As a 1100 rated player with 15 ranked games under my belt, I have the advice you need to win pro-tournaments. Here’s a free sample: send the flame wolf thingy at enemy houses to make them supply blocked. It’s so simple. You just take theMista into a late game, easy, then wolf his supply. 😎

The biggest imbalance is Norse vs. Egypt. It's impossible to play as Norse against Egypt.

@@amc693amc Not true at all. Objectively speaking, Norse vs. Egypt is imossible due to Axeman vs. Hersirs superiority. Not to mention slingers, spearmen and wadjets. With that army composition, Norse can just cry in the classical.

Very interesting. I wanted to mention that Isis and Ra could have had even higher winrates in the tournament and the reason that's not the case is that they have the highest ban rates. Which means weaker top players got to play them mostly.

The thing with Freyr is his design. He is a defensive civilization forced into an early aggression archetype (Norse = early aggression). As a result, he loses some of his tools for early aggression, but his defensive bonuses don't justify an all-out defense style because his archetype doesn’t benefit from the end game as much as other civilizations. It’s a contradiction in itself. I’m not sure what can be done for Freyr. Poseidon suffers from the same issue, albeit to a lesser degree. Greek is supposed to be the strongest at the late game and have a fantastic Mythic Age, but Poseidon lacks consistency in getting safely to the Mythic Age without risking it all along the way. Yes, maybe the solution would be to raise the Hippeus' stats, but only for Poseidon's Hippeus. I'm not sure if this would solve Poseidon's fundamental flaw; perhaps they should give him a new bonus or change one he already has.

I think Freyr is fine by design. I remember having a difficult time getting started with Norse back as a kid, because they were so widely different to Greeks and Egyptians. Having a god that embraces base building a little more seems like a good carrot to new players. With that said I am no longer a new player, so I don't really know what they think of Freyr. I do wish he would get Fortified Walls as an upgrade. (Tier 2 wall upgrade).

They should give Poseidon a buff to his Hippeus just like Zeus buffs his infrantry and Hades buffs his archers. Maybe give more durability as Magic said.

Another reason why the win rates don't capture the whole picture is that certain matchups get picked into each other. For example isis and set were often picked into ra and they did badly vs ra as ra is probably the strongest god and this lowered their win rates. Had they not had these games vs ra their win rates would be higher, but on the other hand players probably feel that isis/set gives them the best chance vs ra

This is exactly what I was about to comment. When i watched the tournament I saw a fair ammount of Zeus vs Hades match ups in the same map and that has a good ammount of influence in the tournament stats.

I know it's a meme that everyone thinks their main god is weak, but fwiw I strongly disagree about Odin being strong in Norse wars. Even in a tournament setting where some of the better players picked him with a clear game plan in mind, he's still losing most games to Thor and Loki (Freyr is the worst though, no doubt lol). Even as a Freyja and Valkyrie lover, I think the most important factor in a Norse war is being able to pick Forseti, which is also contributing to Freyr struggling. Hall of Thanes + Mithril Breastplate are great techs and even better in Norse wars. Odin can gather food faster, but the window of opportunity for him is so narrow compared to the economic scaling of Thor and the military scaling of Loki. Getting more Valks out is nice, but both Thor and Loki are going to be able to get more myth units in the long run (through Hammer of Thunder + Loki spawning them) and Odin has the hardest time of any Norse to deal with myth units as his Hersir have no bonuses and he can't get Trolls or even Draugr. Imo Loki is the best option in a Norse war. The extra counter unit damage blows everything else out of the water. You mention as Odin you can use TA to focus Hersir so Valks can tank, and that's true, but as Loki you can do the same thing but better. Loki naturally makes more Hersir (that are better) than Odin's and his Throwing Axemen counter them harder. So if both players are doing the same thing, Loki is going to have Hersir remaining while Odin's are dead. Any myth unit spawns at that point just snowball fights out of control. From the Norse games I watched during Wrath of the Gods, people are still kind of sleeping on Hirdmen in Norse wars if they can take Forseti People often control group TA and shift click Hersir, but even a handful of Hirdmen doing the same thing to Raiding Cav is absolutely deadly (especially as Loki). With Mithril Breastplate alone they have 55% hack armour! e.g. in a Loki vs Odin fight where each took Mithril Breastplate / Thundering Hooves, it takes 6 hits for a Loki Hirdman to kill a Raiding Cav and 11 hits for a Odin TA to kill a Hirdman, but Hirdman attack 50% faster than TA do! Additionally Hirdmen are cheaper and faster (especially with Hall of Thanes). I know range can't be ignored, but I swear I'm not crazy! 😂 I hope that you had a good holiday. I loved hearing that insight into that Odin vs Thor matchup! I think Freyr being so high in low ELO isn't too surprising, since matches there tend to be more passive, and Freyr has such strong bonuses if he can make it to lategame unharassed. Your predictions were overall pretty accurate though! Ra really is in a league of his own at the moment. I think 68% winrate with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-highest being 57%-60% is quite a big difference. Nice follow-up video to your tierlist! :)

