I wonder if the new guy could be Simon of Cyrene who was a black man because this actor looks like a big strong dude. They might have him here in season 5 to set up his story line before he shows up in season 6 to help Jesus carry the cross.

Simon of Cyrene was not black. Maybe olive skinned. Cyrene was a roman colony and Simon's son Rufus and Alexander were most likely Roman citizens . They are greeted by Paul in the letter to the Roman church.

The show portrays many black people but just to be inclusive and diverse. In reality there were not too many people from Africa in 1st century Israel.at the most from Libya and north Africa. People with very dark skin were like Asians in Texas very rare to see in the streets.

Wonder why traditional portrayal of Jesus in movies with tunic and cloak really got it right in clothing. Jesus with short tunic like a slave isn't accurate.
