Fabi has scored 3 wins with black and has in general stayed away from any lines of his main repertoire... He had a few really good tournaments between his commentating and the Tata Steel which is also to be noted, he's gotten really solid in rapid chess for example. Given his opening choices I don't think he really cared much about the result of this tournament, just using it to try out a few lines.

@@abhishekjha4735 I said in most games. He also played a few Spanish games. But he played semi slav with black, a weird double fianchetto against anish, French against Nils, English against rapport. Just very unusual things. He lost to anish on a mistake during time trouble, lost to magnus, rapport is I think a top 10 elo now. Like he usually doesn't lose, especially not this often, but it's not that he lost to nobodies, this is one of the strongest players, and if you play an unusual opening you are taking a risk. He's had 6 decisive games in 7. It's not his normal style of play. I see no reason to suggest that he's been in bad form. He's experimenting.

Magnus's chess playing style is different from some well-known tactical masters.Slow but too solid.Squeezing his opponent as a python till the end.Unfortunately,some chess fans who like sacrifices,entertainment won't like Magnus but every grandmaster knows how strong he is. For me as a positional and defensive player,Magnus is a gem.

This might be the most impressive game I have seen from Magnus. His decision to sacrifice the rook was impressive and proves he really have a deeper understanding of the game. I have a tremendous respect for Fischer (and the other ones you name as well, to be honest) when it comes to chess, but the quality of chess has massively improved in the later years and Magnus Carlsen is now on a level that we have never before seen any humans players operate at. It is very possible that Fischer and others could have been at the same level or close to it if they had the same learningpossibilities and supercomputers available, but that is an entirely different discussion. In pure quality Magnus Carlsen is the best ever, and when it comes to merits we can only wait and see what the future brings.

That is a long stretch, even if Dubov gets back , the way Magnus is playing this tournament, it is highly unlikely that Magnus would lose.

Not only that, Mamendyarov or Rapport would HAVE to win, Dubov would HAVE to get the ok to play tomorrow, and Magnus would HAVE to lose, and even then, it still goes to tie breakers which Magnus would then also have to lose. The number of things that have to occur for Magnus to lose are all way too unlikely. Its pretty fair to say he's the winner at this point.
