I love that you’re addressing this show! I hope you keep going because each character had something that they were emotionally working on, Alice, Jenn, Lilia, Billy even the short lived Sharon who lost her husband and seemingly dealt with that, but not the emotional trauma that she went through during Wanda’s hex.

I loved this show so much. Also 2:45 , one of my favorite quotes (which I think I first heard in Desperate Housewives tbh lol) is "The opposite of love isn't hate. It's indifference. Hating shows you still care." That has always resonated with me for some reason, because it's so true when you really think about it.

And the thing some people aren't seeming to realize is that in their fights, Rio is holding back. She is Death itself, a primordial force of the entire multiverse. While she is definitely still deeply in love with Agatha, I feel like this was her way of getting back at Agatha for blaming her for their son dying. When Rio couldn't do anything to prevent it. She's his mother too, and that had to have devastated her. I hope we see her side of these events in the Death series that's rumored to be announced.
@BARALover96Ай бұрын
I don’t think Death is character we should follow as a protagonist. If they ever do a death series it would be anthology base
@phoenixrage1Ай бұрын
@BARALover96 Why not? I think it would be fascinating. And Aubrey can act her ass off.
@BARALover96Ай бұрын
@@phoenixrage1 because her character doesn’t work well in that role unless you have a way to fully develop well the primordial forces which is something they won’t want to do in a show. So like I said I don’t think the rumors are real at all but if they do a Death show it would be an anthology series and people’s interactions with her.
@phoenixrage1Ай бұрын
@BARALover96 I could see something akin to the Netflix Sandman, honestly.

In Agatha's case, similar to others, people forgot or ignore she lost THREE people. Her mother who betrayed and hated her, her son who was taken, and her lover who had to (unwillingly) take the son. People act like this doesn't all start with this mother. I can say from personal, betrayal of a parent doesn't atrocious damage to the ability to trust or believe in people. If they can and will hurt you, literally anyone can or will along a given timeline. Your mind and heart said it's an inevitability given time and opportunity. Evanora hating Agatha for being different and getting other to mistreat her started this path. It's not different from many real folk, even if it wasn't also a queer allegory (though she hated her, I assume, for the strange extra ability she was born with). Either way, Evanora could have chosen to love her daughter and treat her with kindness and light. She didn't. Agatha still makes her choices in response, but she didn't have to be that way and she often shows her softer protective side when her guard drops, like with Jenn and Alice (so one can't say she's only nice to Billy). She puts up her mask of callousness to protect herself soon as she feels threatened or vulnerable. People forget in the comics, she was ALWAYS a caretaker and loves to help raise children and the youth, so MCU Agatha has that already in her. The Lioness Caretaker.

Thank you for talking about the relationship between love and hate in this. It is one of my favorite topics of discussion, weirdly enough. People often believe that they're opposites, but they're not. They are very much intertwined. To me, apathy is the true opposite of both. The complete absence of caring for the other person's existence or thoughts. Great video, Jono! Looking forward to more discussions about this show. It'll be very helpful for me on a personal level.

Did you notice that when Rio licked Agatha's hand she healed the knife cut on her palm?
@Kattastic444Ай бұрын
Yes! Because Rio is a green witch, she is the circle of life. This includes death and life. Agatha mentions this cycle in the final trial. Rio can heal and give life in the same way she can take it. She healed Agatha after hurting her, she loves her. This is such a deep symbology.
@BARALover96Ай бұрын
No she can’t. Green Witches can manipúlate what’s already there but not create it out of nothing
@Kattastic444Ай бұрын
@@BARALover96 typically, but she's unique. Jac Shaffer talks about her always having flowers with her and creating them, like the one she presents to Agatha in episode 3. She's portrayed as the cycle of life in the show. She's not just a green witch she's THE green witch, she has abilities no one else has.
@BARALover96Ай бұрын
@@Kattastic444 with the earth around her. She is a green witch she is able to manipulate the things around her. They havnt shown her actually creating life cause she is Death. There is a different primordial being that rules of over life. Rio rules over the dead.

This cast is insane , Kathryn Hahn , Patti LuPone great as always but Aubrey Plaza really showed off new layers to her acting. Casting a dead pan comic to play death? Genius! Because she is so funny, when she switches to dramatic you really feel it.

