I don't understand this either. We live in the upper part of the south and we always keep salt on hand for this. In fact our daughter and her husband just bought a new house with stairs and I reminded her to remember to buy salt for those times in the winter that we get snow/ice. Which has already happened twice this winter.

The sidewalk and to the mailbox needs to be clean so the mailman dont fall.. its a law.❤ We salt the roads too.., the county have big salt spreading machines.. it rust all cars though.. but less ppl are killed when the weather gets icy or snowy ❤❤❤ Where are you from?
