Question 14: "Obviously never snake on your friends ever, but just say you would in the interview so you can get the job" :P

Hi Afzal, Thank you for another insightful video! I attend a non-target uni in Africa and I also have no academic background/internships in finance. A while back, I found some of your videos while putting my application together for a new grad role at Goldman Sachs. Your insightful videos and detailed explanations really helped me through my application, HireVue, Superday, and VP interview. I have now received a full-time job offer at GS! Thank you for the effort you put into creating these videos. Your work is surely impacting lots of people like me around the world. Stay blessed!

Update on my questions. I interviewed for the early careers program client services and sales. I had 5 questions, I don’t remember the first. 1. You have a presentation to give Monday. You were also invited to a conference on that same day, you really want to go to the conference. What do you do? Why do you chose that option. 2. You have just submitted a critical monthly report on behalf of your team to your manager. You realize there is a mistake on part of the report that is small and probably wont be noticed. What would you do? 3. Your manager assigns you to a working group to begin working on a project the other employees that you’re working with all know each other really well but you don’t. What would you do in this situation? 4. A work committee that you are a part of is looking to hire a junior leadership position. Normally they consider employees who have 2 years of leadership experience. You want this position but you only have 1 year of experience and no previous experience in leadership. What do you do?
@jacksonhansen83663 жыл бұрын
Anyone have a good response/idea for #4? I feel like there's a conflict of interest and the safe answer would be to not apply. Just want to know others' thoughts. This one is a little tough to answer not given a ton of info

@@jacksonhansen8366 same confused about the 4th one
@thechump12 жыл бұрын
Yes 4 seemed like a conflict of interest question at first, but on second reading it can also be taken as a question about how you leverage opportunity. Here’s some options: 1. Sit back and accept your position in the committee until you have two years experience etc. 2. Leverage the opportunity by making the team aware of your interest and request feedback for your interest in the position. Do you display key competencies or character traits? Are they willing to give you more training and responsibility to display your leadership skills? Depending on feedback you can decide whether to apply or not.
@mokusatsu88993 жыл бұрын
I think question 14's best answer is to first approach them and try to have a good faith conversation with them and suggest they come forward voluntarily. If they still refuse, you then escalate and report them.

I've had a few superdays with Goldman and here were the questions that were asked in my HireVue (from what I remember) 1. Why are you interested in Goldman Sachs 2. What challenges did you encounter in your current role and what did you do to become successful? 3. Your manager asks you to submit a report of high importance to the client. However, after submitting the report, you realize that you made a mistake in a section that no one will likely read. What will you do? 4. How will you go about working in a new team where you don't know anyone and how will you succeed?

what was your answer for 3? I know I would give a technical answer but I'm assuming thy are looking for an answer pertaining to soft skills.

add to the list: "How will you handle a situation when you have an important work deadline approaching and you have a personal event that you have been looking forward to approaching soon that conflicts with the work coming up" / i think they want to hear you say that you can find time to make both of the tasks achievable. not just say put off the fun and work only.
@ryanward19062 жыл бұрын
Deadline vs Missing information - I agree, prioritise the deadline, but also definitely make a decision as early as possible as to how important that information is. If you have a meeting, and accounts hasn't finished finalising their numbers, and 90% of your report in that meeting is analysing the numbers from the report, there's no point going to that meeting. Chase the information as best you can? that would be my answer.

True story: in 2021 Goldman Sachs reached out to me and offered to go through their interview process for the investment banking division. They asked exactly those questions “why I wanted to join”. I said honestly I have no reason, you contacted me. I ended up getting an offer within 2 weeks and turned them down cause the base salary was too low. Those banks are not that cool anymore and I guess they know it. As my finance professor says Startup Founders are the new investment bankers of the 90s :)

What do you do? I said I wouldn't say anything as long as they put the money back by the end of the day. I didn't get that summer job but I knew what to say years later when I saw it again in the hirevue interview

LOL question 14 is a trick question. It is to test if you can lie under oath, when the time comes, which it will. They prefer people without a moral compass sharing the same values with others in the company but can convince outsiders that they do. You wouldn't want someone that thinks twice about wiping out a teacher's retirement fund if the firm's profits are on the line..
