One Tip for all gardeners: in this video u can see an underground step of agave americana...make multiple cuttings of this agave americana underground stem and u can make multiple plants with it. Although there isnt any leaf propagation method is on record but still there must be experimentation on that...

This is great! A friend of mine bought two of these and found the same thing, there were several pups in the pot including what looked like white roots that were actually pups too! I'll see how he gets on in the coming weeks. I'm also going to try and re-pot my Agave in the next day or two. Hopefully we'll get some warmer weather to get these going!

I know, our weather is so fickle... blisteringly hot one week, damp, cold and rainy the next - it's a wonder ANYTHING survives! I am most certainly not putting myself forward as an expert, nor do I claim to know anything better than anyone else, but if you find pups, and would enjoy any support, I'd be happy to help with details of how I managed to pot the pups I found, up and get them going.... :o)

I bought an agave at a plant sale and it has a Super long white root, how do I replant it, I bought it bare, no pot

Hi! I tried to do this but I was too rough and now I have 1 with 0 roots and one with very little... can I still plant these? Do you have any advice? 😅

What did you do with the pups that had grown downwards and were quite white? My experience: I purchased an Agave, which was so pot-bound I had to carefully cut the pot away with large sharp scissors, which took a while. The roots were so tightly packed it was impossible to disentangle them, and there were 4 or 5 pups which had developed in the pot, and were very squashed... three had grown out of the drainage holes, and had been sliced across, so that although no green showed, you could clearly make out the concentric pattern of the leaves, and there were roots attached, so I have taken a pot-shot and have re-potted them... Crossed fingers, I am relying on this plant's reputation for being indestructible (!) and am hoping they'll take and grow... But I also had 2 or three very elongated, white pups, all enclosed within the pot, with no exposure to space or light... I tried potting those on too... I'm crossing my fingers, big-time!

They should be fine if you have potted them on. Don't water them for at least a week or so, to allow them to get over the shock of exposure and repotting. good luck.

@@Burncoose Thank you so much for your reply... I truly appreciate your coming back to me... However, as my initial post was 3 weeks ago, I had to take the initiative - and I have to say, out of 5 pups, 4 have shown themselves to be tenacious, tough, determined and as their reputation suggests, pretty darn nigh unkillable! The one lost cause was pretty much done for, with only a short piece of white fleshy growth, no roots and an upper portion that was basically brown mush, so I had more than a decided suspicion it wasn't going to make it. The other pups were blanched, squashed, mis-shapen and stubby, but all were solid to the touch, and had a viable root or two, so I thought, the hell, why not? And now here we are, after 3 weeks of the worst weather we have had in ages, a steady and persistent downpour virtually every day, lower-than-average temperatures - and whaddya know?? By golly they're going great guns! I would post photos but am not sure how... But am very pleased that after receiving ostensibly one agave - I now have 5!

UPDATE: The pups are now officially mini agaves! They're sprouting new, spiky miniature leaves, and have obviously established successfully. I gave one to my mum, and like my remaining three, it's sitting in the brightest, sunniest spot of her garden, flourishing. Success!

Burncoose hi how often do I need to take the mother plant out of the pot to see if there are any pups , I’ve put it in a very large pot now hopping there’s more room for them to spread out and come to the top of the plant, do I need to wait until this happens before taking the plant out of its pot cheers

@@wingwong398 i wouldn't un-pot the Agave until you actually see evidence of new pup growth. I potted my big agave a year or so ago, and i now see a pup sprouting at the rim of the pot. I will repot in the spring, so unless you see that the Agave is bearing pups, or is top heavy and too big for the pot, honestly, I would let it be.
