To be fair (assuming the games follow our real world) the 1980's were the time of highest crime rates in the U.S (i.e. serial killers) Also, the 1980's are a time where major plotlines/events in FNAF happen. And keep in mind, were weren't as sufficient in catching suspects and evidence at that time compared to today. Which could explain why William got away so easily (I know MattPat explained but I just thought that was food for thought).

The problem is, he can't really tell you what games things are from because clues are in all of them. Some of the conclusions aren't even from games. Some are from security log activity book, source code, and real books. You don't even learn Willaim's name in game until the 5th one. Most of the actual story in the games are through easter eggs, death screen games, and other things. So if he told you what game the information came from, he'd be updating you every couple seconds jumping around.
