Candidates Tournament, 1959 - Fischer stumbles against Tal - Fischer not quite ready for the likes of Tal at that time - losing two Kings Indians and two Sicilian defence games.
An instructive game showing both Tal's supremacy and Fischer's will to succeed. Enjoy the game
Bobby Fischer was a record-setting chess master who became the youngest player to win the U.S. Chess Championship at 14, and the first American-born player to win the World Chess Championship.
Bobby Fischer was born on March 9, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. Fischer first learned the game of chess at age 6 and eventually became the youngest international grand master at the age of 15. In 1972, he became the first American-born world chess champion after defeating Boris Spassky. An eccentric genius, who was believed to have an I.Q. of 181, Fischer became known for his controversial public remarks in his later years. He was granted Icelandic citizenship in 2005, following legal trouble with the United States. He died on January 17, 2008.
Match of the Century
During the early 1960s, Fischer continued to be involved in U.S. and world championship matches, but was also making a name for himself with his erratic, paranoid commentary. After having a 20-game winning streak in the early 1970s, Fischer once again made chess history in 1972 with his defeat of the Soviet Union's Boris Spassky at the Reykjavik, Iceland world championships, thus marking the first time an American chess player had won the title. Fischer's defeat of a Soviet opponent, which became known as the "Match of the Century," took on iconic proportions in the midst of the Cold War and was seen as a symbolic victory of democracy over Communism. Fischer's historic win also made chess a popular game in the United States.

My sentiment exactly. You' really have a nice personality, sir. I watch your channel everyday! :-) My father played chess, and he and his friends would always have this funny heckling match while playing, like: "hmmm, you seem to have improved.." (in our language, of course) even as the heckler was the one losing. Anyway, hello from the Philippines and I'm looking forward to more of your chess videos.

@@kozjevime1 POINT 1: His name is Alexander Alekhine, not Alyechin or hwatever crap you wrote. Point 2:Yes, Alekhine was probably killed by Soviet agents, but Fischer died in a hospital in Iceland, due to untreated kidney failure. Sure, you could say the Jews hated Fischer, but I doubt they were the cause of his kidney failure. Point 3: Oh please... sure Fisher's probably the best of all time, but even Fischer called Jose Raul Capablanca the most accurate player of all time. You're also ignoring Paul Morphy, who also has a case of being the best player of all time.

Im 55 Yrs Old. Reason Why I Watch This Channel, Bobby Fischer taught my Dad how to play chess one day when he came thru KC Mo. in early 70's, ended up in same rm in hospital as my Dad. My Dad came home bragging the the world champion taught him & accidently lost to my Dad teaching him how to play, & Dad taught me, at 12 yrs old, I Honor me & Dad relationship & Appreciate him teaching me how play Chess & have a appreciation of him running into B. Fischer. So because you show his games I thought I listen to how to be a better player & Learn more about Fischer. Dad died in 1989 & I think about him almost everyday... Thanks

I'm still unsure what exactly a rook lift is. And two months ago, I had no idea who many of these giants were before watching so many of your videos. I think I'd only heard of Kasparov, Fischer, and Carlsen. I've learned so much from your channel. Keep it up. I'm a 75-year-old American male subscriber and I love your videos and commentary. I particularly like your humorous comments such as when you noted in one of Morphy's games that there was a complicated, but effective, escape move for his opponent to get out of an essentially lost mid-game position. After your suggested pause to find it, you said if we said we found the move you would not believe it as people who see such things do not watch your videos. Yup. About right, unless King Carlsen has become a regular viewer.

One of the things I really like about your videos is your OUTSTANDING English. You have excellent command of vocabulary, grammar, and even idiomatic expressions. Also, your accent is quite pleasant to listen to.

I went to your Bobby Fischer playlist, and the little red bar at the bottom of each video shows me I've seen all of them except two. Guess what I'm doing later tonight, and it ain't watching "The Bachelor".

To be fair to Fischer he was only 16yo when he played in this T. Tal only ever beat the 16yo Fischer. Otherwise Fischer on and drew every other game he played with Tal including Hergeg Nova Blitz (1970) ps note that Kasparov did not play in an Interzonal until aged 18, and Karpov was already in his early 20's . Fischer was playing multiple games against the world's best.

Tal said of his 4 wins over Fischer in this tournament "Tal was already Tal but Fischer was not yet Fischer". Tal was still humble in victory. A beautiful man.

Hi Antonio, can you explain why you chose to cover the 1959 candidates so thoroughly? Besides the fact that very great players attended there, is there something else special about this tournament? Maybe I missed it in one of the other videos about the 1959 candidates. I'm 25 FYI and completely not a chess player, but when I randomly started watching a video of yours, I couldn't stop. Even though I barely know how to play this game I've seen allmost all your videos :p
