Always exciting to watch someone cut slabs or tumble stones. I don't understand people that do the thumbs down?? If there is something you OBJECT to I get it. But if you're just not into what someone is doing just move along. It's not your thing. No harm, no foul. What a crazy world! :)

Haters gonna hate lol I typically get at least 3 to 5 thumbs down on each video...so when I only get a couple dislikes, like on this video, now im all worried about my haters and hoping they're okay! My one video where we announced our pregnancy got like 6 or 7 thumbs down lol I was like alrighty then 👌 I honestly don't care, people don't realize they're giving my channel activity and it helps my channel 😄

Love your channel. I live just north of Duluth and have 3 boys. My middle child, who just turned 6, is crazy into agates. He has sparked my own interest into agate hunting. He got a vintage rock tumbler kit from 1970 that his great aunt gave him for his birthday. I got the thing running and have just started tumbling some of the agates that we've found. I think what your doing and putting out there is great. Keep it up! We live near a gravel pit that seems to be untapped by hunters and has proven to be a great agate spot. Looking forward to what else you have in store.

Agate Dad I’m thinking of uploading me fossil hunting on this channel, because as you know filming me agate hunting was not working out due to the fact that it’s usually windy in fields, and the places that I fossil hunt are not, I usually go about once a month and find pretty good things, I will show the pictures of agates I do find and I also go crystal hunting some times too, so hope to upload next weekend or so

I can not wait untill you start polishing. I started polishing rocks 2 months ago with a drill and diamond polishing pads. I already made several necklaces. The best thing is to practise with a piece of fluorite or calcite becaus it is so soft. It only does not polish that good. Nice video by the way.

Nice improvement on the music. I figured that was you before I saw you playing near the end. Most people cut slabs 1/4 inch thick. That’s the standard width, although sometimes they’re cut a little thicker or thinner, depending on the material and what you’re doing with it. If you’re just going to polish it as a specimen, it can be any thickness you want, but if you think you might want to make something into a cabochon for a pendant in the future, you might want to aim for a thinner slab. I have rock similar to what you were cutting today, but with a little larger goodies inside. I have to get that sliced up one of these days.
@AgateDad
@AgateDad 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah i figured someone with a trim saw might be able to make two slabs out of those bad boys, enough room to play! Im so new to all this stuff though so really its all just for fun right now. I would love to see what you're talking about!

Hey Hon, I am still in the dreaming stages of where a saw could even fit in my life, but it seems as though the other hounders I've watched have a constant water flow on the saw. I thought it was to keep the saw cool, but maybe it's to keep that dirt and silica down. I poked at Rookie for his chilling dive on a video and baited him for a Superior Dive. Here laughed big time. Maybe we'll have to tell him that's what real Minnesotans do! 🤣😂🤣😂 Sometimes you just have to poke the bear! Many blessings~

Are you use the stock blade that came with the tile saw? Or maybe switch out to something a little thinner?

Wish I could send you a picture of what I found! It's really interesting with black crystal formations on one side and brown ones on these other. With some fantastic stripes and a criss cross.. all on the same rock! Want to cut it but not entirely where to make that cut.. (or of I want to) lol!

I have the exact same tile saw, you can push it to a 7.5" blade and go much thinner then the one included, you won't waste as much material.

Can you use a tile saw instead of the expensive rock saw for certain rock? Or would it work on all rocks?

Use the guide on the table saw. Keep water on the blade, even if it's a triangle. Raise the blade for taller ones. But always use the guide, that way you can cut a straight line and thinner.

Interesting material, but can you polish it? The thompsonite rich pebbles can be nice, but basalt is kinda hopeless, unless you lacquer or epoxy coat it.

We have something very similar in the eastern part of the state. I'm not sure exactly what they are, but we call them galaxy stones or Hubble stones too. They look so much like the Hubble Deep Field picture. If you ever find out what they are, PLEASE mention the name on a video.

@@AgateDad Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant to say the eastern part of Texas. Ours have more of a dark tan matrix - not nearly as nice as yours, but they have the multi-colored inclusions. I live in the north part of Texas, and the only things we have in abundance are fossils. Really big ones. You are extremely lucky in the sheer number of different kinds of rocks, minerals, and fossils.

@@AgateDad Gotta get yourself a loupe. That would have let you see the cubic nature of the fluorite, compared to the hexagonal nature of amethyst. I find 10x works just as well as the 40x I have. And the lights on the more expansive ones are a waste of money, since the lights break after a couple months of carrying the thing around.
