On top of that, he didn't board in thought erasure, which was his best possible answer to trostani. seth the reason why it didnt go to exile was because it was cast from hand. the maximize velocity would have been exiled no matter what even if it resolved if it was cast from jumpstart, but it was cast from hand so that doesnt matter. with jumpstart and flashback on mtgo it tells you that the card was “cast with flashback” or other

I was scrolling through standard legal cards the other day and had the thought that it might actually be pretty insane against some of the decks in this meta. I was thinking about it more as a SB card for g/b. Honestly this deck incorporates a lot of cards I've thought are underexplored: thief of sanity, dead man's chest, and hostage taker. Especially hostage taker. Why isn't anyone playing that card?

The 1990s version of this deck, with Control Magic, Control Artifact, Confiscate, and Treachery, is a very powerful kitchen table deck. I also had 1x Legacy's Allure, 1x Old Man of the Sea, 1x Rootwater Matriarch, 4 Ray of Command, and if your opponent refuses to play, Keiga the Tide Star for the win-con. See I absolutely love decks like this because plain standard meta kind of gets boring after awhile so I like janky type builds to break up the monotony of mono red or izzet etc ... I constantly see negative comments when you do this and it makes me wonder how I am so different of a MTG player than most because I want to run Decks that are the complete opposite of what everyone else is running .. even if I rarely win... Thank you for this deck idea. I just built it and I'm having fun playing it and it doesn't lose as often as I thought it would. Keep doing great things Seth!!

(Around 25:00) Trostani in this match up makes me think a lot of the early sets colour hosers, where a card was somewhere between 2 and 4 mana and basically said "if your opponent is playing this deck, they (just about) just lose". Trostani seems a lot like that in this match up.

In theory milling the opponent isn't great, but we are a Mnemonic Betrayal deck, so putting cards in the opponent's graveyard is important.

There was a point vs elves (I think it was game 2) where I think you should have played patient rebuilding. You won anyway so it's no big deal but they ended the game with 7 cards in Library, so you definitely could have just milled them out. I can see how it was more fun to just Hostage Taker their lords, though :)

I wanted to see if the Omniscience guy had any other win conditions other than Nezahal. Pretty sure you could try chumping Nezahal for a few turns (you had the thief as card engine). With a lot of luck maybe even milling the opponent?
