A note about the Springalds, Mongols is the other faction who can get 13 tiles range Springald, thanks to their unique Ovoo upgrade. Plus their unique siege speed & armor upgrade, their Springalds are actually the best in the game, 0.5 less range but with much faster speed. With Yam & Khan's speed combo on top as well, expect to see ballista tank rush from late game Mongols.

TBH, Rus are only OP in the top tier. Managing production + hunt is extremely micro intensive. Also OP factions tend to be the 1st to be nerfed so i wouldn't get my hope up for keeping these strategies for too long.

Probably but the rest of civis can make the same, I usually like to make 2-3 scouts with survivor tech to take every hunt to the TC. Lot of food protected under the TC, is a great strategy with any civi, with Rus is easier. If you will make the "deer productor landmark", you can make a normal build order like others and that could be unespected for the enemy because you will have the bounty complete and more ;)

To combat the the stealing of hunts, the defender just needs a couple scouts with professional scouts. The Rus player may pre kill the deer but they won't hang around. With just 2 scouts you can just pick them up and bring them in

What I like about AoE4 is that the difficult factions are the best ones but theyre entirely reliant on how good the player is. A new player on England/France will probably be at an advantage against a new player on Rus/Mongols

I really like that they do this. A lot of games have the starter one's be some of the best and then harder to play ones just not be as good. But it should be the other way around. If you're playing a 3 start difficulty faction, and you've started to perfect that gameplay, you should dominate.

They might actually be one of the best Civs right now since they have the best Springalds imo now that cav has been nurfed and spearmen were buffed. Springalds were already very strong and Rus have the longest range of Springalds as long as you build High Armory as your Feudal age landmark and get the Banded Arms tech. Their biggest downside is they can't make stonewalls. Also Streltsy got nurfed.

I'm playing a lot of Rus' and yesterday i played against a Mongol. I had a hard time against his mangudaï until i massed springalds with both ameliorations. He couldn't do anything, i added some Streltsy to protect my siege units and the game was done.

Vs mongols age 2 just build towers and a good kremlin placement, age 3 your cav archers can defend you pretty well, age 4 3 strelitz oneshot mangudai, if he keeps going mang he’s gonna loose, also could go mangonels in between the springels to get good splash dmg

Abbey of the Trinity is normally better than High trade house. Though if your opponent is killing the hunts before you, or there are little hunts on the map. You can use the high trade house to spawn hunts in for you. To get that bounty bonus done. Cannons should outrange springalds, trebs, and mangos.

IMO the Abby of the Trinity play is as predictable as the Regnitz Cathedral play and nowhere near as strong. The Rus already make you play their game with the hunt control meta, the combination of that and making you play the relic game against them too is what actually makes the Abby powerful.

The only kind of counter I could think of would be archers to kill the monks, so you can take out the ranged units with lots of spearmen afterwards. The whole thing as distributed as possible, so as not to be greatly destroyed by the artillery. But this would turn out to be extremely difficult and you would basically have big disadvantages and thus problems. Variant two would be a sneak attack with horsemen in the back, if one should not notice that as an attacker. The only disadvantage of the RUS that I have noticed is that they cannot build stone walls. So the developers must have thought that you can possibly counter them with that somehow.

Actually, if you play Mongol, just get their unique Springald upgrade and walah you have 13-range Springalds as well. Along with their speed, you'll decimate the Rus's Springald.

Not really, just build enough spears to guard your resources if you see stable if he's Rus or French (They are the only civs to get feudal knights I also learned lancers are pretty much the same thing so there could be more) and you should hit castle age before him due to his heavy spending on gold. If he all ins with an archery range and some light bowmen either tower or what's better would be a stable to build light horseman to counter they only cost food and wood also so your eco should still be better if you can hold off.

if he is carrying a relic he can convert (wololo) nearby enemy units. The circle is what it looks like when it uses this ability. It's sort of a warning indicator to allow your enemy to move away while it's channeling

I haven't played against other players yet, a bit too afraid for it. But man I will say that knight upgrade for them that allows them to heal outside of combat is pretty crazy. Allowing them to harass and then run away and just heal the entire time they're away. Being able to come right back in again a minute later.

Their biggest weakness is water map, because their navy sucks. In land map, it depends on your civ: - Mongol can contest hunt with them and their mid-late game is as strong as Rus. - China can beat them in late game with Fire Lancers. - They have an opening from t3-t4 where you can exploit if you're both on equal footing eco wise.

Unfortunately the maps spawn very unfairly. I don't check my replays, but more than half of the games casted by Aussie Drongo that I've watched where he checks for map evenness turn out to be uneven maps. I hope it's one of the things they fix, and hopefully the November tournaments use good maps. Would suck to see $20,000 go to winners that win because of unfair map.

