@Flaze07, While not a possessor of vast knowledge. They idea about sacrificing is that you gain something in exchange which is the whole point behind a good chess players sacrifice. That is why it is called a sacrifice and not losing a piece. Losing a piece is your piece getting captured because you blundered. A sacrifice is you giving a peace in exchange for something important. Usually activity or a mate or whatever is appropriate at the time.

That's the so-called hippo defense :) I've played against it myself a few times, and it seems almost impossible to break through! I lost the games where I tried it out myself though, as it's not all that easy to play it well. It's a very fun opening nonetheless! One of the few openings where both players are just developing and not capturing!

Whenever I play a game, I always set up my knights facing in opposite directions. The reason I do this is because, at the end of a game, when perhaps only a single knight is left standing, I know from which square he set off on his journey. Call me a romantic old fool. That's OK. I'll never stop doing this. >

@Bodragon
@Bodragon 4 жыл бұрын
@@ಭಾರತೀಯ_ನಾಗರಿಕ Well, when I got the promoted knight, which let's face it, is a one in a thousand promotion, which way it would face, (left or right), would be decided on the colour of the square on which the pawn gained promotion to the knight. If that square was white, then I would face my new knight to the right. If the square was black, then the left. I hope this clears up any confusion. Cheers! >

LOL, I love the Hippo so much! Glad to see it can play the human element even with very strong players. It's very easy to blunder against the Hippo, and it's a position that pays very little attention to the opponents opening moves. You have to watch for a very small number of attacking ideas, and your opening lines change very little. Super easy to play and not so easy to play against, though in theory play it's a position that plays for a draw (not always a bad idea as black).

I've seen comments suggesting that at 11:09, black should attempt to fork the white queen by placing his knight on c2, but this would be a mistake, because of Rook to b1. However, I think this would make a barnburner of an ending and would make for a great game. I'm a poor player, but I would love to play white against somebody in this position. In fact, I would enjoy playing a number of variations of this ending. Such a great game, maybe my favorite, thank you for posting and for your expert commentary.

An interesting move could be when Rashid pushed his pawn for a new queen, instead of capturing knight at a6 he should've captured knight on e5 with his rook and that too with a check. Then simply capture the bishop with a check and then the knight at a6.

Whoa! We're getting into the realms of so-called fairy chess, the term used for those varieties of chess where the properties of pieces are very different. This was really 'through the looking glass' chess.

First a crazy photo challenge as I don't think there are too many people outside who don't know those two guys, then a really crazy game of chess, rather an epic battle, which Rashid lost unfortunately. But it was really very entertaining, indeed!

After watching this series I'm not sure I'd sign the petition to give Nezhmetdinov the GM title... in these games a lot of things get overlooked that I feel like most GMs wouldn't miss

Wow! Sly Stallone & Mr. T. playing chess?!? Nice. ;D I have to say that I actually agree with Mr. Nezhmetdinov's decision on move 45. Ne6 *_is_* better than Nd7, *_if_* you want to keep the Black Queen on the opposite side of the board from her King! His move uses Black's own Knights as blockers against their own team! Both players missed chances, but that's true of every game whether we know it or not! A very interesting battle, with passed pawns in 3 of 4 quadrants of the board! Thanks again. Rikki Tikki.
