This is the most authentic version of Críost an Síol on KZbin. I feel it's best sang by a solitary male voice in a location with echo using minimal instrumentation like it does here.

I agree that this music is truly for everyone, but I have to say that if there's one way you Irish have conquered the world, it's by your music...

This song gave me wonderful chills. I close my eyes and I can see across the pond to years gone by. I think I'm born into the wrong time and culture, but this music really captured my heart. Thank you for posting it.

My mom was from Newcastle CountyDown she met my dad in Scotland in 1939 he was from the Canadain army and she was a nurse in the British Amry they fought tooth and nail to remain together and they did. Dad pass 20 ago, mom 5 years ago. Mom said my love cannot be replaced. She was my mom when I held her and gave her last kiss on her cold lips. Forever remember you mom your son Glenn.gsb ( an irsh tradtion)

Gaelic: Ag Críost an síol, ag Críost an fómhar; i n-iothlainn Dé go dtugtar sinn. Ag Críost an mhuir, ag Críost an t-iasc; i líonta Dé go gcastar sinn. Ó fhás go h-aois, is ó aois go bás, do dhá láimh, a Chríost, anall tharainn. Ó bhás go críoch, ní críoch ach athfhás, i bParthas na ngrás go rabhaimid. English translation Christ's is the seed, Christ's is the crop, in the barn of God may we be brought. Christ's is the sea, Christ's is the fish, in the nets of God may we be caught. From growth to age, from age to death, Thy two arms, O Christ, about us. From death to end, not end but growth, in blessed Paradise may we be

I think it has to do with the Celtic soul, it speaks to the most human parts of us-a powerful, heart-based culture that forms the distant foundations of the West-this is real stuff.

Celtic Christianity, as I understand it, held to its roots for a long time even after Rome Schismed in 1054. The spirit of Celtic Christianity, which has a profound respect for creation and recognizes its sanctity, is very 'Orthodox'. Because of the Celts' religious background before Christianization, I believe they grasped that concept perhaps better than any other people. For this, as an Orthodox Christian of Western decent, I'm getting acquainted with the early Celtic Saints.

Rome didn't schism... the East broke from the West. The Celtic Christians remained in communion with Rome and are decidedly Roman Catholic.

This is great to hear and to see and so relevant now as Catholic bishops in Ireland behave like the French squad at the World Cup. People have had enough and want bishops, like the great St Patrick, to put Christ and His people first and themselves last. The singing of this lovely folk song at Sunday Mass would help a lot to undo much of the harm already done. Go raibh míle maitrh agat! Thank you very much indeed!

Religion is political because people want to see politics. Anybody of any religion will get this song. Something else to mention is art. Sit back and listen. Guess how this style of singing has evolved. Its not difficult to grasp. The song is pure class. It is indeed Clonmacnoise with the shannon in the background.

Let's be more precise and say this video is about Catholic Ireland. Further, the comment saying the crosses are pre-Catholic must be substantiated. Even if it so, they have been adapted to express the True Religion. May God bless Ireland, and may St. Patrick continue to intercede for her!

Yes the faith is declining and soon there will be no religion which I think will be a problem. We are becoming too materialistic and the new cathedrals are shopping centres. I am not saying you have to be one or the other religion but I do believe you need to believe in something - mine is Christianity