Agree in almost everything, as a numbers guy, well, we need to have a reference on what gods are good or bad, a tournament setting is great, however the sample size is too small, also: in tournaments people choose god based on map and what thinks the opponent will choose. Anyways to me is a more fair way to rank the gods, the general stats are usually tied on how hard the god is to play with effectiveness, that's why Egyptians are there on the bottom half regardless they perform really well in high level play. Still I think there's lots of room for improvement even at the highest level of play, the gods have many quirks around them, playing them to their fullest potential is really hard: you mentioned sky passages, but also I see underuse of Egypt monuments all the time, you should have 3 by heroic and 4 before hitting mythic, like, all the time, but as a player I often also forget about keeping up with monuments, so can't complain too much. Also making monuments around prod buildings with Set is easy to miss, and that 5% discount on units pay the monuments by itself.

I'm excited for Set to get some buffs. The low win rate will probably mean some small buffs to try and nudge him more into the middle. I think animals of set might benefit from having a little bit of a buff; as it stands, the Hyena and Crocodile (as well as some early elephants) are the best bet, and his baboons are the best scouts due to only being 3 favor (that's stronger than Pegasus now, close to old Pegasus for Apollo). Probably an upgrade for age 3 or so to give you some better animals is all he really needs.

Out of all the games spammed, I’ve played the most Norse wars. I agree that Odin has the edge in Norse wars, especially against Freyr and Thor. Loki to me seems to have reasonable compensation as the bonus counter damage, springs, strength of trolls to counter valks, and MU spawns seem to be reasonable compensation. Odin can dictate due to army mobility but is there another strong reason rapl shows that it is better vs Loki? That MU has been closer to 50/50 for me as most of what you need for Loki army is wood for TA and trolls. Hersir are not needed.

I think Freyr's bonus have to be changed. The longer research time doesn't really fit in this game I feel. At lower levels he is really powerful though since people mostly can't pnish the eco.

You mixed up the win rates in major god matchup stats. The win rate when you play as loki against ra for example is 25%. And when you play as odin against loki is 33% etc. Loki did much better against odin.

You can put some numbers in the 'lower elo' box in the first page and see above certain elo range winrates only. I want to add that here you are a bit contradicting yourself. The tournament is supposed to show the best players playing THEIR best gods. So even if in lower sample size, we have the highest play achievable (well within the discovered meta) at the moment, but then you dismiss some of the info on it, like matchups. Even if theMista might be very good vs all other opponents, others are still playing their civ with the highest level. You were reading the grid wrong, glad you realized that.

It’s not true, in a draft format we don’t get to play our best god, we have to play every god and some players are not affluent with every civ, therefore if some solo god players are forced to play gods they’re not use to they can drive win rates down
