Always exciting to watch someone cut slabs or tumble stones. I don't understand people that do the thumbs down?? If there is something you OBJECT to I get it. But if you're just not into what someone is doing just move along. It's not your thing. No harm, no foul. What a crazy world! :)

Love your channel. I live just north of Duluth and have 3 boys. My middle child, who just turned 6, is crazy into agates. He has sparked my own interest into agate hunting. He got a vintage rock tumbler kit from 1970 that his great aunt gave him for his birthday. I got the thing running and have just started tumbling some of the agates that we've found. I think what your doing and putting out there is great. Keep it up! We live near a gravel pit that seems to be untapped by hunters and has proven to be a great agate spot. Looking forward to what else you have in store.

Agate Dad I’m thinking of uploading me fossil hunting on this channel, because as you know filming me agate hunting was not working out due to the fact that it’s usually windy in fields, and the places that I fossil hunt are not, I usually go about once a month and find pretty good things, I will show the pictures of agates I do find and I also go crystal hunting some times too, so hope to upload next weekend or so

Nice improvement on the music. I figured that was you before I saw you playing near the end. Most people cut slabs 1/4 inch thick. That’s the standard width, although sometimes they’re cut a little thicker or thinner, depending on the material and what you’re doing with it. If you’re just going to polish it as a specimen, it can be any thickness you want, but if you think you might want to make something into a cabochon for a pendant in the future, you might want to aim for a thinner slab. I have rock similar to what you were cutting today, but with a little larger goodies inside. I have to get that sliced up one of these days.
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
Yeah i figured someone with a trim saw might be able to make two slabs out of those bad boys, enough room to play! Im so new to all this stuff though so really its all just for fun right now. I would love to see what you're talking about!

Hey Hon, I am still in the dreaming stages of where a saw could even fit in my life, but it seems as though the other hounders I've watched have a constant water flow on the saw. @@AgateDad Gotta get yourself a loupe. That would have let you see the cubic nature of the fluorite, compared to the hexagonal nature of amethyst. I find 10x works just as well as the 40x I have. And the lights on the more expansive ones are a waste of money, since the lights break after a couple months of carrying the thing around.

I'll definitely look into it! You're so wise...like a taller...canadian Yoda.. 😉 10x loupe you need 🤓

I’m planning on another cutting video of them bad boys soon, I have a big saw now so going to get pretty wild hahah
@7rays4 жыл бұрын
I never get any dust in my face using any of my saws… Oh wait, I push the material I’m sawing away from me instead of pulling it towards me, and I don’t do it outside when it’s windy.
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
Yeah i haven't had it do that before this time, strange stuff. Am the wind really plays a factor in the misting of its spray.

What will you do with these rocks ?
@AgateDad4 жыл бұрын
eventually cut them probably into thinner slabs, maybe make cabochons out of them or display pieces.
