Afternoon Tea vs High Tea, What's the Difference?

Are you heading to England or Scotland or Wales and not sure what the difference is between Afternoon tea and high tea? Well aside from when it is served there is also the types of food served at afternoon tea (think cakes and finger sandwiches and scones) versus high tea which is dinner or supper as some people call it in the US.

You can find good teas in the US too. Gryphon Tea Room in Savannah, Ga is a good standby. I took my goddaughter there recently, and everything was tasty.

I went to the UK last year and fell in love with clotted cream. How I wish I could find it here in Brazil!

You can make it using heavy cream and butter (sem sal). Most recipes call for cooking it in the oven, but there are some that I find easier using only a pan on the stovetop. Boa sorte!

As a Brit, afternoon tea is a posh afternoon out with fancy sandwiches and cakes on a tiered tray. High tea doesn't exist for us. It's something the Queen might have had, but no normal folks know what the hell that is.

My wife is about 95% GF and I'm more of a gluten-light, I have been finding over about the past year and a half that the quality of items that are gluten free is getter much better. We did it more for simply healthier eating options than any "allergies." That said, how did you find the difference in the taste during your Afternoon tea?

I didn't try the gluten-ful foods, but all my foods were good. They didn't necessarily substitute the same things made with gf flour...they gave me different, but tasty, sweets that had no flour of any kind.

It’s pronounced “scon” - never “scone”. However this is the way my mother explained high & low tea. NOT ‘high tea’ because it’s on a tiered plate. 🙄 She was born in 1908 & her mother ran a coffee palace.

PLEASE, do not use the noise reduction tools so hard. That sounds wrong. So much artifacts. Go for a clean audio. Even with more background noise... If you have to use them, please use max 20%... otherwise it sounds unnatural. THANKS!!! 😊
