i don't know if it's just me, but antonio seems to be more excited and explained alot more when he covers older games, especially Tal ones. i love antonio's videos but i miss videos like this when he will tell you intricate stories whether it's about when was the first time the players play eachother, or how they met each other or what the player was thinking when he plays this weird moves that aren't recomended by the engine, or what the player's favourite food, literally every single detail that makes a single chess game seems like a journey. that's just what makes him different, and much more enjoyable than most ches youtubers out there.

In his defence, I'd say he has had more time to prepare and read up about the older games, plus he has the benefit of hindsight....With Antonio now knocking out games the same day they're played (an effect of his fantastic channel), he has very little time to go into the backstory or other lines on games.
@Noelito403 жыл бұрын
That's his skill, he has a wonderful way of "storyifing" the games. That's why I like his channel, the game is the story, not him. I tried watching some other chess channels, but there's too much ego in the presenters. It is Antonio's relative weakness at chess that makes his delivery and channel so good, he doesn't make it about him, he doesn't criticise the moves or say what he would have done in the situation.

i think Tal was inviting Spassky to play B-C6 and fork the queen and rook, after exchanging the white queen for the Bishop, then exchange the rooks at f6, Tal can advance the pawn to queening, then Spassky has to sacrifice the black queen and we end in Rook vs Bishop game. but Spassky moved his queen to e5 and didn't fall for Tal's trap
@wunknownbeatbox79803 жыл бұрын
I came to a similar conclusion, but what you said doesn't work I believe because black doesn't have to sac back the queen. The bishop on f6 covers the queening square. If Bc6 you can play Rxf7 and blacks queen is overworked and can't defend the bishop after recapturing the rook

At 12:03 Rb7 is a trick to win black's light square bishop. If black were to play Bc6 with a double attack on the rook and the queen, white plays rook takes rook with check. Once the queen recaptures the rook on f7, white simply grabs the unguarded bishop on c6. Feel free to add further explanations or correct me if I'm wrong.

12:35 in my opinion, Rb7 was probably protecting the b5 square in advance, since if the rook stayed on c7, the pawn cannot be pushed to b5 in the future since you just lose it to Bxb5, guarded by the queen, and the queen also guards the rook on f7 so Qxf7 with white would not work anymore. Rb7 also prevents black from playing Bb5, blocking the pawn if it was ever going to get pushed to b4.
@ChesswithSuyashinMarathi3 жыл бұрын
12:43 Rb7 move was just to tempt Spassky to move bishop to C6.... so Tal could have captured rook on f7 with his rook.. so rb7 - bc6 rb7 x rf7 - qxf7 qxc6 and if king moves after white takes rook then Tal even had the option of pawn push, so even if bishop takes queen then pawn takes black queen and promotes to queen so rb7 - bc6 rb7 x rf7 - kh6/kh8 d7 and after d7 almost every variation is in white's favor
@tomashulla45493 жыл бұрын
12:40 I believe that Tal played Rb7 for 2 reasons: 1. He doesn't want Bd8 to come with a tempo on the rook 2. Qb8 would hit both of the passed pawns after the rook moves which is annoying That's why Spassky moved his bishop to f6, so that he could play Bd8 followed by Qb8. Sure, you could play Rb7 after Bd8, but if you're gonna have to play it, why not do it a move sooner so that it doesn't come with tempo?

I think Tal played rook to b7 to trick Spassky into playing bishop to c6 thinking that the rook and queen are forked, but then rook takes on f7 immediately wins for white as the black king cannot take as white queen is guarding it, and if black queen takes, then white queen takes c6 and white is up the exchange. If the black king moves, then there are a few options that white has and I think Tal would be winning from there on out. Tal might have not wanted to deal with the bishop pair and tried to bait Spassky with a few tricks.
