In fairness he is correct (albeit being very metaphorically loud about it) 5:22 blacks best defence is Kg8 here. This gets out of reach of the discovery. Nf5 can be met with Rxf5 and Nf3 can be met with Rf6 and whites queen can't take the pawn on g7. Black is therefore winning by his material advantage. Furthermore, when Qxg7+ is played, Qh8# is slightly faster.

Others have pointed out that the long checkmate is unnecessary, but I'd like to point out that black is winning after Rh8+ (5:05 in the video). Black doesn't have to make an escape square for the king immediately because of the two tempi white's move order gives him. After Rh8+ Kxh8, Qh2+ Bh4+, Nxh4 black can use the tempo to move Kg8. Now if white persists in playing Nf5, Rxf5 clears the escape square for the king. Black will be losing the exchange, but he started with such huge odds that it makes no difference. Rf8 is a bad move, but it's bad because of Rh7 with a threat of doubling on the h-file with Qh2. The only move black has to stop this plan is giving up material with Bh4+. After Nxe4, black does have to move the rook to clear an escape square. If he moves Re8, then Qe2 renews the threat of doubling on the h-file, this time with Qh5. If Rf6, then Qh2 is winning. Black's best move is to start retreating the king with Kf8, but then Rh8+ wins the queen.
@Nullifidian5 жыл бұрын
