment to some degree. Downstairs has Sheetrock back up, taped/floated and most is textured and painted, we’ve rewired and the old plumbing is gone, what’s there is where we’ve gotten to so far, it’s the flexible blue type of plumbing for incoming water lines said to be insulated with tons of advantages, we’ll see, but here’s the problem.. our insurance company USAA released our flood policy funds written to us AND the mortgage company who is withholding almost $40,000 from us during a critical state of this project. We cannot finish the floors or install any trim, door frames or move forward financially (kitchen is just old sub floors requiring a secondary plywood subfloor then flooring and also just, cabinets, countertops etc.. it’s just walls and ceiling at this point and we are at a standstill continuing to make monthly mortgage payments while fighting this company who’s had every lame excuse and has made us run in circles and chase our tails doing what they say and gathering whatever they wanted as far as prices and estimates and they’d made promises and more promises, yet they’ve done nothing to act upon them.. we are just in limbo and it’s hard because the kids want to be in their rooms.. it’s a construction zone!! It’s scary and just devastating, we are in the process of signing with legal representation to fight this company.. hanging in there) I hope and pray that you and your family are okay now.. And if you’re in this long wait line we call “limbo” like us (it’s only us and another couple in town going through this while everyone else is completing their homes or have been back for many months now and their homes are completed!!) I hope deeply that it’s resolved for y’all. It’s hard because as parents we want to comfort our children and bought homes for security and comfort for them.. Instead we have to fight to hold emotions in while in front of them and hide if we are overwhelmed. Sometimes it’s hard to answer their questions which are simple under other circumstance just not when you’re home has been struck by disaster and your mortgage company is leaving you out in the cold, in this case triple digit heat, supposed to be a lighthearted joke lol, but anyway. I hope you and anyone else & all the families effected by any crisis or disaster find resolution and get back on your feet as far as day to day “norm”... TX strong!

I live in North Alabama and you managed to capture such a raw, real perspective of your community, your home and the long slow lived effects of Hurricane Harvey. The purity of your story and it's elements within aren't just said like they often are in media, but they are truly seen in real time. Even though your community was devastated I would happily move there simply because of the neighborly spirt that I see in your videos and how it's impacted me. Quiet often when media covers an event like the hurricane it's more than overwhelming due to the amounts of clips that are flashed on the TV screen. Unfortunately, more often than not just as quickly forgotten because our minds are overwhelmed by the images. If we could see and hear more stories📷 like 📲🖥yours, I believe📱 people would be "edge of their seat" involved. It’s just air pockets being released because of the buckling floor might wanna be careful if you have a basement or crawl space and there is probably water in the pipes that are gurgling so you should be safe once the water goes away check your floor joists and supports just to be on the safe side

.Stuff is just stuff, you are safe, your family is safe. Memories are in your head, and you are alive to make new memories. Thats what's important. Not trying to sound cold, I watched your videos with my hand over my mouth and tears streaming down my face. But I lived in Texas for over 10 years, Austin then Abilene, my daughter was born in Austin. I know that Texans can fall to their knees but they get right back up with fists swinging ready to fight through whatever is thrown at them. Houston and every town in Texas affected by Harvey will not only rebuild, but rebuild better and then turn and ask Florida what they can do to help, because Texans have a heart just as big as their state. I live in Nevada now, but you can never take Texas out of a person once you live there. So my heart and my soul and some of my savings is with y'all. God Bless!

So sorry this happened to you. I live in Humble, and I had similar experience. Not with house but with cars. And, Insurance doesn't seem to care that much. Taking forever to do anything about it. I've lost 3 cars. Don't know what I will do now. Afraid of the future ...

I wonder if his slow and methodic walking is good or bad in terms of attracting alligators. It's definitely smart when your walking through a flooded neighborhood where you can't tell if there's a new whole or something dangerous under the water. I think alligators would be attracted to the loud sound of someone rushing through the water.

When they release water from the Addick's Reservoir that should drain your neighborhood. Maybe you knew that. I'm watching this hoping the current El Nino doesn't make this year as bad as 2017. I hope you all were able to recover in good shape.
