Amazing how you’ve made the painting so much better than the photo. It just jumps out at you. My wife and I visited your studio in Jerome in 2014 and purchased a couple of your metal artworks of the Grand Canyon which still hang in our hallway to this very day. We’ve been fans ever since and it’s a pleasure to now see you on You Tube.

Thank you so much! Redesigning what nature presents into something I see, that is perhaps more dynamic is part of what keeps my love alive for painting. Of course, sometimes nature is so incredible that I cannot improve on it, but I'm always trying.

Its a beautiful painting. It has inspired me to paint it. I am trying to follow you and reproduce it. I do not know how mush success I could achieve. I love to paint canyons. Can I send it to you on completion?

I recently tried sketching out in charcoal before painting in oils and it turned into a dark mess from the charcoal. Last time I do that. I think I prefer just sketching out with a burnt sienna or something else to lay out composition.

You saw in the video how I do it, and have done it hundreds of times. Perhaps you were too heavy handed or were shading with the charcoal. If you use a light touch it really should not be a problem. Let me know if I can be of further help.

Also, if you have not prepared the canvas properly to start, that may add to your difficulties. check out my video on canvas prep > kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4GzaqmOpNlniNk
