We are planning a trip to South Dakota this summer 2024. Could you suggest a general area to hunt for agates, we don’t want you to give away your prime spots, just point us in the right direction. With the amount of success you have i image you have all kinds of people asking the same thing! Best regards, keep those great videos coming! Greg and Debbie

Howdy and thanks for tuning in! I’m glad to hear y’all enjoy my videos. I’m down in arizona for winter chasin the gold and I’m missing them agates! As for spots to go, I will say I’m a big fan of the Fairburn area around the French Creek Campground. The agate beds behind the camp get hit often, but nice agates still get found there. Biggest tip, do some hiking and follow the rock. There is more out there than people think. Sometimes it just takes an exploration hike to find a new rock patch. I’m also a fan of Indian Creek area, lots and lots of creek to search, as well as up in the bluffs, where the rocks in the creek originally came from. Conata basin can be a beautiful escape and easy flat walking, but you don’t wanna be out there when it’s too hot. Generally, mid summer can be a tough time to hunt for them as temps get up high out on the grasslands and there ain’t much for shade. If you are on Facebook, check out the fairburn agate groups on there. Lots of good info on areas can be found, and there are a few folks who also do guided trips. In any event, best luck to y’all! Keep me posted when you’re running through and I just might be in the area.

While I like the instant gratification of the "as found" videos, I'd have to say the longer hunting videos are better. If I'm watching it's because I'm not out hunting, so I'm here to get a little bit of the thrill of the hunt to satisfy the cravings! LOL! By the way, some beautiful finds on this one. I'd like to say I can make the show in June, but more than likely I may not get up that way until a bit later in the summer. But when I do. I'll drop you a line, it would be great to meet up and say hi!

Do you ever dig for them
@waywardwoodward4 ай бұрын
@@cookimozdziock8146 nope. The laws for rock hunting these areas are surface collect only. More so, they were randomly added by nature to the gravels millions of years ago, so it would be impossible to know where to dig to land one. It’s also super tough digging and lots of the rocks come out too dirty to see what they are without a proper scrubbing. I’ve always just found it easier to walk around and let Mother Nature erode them out. Thanks for watching! Best luck out there!