I'm glad you decided to look at Agatha and Rio. I think for Agatha what Rio did was a hypothetical until--until it turned out to be her son's fated time. And Rio actually bent the rules as far as she could to give Agatha six years before taking him. But it would be hard for any parent to ignore the fact that Rio was the one who walked Nicky to the afterlife. Too soon. It would always be too soon. At that point, you have Hate(love) for Agatha and Rio kind of understanding, but also with growing anger at unfairly rejected, who becomes the toxic ex who won't stop trying to reconcile (in her chaotic ways). Tragic. Lilia's story in episode 7 is very interesting cinematically. Just sayin' 😉

I haven't been on YT in a hot minute. But the algorithm just dropped this and your other video on my feed and I am loving it. As a witch with a bunny familiar I have loved Agatha since Wandavision. The grief video resonated alot I lost alot of peoople in a short 3 year span to the point it was one person every 2-3 months during those three years. I did bottle alot of it because three of them helped define me as a person. I do alot of tarot readings, I was taught by my mother who not a witch but a medium was a huge loss. Before that a 2nd mother and before that my best friend who I went to school and uni with. I took so many hits that I shut alot of relationships out. Even my current one, I'm in then out flip flopping because the hits were constant and hard that to have that loss again I wanna protect myself from the hurt. Silly emotional constipation as my bf calls it.

To be honest, I don't think that was the moment she decided to sacrifice herself for Billy. I think her character is very readable at this point. She saw a chance to let Billy live but also not have to face Nicky AND get Rio out of her life. that's led to the kiss and because Rio promised her "to stop purshing her and the moment Agatha dies, she isn't allowed to look into her face" which she wanted or perhaps even had to keep it, Agatha was able to enter ghost form without having "unfinished business" and got everything she wanted.
@kmphereАй бұрын
That promise depended on Billy going with Rio though so not sure about that applying in this case. There was also a deleted scene that had Rio following Agatha and Billy through the door at the end.
@ria.thriftАй бұрын
@@kmphere But she did get Billy to agree to go with Rio. Rio said she couldn't take him unwillingly, if he died he would just find another body. But he willingly accepted her taking him, which was what Agatha actually promised. I think, when Billy dies, he won't be able to body hop the same because of this... which fulfilled the promise. Then Agatha accepts dying so he doesn't have to *right now*. Someone had to die for Billy and his brother to live.
@ria.thriftАй бұрын
Admittedly, I also think this is what kept her son alive for the 6 years. She was constantly killing witches both to build her power to protect him... but also to keep Death satiated/distracted. The night he died was the night they didn't kill any witches on schedule. She understood the trade she was making each time.
@BARALover96Ай бұрын
I don’t think Death will be able to do anything to Billy. He could still escape her because of the Demiurge side of his lore.

As someone currently living without any connection, who only first experienced it 6 years ago, i think you're definitely right on that point regarding agatha. Theres a threshold where it becomes too much, exaggerated in her case due to her extremely prolonged life ofc. To a certain extent i got the impression part of her isolation was self enforced, that it would be an insult to the memory of what she had to replace it.

Interesting that you see the kiss as a moment of forgiveness and moving on. I don’t completely disagree, and yet it feels like so much more than that. It’s not like Agatha and Rio’s relationship has significantly changed after that. I think there’s still a lot of love/hate there, but I wonder if we see them again in the future if they won’t be somewhat more civil to each other. Or just… a little more toned down. Less murderous, more tolerant. Not openly loving, but more understanding of each other. Maybe. Either way, loved the video, and I still hope we get to see Agatha get Villain Therapy one day. :)

I will never forgive Disney for that series, without any trigger warnings they walked us to the 7 & 8th episodes. Where you find out, that she nearly had a stillborn child,persuaded Death to give her a second chance and 6 more years and that the Witches road is just a song of a grief stricken mother. I was traumatised beyond. None of the story is canon to Agatha. As mother of a stillborn child, you never get to negotiate with Death, ever....I was disgusted, cancelled my subscription and refuse to have anything to do with Disney... most people think it was great, don't understand, just be glad you never have that degree of understanding. Disney I will never forgive you...
