The immortals kept the exact same number of them fighting at all times. If one would die they would quickly pull them off of the battlefield, and replace them with another soldier. Because their numbers never dwindled, they got the name the immortals.

yes but the thespians were slaves and they surrendered the first chance they got and the Arcadians never fought until the battle the Spartans lost because Leonidas didn't want Xeroxes to see the reinforcements until absolutely necessary so he would keep his eyes all on the 300. It should actually be 1,300. True, there where only 300 Spartans at the battle, but they had assistance from 1000 other Greek soldiers, another fun fact, the Spartans knew that they could be surrounded from the back, there where actually soldiers to protect that area, but they ended up leaving, and Leonidas was actually killed pretty early in the battle, a huge part of the battle was the Spartans protecting his dead body

God, I HATE being a picky ass history goob, but the battle of Thermopylae was fought between 250,000 persians and 7,000 greeks. 300 spartans, 1,000 athenians, and the rest were their slaves. They had barely any casualties the first two days until they were betrayed and surrounded on the third day. The 300 spartans told everyone else to leave and return to Greece to prepare for battle. It was an act of total sacrifice. They were suppose to lose. I absolutely love your simulation, and thank you for the time you took to show us. All respect to you. I just get picky when it comes to history, lmao.

Of course the myth and the reality of the Battle of Thermopylae and the legend of the 300 are really different. One main point was that on the Greek side it was a coalition of city states led by Sparta and Athens. Another one was the numbers of soldiers in the battle. You need to do it without the Spartans advancing. The reason they lasted so long was because they used the Hot Gates as a bottleneck to control the numbers they fought against. It was a tactic. They held their ground, they didn't push forward. I'll bet they could get down to the last several 100 Persians if you have them hold their ground and not push. Try it

This pissed me off so much because the Spartans also had help from 1,000 other Greeks, and the Spartan armour was so good that Persian arrows would shatter upon impact, also the Persian's armour was not chainmail and plates, it was cloth and thin wood that the Spartans would shred through like butter.

Actually the battle of THermopylae was fought by a coalition of Greeks including the Thespiae and Thebes. The Spartans did very little in that battle - go check it out. However to cement the fractured Greek nations against Persia, martyrs were needed. And it worked.

wow you got the story all wrong the Persians came to attack Athens so Athens and Sparta teamed up to defend against them with Athens fighting with their navy and spartan with only 300 soldiers. they only gave Athens 300 because they kept the rest in case the Persians also come after Sparta. The reason the Spartans could hold the Persians off for so long is because the battle was on a narrow cliff. the Spartans lost because they got betrayed by a greek city state and flanked which broke their line of defense and the rest was total destruction.

Thanks for this, people think they know how the battle played out because they were fed false (or misinterpreted) information about the Athenians being there to help the Spartans. If you read a university history text book (rather than something from an unreliable website or KZbin video), Athens and Sparta did indeed ally, but the Athenians were not at that battle with them. They were, as you said, focused on taking out the Persian Navy while the Spartans bought time and distracted Xerxes.

The thing I find funny is that the Greek soldiers had metal weapons and armor, while the Persians had STRAW. The Persians were able to get so large because the out numbered and out flanked. you can't do that while surrounded by impassible mountains and unforgiving seas. If the Spartans didn't tell everyone else to leave and the force protecting the pass didn't ditch them, they would have won. Also the immortals are called immortals because as soon as one is killed another takes its place.