Having every hunting cabin be a scout factory was a bad idea. Early rushes are an issue in every RTS and six or seven Age 1 scouts definitely have that same effect. Even if you can't finish them off you can weaken them. Either every civilization has an option for early rushes, or none of them do (or maybe some don't but can defend extremely easily).

I wouldn't mind a small nerf to Rus scout production or something, in exchange for better ships. That's the only way I can imagine nerfing the Rus fairly. The French and even English are just way stronger for most of the player base AND objectively better on water. In the same way, I'd like to see the HRE reworked a little bit and overall nerfed on the water. Historically, it should def not be the strongest civ on water.

disagree, as an russian main i fucked up many matches on water maps to the point i carried many of them, even on unranked, as their singular ship is ridiculously abusive when you know how he and his upgrades work, as for russians you only need 2-3 scouts, one for scouting, the other 2 for deer killing, followed by having 2 knights kill all the boars on the map, unless your up against an aggressively-minded civ like french and mongols where its more important to rush them asap while your building the golden gate before they attack you, you have knights harass the vills nonstop while spears (if french) or archers (if mongols) deal with the knights and mangudais (remember to focus your attention on the khan with all units when he appears, then have units refocus on their specific jobs after he dies)

In regards to the tiers list I would say that Mongols are at least A. They have so many options for map control and are very strong in late game as well, but they are not easy to master. Not at all. The HRE on the other hand I would put to C or even D. Yes D, because they only got a good early game thanks to eco Prelates, but other than that they are lacking in every regard. No synergies, no cool unique techs, no good cav (although they had one of the strongest heavy cav in history, lack of reference to Teutonic Order can also be listed here. What a disgrace), no special archers, Religion (one of their core strengths. Supposedly) even is inferior to Rus, Prelates don't help the army at all aside from healing, but you get that with every civ (best healers are on Mongol and Dehli side). There is actually nothing for them aside infantry. But you better don't build the Landsknecht. Gold costs of a knight, but less impact than a spearmen because he dies upon creation. Historically he was the core and elite of the army and he excelled vs infantry and cavalry. He used pikes, halberds, sometimes flambergs and later on also arquebuses. But in the game he is an auxiliary wimp). This civ is in a ridiculously pathetic state. And on top of that very buggy as well. Yeah, it's D tier. And I know that you can win games with them under 20 minutes. But that's all they got. They are still D tier.

@@c.augustedupin8860 While the deer part is good, but most of the time for civ, food is not a problem most of civ have a way to boom, and they generally put 2nd TC next to wood/berry or gold, and make farm, that is how most of game pan out while focusing on stealng deer is good, but it doesnt hurt players as much as you think

@@stringdoll50 that's where my mate you're going wrong. creating extra TC is suicidal against the rus as rus as excellent map dominance tactics and yeah...food is easy to gather but russian get that way too quickly plus excellent counters against the cavs + counter archers make them very difficult to beat

I don't they're gonna get nerfed too heavily, they don't do well on map with fewer hunting/timber spot and their mid game has gap you can exploit. Maybe Hunting Cabin will go up 50 wood or their gold generation gets nerf. Streltsy may get their cost increased as well.

Kiev stopped being important after being sacked by Mongols and nearly being destroyed. "Kievan Rus" was an academic construct rather than an empire with Kiev as some influential capital. Speaking of cities of Rus', particularly the Novgorod is the city that persisted through much everything, older than Moscow. Not everything revolves around Moscow and Kiev.

it makes more sense actually, imagine a guy preaching right inside a battle field, would only one guy convert? I think everyone hearing that preach would convert, if they listen that enough. AND monk has to have a relic on him because you wouldnt blieve his words unless he has a holy proof. So dudes will be like hey look at this dude he has that divine thing on him and his words make sense we would be punished if we dont fight beside him. Then they convert.

The original priests were a viable option to counter expensive units only armies, while cheap spam was to massive to be wololoed. The new priests can counter every army, they are something standing above rock-paper-scissors. Another thing is, the game now has an opportunity to defeat every army with very low resources. Yes, it requires your opponent to make a mistake in the control, but I don't like it. Losing entire army in a blink of an eye isn't new to AOE: you may catch an artillery volley or run under mass ranged troops. However, these options require a lot of resources from the opponent. Compare it to a single monk.

@@Artem-yk7ig the wololo now can only counter units of a distracted and slow player. Never seen anyone making wololo brutal in matches, monks get targeted right away and the wololo is effectively over.
