Rio was never a witch. And never In the coven. Billy is the Black Heart. But because of the sigil placed on him by Lilia, his identity was hidden, so he was represented on the Coven list by a black heart.

​@screensanctum well she still says she's the green witch. My favorite theory is she is the first green witch and she made a deal with mephisto and became the embodiment of death. She said she was in the area probably taking Sharon's body. She was just the closest, qualified person not already on the road.

Note: Even in the comics, Agatha refers to Tommy as Toby. It was originally a typo, but was made canon as a running joke. Non-magic/cosmic characters, she doesn't bother to remember the names of, kind of like forgetting the names of NPCs.

There are a couple of times where amnesia is mentioned, in his mom and dad's thoughts and then again when he tells his boyfriend that he never remembered anything before his thirteenth birthday, just lied so his parents would feel better. I took it as a very scared, very confused, and kind of traumatized six-ish year old's spirit just dropped into a corpse with head trauma. We have no idea how old Billy actually was because he and Tommy kept doing those 'growth spurts'. So I think it makes sense that Billy Maximoff's memories are still kind of locked up, and I'm wiling to bet part of Wiccan's Trial will be merging into one unified mind -- just a theory though!

@@screensanctum Jac Shaeffer and Joe Locke confirmed in an interview yesterday that Billy was always the Black Heart, thus always a member of the coven. This also means that even though he is not a green witch, he has the abilities to pass a Green witch trial. This is all assuming that Agatha was telling the truth and that trials are based on skills and not the people in the coven. For instance, Jen's trial the house was something 'off her vision board' and really revolved around her trauma with her powers being bound and her confidence in her skills. Alice's trial was in a recording studio that she clearly recognized and was filled with things revolving her mothers life and career. She also needed to break the curse for them to pass the trial. In Agatha's trial, the only spirits to show up were her own family. This means that it might not be skills like everyone is assuming, but the people in the coven themselves. Rio is not part of the coven (confirmed by Jac Shaeffer), she's just a tourist so there is no trial for her, but there will be a trial for Lilia and for Billy. Everyone seems to agree that the next episode is the best of the series, followed by 9 and then 8, so it's going to be fascinating to watch.

@@screensanctum Lila and Jen are not dead. We see them covered in mud and very much alive in the mid-season trailer. It's interesting how everyone is assuming they're dead when Agatha survived the mud herself. Now I don't know if Agatha really thinks they're dead or is just fucking with Billy- that's my bigger question.

Tommy and Billy Maximoff grew from newborns to 10 (can’t remember / did they say what age they were before the HEX ended) in a matter of days, and only existed at that age for a few days. I think transferring into a 13 year boy’s body, with its a brain filled with William Kaplan’s life experiences has left Billy’s mind all fckd up.

I'm glad of the theory of William dying and his soul moving on and while Billy's soul was placed inside William's body since the car crash was right next to Wanda's spell that had the whole town boxed in was true. So I'm assuming something similar happened to somebody else which involved an incident which allowed Tommy to enter there body as well just like what Billy did to allow himself to live which I'm pretty sure Tommy did the same thing which hasn't been shown yet but we're all just assuming it since Billy can feel his twin brother's soul Tommy being alive in somebody else's body.

He seemed to remember right after he woke up. The way i explained it to my mom was he gaslight himself. He started telling himself he was William Kaplan, and had everyone around him telling him he was William Kaplan. He knows something is wrong but doesn't know what. He was told he had amnesia and he knows he died. To him he was probably just confused. Billy and Tommy were real, like Monica said. They were just confined to the hex. Their souls needed somewhere to go so when William died there was a convenient vessel for him to go into. As for Tommy either his soul is still in a form of limbo or he found his way into the body of Thomas "Tommy" Shepard. Meaning something would have had to happen to the original Tommy.

In the comics Billy Kaplan is the reincarnation of Billy Maximoff (and reincarnated into the PAST, just to make everything even more complicated*) He was a mutant who, despite not actually having ANY genetic connection to Wanda in this body, still inherited his "mother's" reality warping powers. As puberty hit Billy K he began to start reading minds, or "being extra lucky" when under stress. At 13 he began to remember his past, and eventually went out to find his, missing twin. Then they team up with the other Young Avengers to find where Wanda has gone. *(I suspect the comic book authors needed him to be old enough to fit into their timeline and NOT be a 3-year-old) Applying Occam's razor to the sigil cast by Lilia, I believe she saw that the young man she had just met at his Bar Mitzvah was destined to die and be possessed by a spirit. She didn't understand it, and didn't want to know more. She seemed rattled after seeing it, and definitely laid on a thick spread off positive spin to avoid traumatizing the poor kid in his final hours. I think she cast a sigil that would make any and all "witch folk" forget about him. She didn't want to remember this poor child she had just seen die. Because Billy Maximoff IS witchy, he was affected too. So, after being disoriented by the trauma of "dissolving", he finds himself in a body that just had the trauma of dying, and some strange force is affecting him to make it incredibly hard to remember who he is, or what happened. At least he was stubborn enough to figure it out.

That ceremony at the beginning was a bar mitzvah. It's a Jewish celebration when a boy turns 13 years old. It basically symbolizes transferring from boyhood to manhood

Agatha immediately inquiring about where Billy Maximoff’s soul found a body to possess and assuring him that it’s okay for him to “break the rules” of death - she’s _immediately_ trying to find out the details of how so she can resurrect her son. Maybe the sigil Lilia put on him wasn’t to protect him from Agatha or other witches at all. Especially since Agatha confirmed she knew right away. Maybe the sigil was to protect him from Rio.

I don't think we are supposed to know exactly how Billy got his new body or how his memories went missing, as it would tell us too much about Tommy's fate. For example, if his soul was sent back in time, and William Kaplan was always Billy reborn, then Tommy is probably in the same situation. From what I've heard, comic knowledge wouldn't help you here, as that Billy had full memory of both lives.

What if Agatha Harkness did something similar to what we speculate happened with Billy Maximoff? Just as Billy may have found a new vessel and continued his life as William Kaplan, perhaps Agatha did something comparable. After taking over Rio’s body, she might have gone so far as to sacrifice Rio’s son. When we see Agatha under Wanda’s spell from Billy’s perspective, Rio’s absence is noticeable-perhaps because Rio was already dead, and Agatha had assumed her identity long ago. When they summoned Agatha, she appeared like a 'rising dead,' a reflection of her dark magic and the life she had taken over. That's what I think, but I'm still unclear on how Billy came to the idea that going down the witches' road would help him find his brother.
