I’m glad you added brackets to those 4 links. The single tube mount was a bit concerning. I would have probably used something like 1/4 or 3/16 at least. But you have to use what you have! Great engineering

I'm glad you are ok after that near miss. Aluminum dust and mild steel dust mixed together can become thermite and ignite when an ignition source is present. However, it is also extremely common for auto makers to use magnesium for production of steering columns. The result of grinding magnesium and having a reaction similar to yours is very plausible. I would suggest testing your column to see if it's magnesium. You can put a cap full of vinegar on it and watch for results. If the vinegar does nothing, the it's aluminum. If the vinegar has a reaction by bubbling or foaming then it's probably magnesium. For just aluminum to be flammable like that, it has to have an ignition source present when it is in exactly the right concentration when airborne. I hope this helps.

So love the 4 link reinforcements. I understand how they may flex a little but they will hold the 4 link torsionally rigid. My question is. Did you leave room for the back of the bed to fit between the battery and the cab?
@ag_trucks
@ag_trucks 9 ай бұрын
Good observation, I didn't mention it in the video but the headboard will have to be bolted to the cab separate from the rest of the box since the roll cage will be going through it. That being said, the battery tray does fit right next to it👍

Those thin brackets are going to flex and provide minimal reinforcement.
@ag_trucks
@ag_trucks 9 ай бұрын
The brackets will be very strong unless you see something I'm missing? The 4 link bracket that is holding the bars will want to rotate forward under power which would induce pulling force on the reinforcement brackets I made. The brackets are very strong for pulling force but would be very weak (crumple) for pushing force if that makes sense but they are oriented in a manner that they will only see pulling forces

@@ag_trucks Magnesium is a flammable metal, obviously you’ve found out. It’s fun when fighting car fires and you get that explosion of white fire when it finally lights off. I hate the stuff. It was used for camera flashes way back in the day.
@texasedirp
@texasedirp 9 ай бұрын
@@ag_trucks Also, FYI, you can use a 9v battery and some long wire to explode that airbag that you pulled out of the steering wheel. It could be a fun addition to your video. I’ve done it countless times. Just find the + - for the airbag, wrap a wire to each long enough to be at a safe distance and just touch the wires to a 9v battery (or even a car battery). It’s a quick giggle.
