I know absolutely nothing about chess, but I love just playing with no knowledge of openings and watching your awesome breakdowns on what minds like magnus are thinking and playing on the board. It's like watching my favourite musicians play. Doesn't take much knowledge to appreciate how great their minds are. Thanks for uploading, and I will always be watching for more awe inspiring content. Legend ✌️

You have to admire Magnus for being willing to play in a tournament like this. After all, given how much lower rated his opponents are there is lots of downside to him and very little upside as he has to win pretty much all of his games NOT to lose points.

Very resourceful play from Carlsen. I also realise from this game and other game examples that a protected passed pawn on the 7th rank (or 2nd rank if its a black pawn) is worth about 6 pawns. So in evaluating a position, this observation can be a useful guide.
@jjukjkjiok7782
@jjukjkjiok7782 Жыл бұрын
I would say it depends. Like white had a protected pawn on rank 7 and the knight sacrificed itself for it, so in that case it was worth about 3 pawns

@wolfspain7385
@wolfspain7385 Жыл бұрын
Kg2 gets out of check and protects the rook. If the queen takes the pawn on a4 then you can't stop checks from the white queen. Qb8+, Kg6, Qe5+, if King goes to f8 then Qh8 forces the king from behind the pawns leading to a check from the rook on e3. Anywhere the king goes, he is getting hunted down, all for the prices of a pawn when he is already in a losing position.

I think it is silly to say that it is hard for Carlsen to not lose rating when playing these lower rated players. After two games, Carlsen had a draw an a win, his live rating had gone up. It was less than one point but it was still up. even though both players were significantly lower rated. Carlsen should be getting wins nearly every game, if not then the rating drop is justified and reflects his real rating very well.
