The Dream Journey - Discovering musicians across Pakistan (A Non Profit Project)
A film about an exhilarating journey of five friends with a shared passion for discovering and recording musicians in their living environments across Pakistan.
The sessions of vocal music recorded and filmed cover several musical forms in the Indo Pakistani tradition; Thumri, Kaafi, Ghazal, Qawwali and Khyaal. The kalaams that the musicians drew from ranged the whole spectrum of great poets: Khusrau, Jalal ud din Rumi, Kabir, Baba Bulleh Shah, Waris Shah, Iqbal, Faiz and numerous mystic poets of India and Pakistan. The performances evoked memories of the verdant lushness of the Punjab, the haunting mysticism of the Great Rajputana and Sind Deserts, the vibrancy of Hazrat Nizamuddin’s Delhi, the great aura of Ajmer, the majestic beauty of the Indo-Gangetic plain.
Some of the musicians are established and famous, others are amongst the brilliant budding talent that adorns Pakistan’s musical scene. Each of the mehfils has a distinct atmosphere and mood, but there is a common thread. We asked each of the musicians to stay close to their respective inherited musical traditions, allowing the singers an opportunity to present some pieces that are rarely heard today.
We are inspired to present the brilliance of this contemporary Pakistani vocal music to a wider audience.

So I've been browsing your channel a lot these past monthes, probably because I don't feel so good and it's the only music that brings me comfort (and the quality of both recordings and videos is just so good) , and while I enjoyed each and every group you presented (particularly the playfulness and passion of Fareed Ayaz and Ustad Amir Ali Khan) I feel like Maulvi Haider Hassan (R.I.P🙏) , presented the most powerful texts/poetries regarding spiritual love and freedom; his voice sounds to my ear like a voice of revolt against dogmas and of love of the divine; at least to my western understanding, he was a spiritual warrior..thanks for giving us all the ability to hear such jewels

I have got this from his deewan www.scribd.com/document/34913846/Deewn-e-Shah-Bu-Ali-Qalandar, apparently almost all the verses not those Qawwals are saying, in fact I tried to listen some old Qawwals also but what I understand over the the period of time the verses got changed or modified intentionally or unintentionally, you can refer this link to read it in full. Secondly, from that deewan it is more like a romantic Ghazal rather than Sufi Kalam that may have caused for modification. Wallahalam

I love this piece... absolutely beautiful.. and when the music dissolves the poetry into it an entirely new dimension of feelings and thoughts evokes in my inner-self... listening to it regularly for last 3-4years.....only annoying thing is the singer in white kurta sitting to the right of Maulvi Haider Hassan Vehranwale, he just breaks the tempo in between in order to grab some singing for himself...

I have attached roman script with my translation. agar bīnam shabe nāgāh aañ sultān-e-ḳhubāñ rā sar andar pā-e-ū aaram fidā sāzam dil-o-jāñ rā (Agar kisi raat main usse dekh lu jo khubsurato me sab se khubsurat hai toh main uske pairo par apna sar rakh du aur uspar apne dil aur jaan dono nichaawar kar du) ba-gird-e-ka.aba che gardam chū rū-e-yār-e-man ka.aba kunam tavvāf-e-mai-ḳhāna ba-bosam pā-e-mastāñ rā (Kaabe ka chakkar kyu lagaaun, mere liye mere yaar ki surat hi kaaba hai Main sharaab-khane ka chakkar lagaunga aur nashe me jo mast hain unke pairon ko chuum lunga) ravam dar but-kada shainam ba-pesh-e-but kunam sajda agar yābam ḳharīdāre farosham dīn-o-īmāñ rā (Main mandir me jaunga aur buton ke aage sar jhukaunga Aur agar mujhe koi khareedaar mile toh apne deen aur iiman dono bech dun)
