Splattercat! Dude! You have a basic production for CROPS, Provisions and something else in a MAKESHIFT CAMP. It's so funny how we can miss some basic things after we haven't played for a while. Normally building trade post and makeshift ASAP is a way to start almost any run.

I can't stop playing this game!!! It's the perfect Settlers game I've always wanted, without the lame battle mechanics Ubisoft keep changing every game and with amazing QoL mechanics that the developers always tweak and improve. The AI is already fantastic.

@@ImaITman There's constant threat, the forest itself hates you. The more people you have, the more active woodcutters, the more time passed, the more glades you open - the more hostile the forest. Hostility level is critical because all the bad modifiers take effect during the storm and are triggered by that level. Opening the dangerous or forbidden glades triggers events that can be devastating if you are not prepared, from straight up killing some of your pop, to destroying your food supplies, etc. No food means your pop gets extremely angry and they leave. Modifiers that lowers the pop's resolve means that if you can't find a way to up it fast they leave. If you can't actually score reputation points by the time the queen's impatience rises, you straight up lose. there's plenty of threat!

@@ImaITman no battling that we used to, but it challenges you in another way with its 20 levels of difficulty. the first impression that is a cozy 'grow your village' game is a trap. after 30 hours it feels like unforgiving deckbuilding roguelite. after 300 hours its easy and cozy again though

This easily made it into my favourite games after playing it for awhile. most base/city builders get stale quick, once you've built most buildings you need and all production chains are going you're pretty much always done. This game remedies that by having you do 'runs' and unlocking more and more bonuses, buildings and such. Picking what 'missions' to do during a run is also very satisfying instead of just having a linear path, and it along with what resources you've found dictates what production chains you want to build. It's such a clever blend of genres that I never thought would work. But somehow comes out as the best game I've played in a long while :o

You were bee-lining towards copper bar production but the royal woodlands never has copper ore deposits. There are a bunch of ways to check what resources are on a map 1. on the embarkation menu, the modifiers tab 2. when playing press escape, map resources show on left 3. On the blueprint selection window, a button on the left shows a tooltip with available resources so you can check when picking blueprints If you're a new player not sure of all the buildings and production chain this is the best way to decide on blueprints.

I bought this game a few months back and I have to say they've been steady working on it so the Devs are very active. I'm going to wait a few more months before diving as by then there should be more than enough content to make it worth my time to play. Back in my day the caches could only be opened with tools, there was only 1 trade option per destination, rain was something you tolerated (never useful) and no foxes. Time to rediscover this game I think. Thanks Splat

I really like the fact that they made a lot of sidegrades in the production chain. Most games just do direct upgrades - and it's too easy to see it as just numbers at that point, to kinda stop caring about what is actually going on.

When I was a kid Activision were the good guys. Comprised of programmers that broke away from the previous incarnations of Softwarehouses to form a company that made great products while still taking care of their employees. In the fullness of time they were corrupted into the enemy of gamer fans and then had to watch them murder Blizzard as well.

There's is an incredible book called The Fifth Season (beginning of a trilogy that is equally incredible) and I just made the connection that they might be taking inspiration from it for Against the Storm! In it, there's an inevitable 'Fifth season' that occurs in a erratic cyclical manner in which the plant experiences a geological apocalypse (earthquakes and geological instability are also rampant, but there are people who can help control/prevent those events that are at the center of the story.) And in it there is also a singular culture that has been able to weather the season and is essentially the world power because of it. Can't recommend the book enough.

Love this game, great way to integrate roguelite and meta progression into a settlement building game. I do wish there was a way to make a permanent settlement (would be a reason to actually use decorations and make the place look nice) but that's a minor thing.

Already is a reason. Adding the decor increases the level of the Hearth and it's benefits.

@@rwme4698 I meant to use them for the purpose of decoration, if a settlement being around for a long time and worth putting time into beautifying. In its current state decorations for hearth upgrades usually get exiled to the edges of the settlement because they are not involved in any production related things and the settlement will be gone forever after about 30 minutes.

​@Jasta85 You can actually invest more and more into a settlement, as upgrade resources can be bought and found via trade and exploration. Of course, trades are rare, and you only have so many glades, but the more dangerous the glade and difficulty of the settlement, the more- and more likely, you will find of them.

got this a while ago. Still play it, since it's really well made in gameplay decisions that do reward trying new strats and actually being hard when you mess up. Since you have little input which buildings you are going to get each run you do have to adjust on the fly strategy wise, especially since the biomes also pull you a different way.

I'm up to Prestige 17 and haven't ever used consumption control. I only play when-ever there is an update now, but always look forward to it! Great game.

If you start with high resolve races, try starving everyone for 1-2 cycles at the start of drizzle. You can essentially save 8-10 food/starvation cycle, making early game food a lot easier. Just don't starve harpies.

Correction Splat, Scout's pack perk only increases carrying capacity for workers assigned to glade events, not universal carrying capacity, there are other ways to get that.

I had this game in EA, and while I liked it, I found the world map loop unrewarding and the missions became dull quite quickly. You only need to get a fair bit of population going, then chop into a dangerous glade, not care what it does to you, immediately assign workers to solve it asap, and move on to the next one. Blight is basically fire and firefighters. Oddly I like the game but I can't play it anymore as it feels solved to me and my decisions really don't matter.

It sounds like you never touched Prestige difficulties. I'm working on them right now, and mein gott in himmel do they change the game massively. It's only a little at a time, but they add up. Also, the mechanics regarding stuff like Blight and Glade Events have recently undergone some significant changes to make them less repetitive and more engaging.

The main problem with this game is that progression is excruciatingly slow. Very little meta progression resources is awarded even at higher difficulties. And the meta progression nodes you unlock themselves are mostly just tiny bonuses (+2% less impatience buildup for example) besides the bigger nodes spread out in the tree. So I had a ton of fun for a while but once I had pretty much solved the gameplay loop it became kinda boring because of how slow progression is (you'd probably need to play several hundred games to get to the end nodes). And due to a lack of an AI opponent there is nothing to overcome besides survival. It is like a dozen patches since I played though, so dunno how much things changed since then. Game progression doesnt seem to be bound to your account on Epic, but rather local save files. So when I lost my HD I kinda lost interest in going back to the game.
