In the time of Great Woe, the sacred Song twisted and writhed in erratic, anarchic notes. The dryads became twisted, oozing echoes of their previous selves, the land whined, crying out in agony and torment. The Everqueen watched helplessly as her domain became an infected bog of filth and decay, the pain and rage nearly driving her mad... Alarielle understood that the tide of pestilence which continued to spread rapidly and infect her children could not be broken. The children of life are a naturally gentle race, devoted to the cultivation and protection of nature and life itself. Consumed by grief and desperation, she did the unthinkable. Taking a note from her enemy, she created the Spites of Ghyran, who would bite, burrow, and eventually take over the mind of the host, turning them into mindless slaves to her will. At first it seemed to be working. The hordes of Grandfather Nurgle became corrupted with spite-fever. Warriors and daemon-spawn alike turned on their comrades, causing panic and further chaos within their ranks, and giving the children of Ghyran time to regroup. Releasing the Spite Swarm eventually backfired, however, infecting enemies and Sylvaneth alike, causing even greater discord within the Sacred Song, forcing her children to turn on each other. Dryads ripped their kin apart, the infected ones' bark turning dark and ominous. Ancient Treelords became sick with spitefulness and rage, turning on their own Groves and denizens. Revenants were corrupted and became ferociously untamed and violent, the infection even changing their appearance, stripping them of their antlers and compassion. The Wyldwoods became a living nightmare for it's protectors, never knowing if a member of their kith and kin had been infected, or when, until it was too late. Alarielle quickly realized her monumental mistake. The Sons of Durthu, her counsel, becoming so enraged and despondent they ceased speaking to her entirely, some resolving to wither away and die. Others sought retribution upon their mother, for this sin was so great, so unnatural and unbecoming, so discordant to the Sacred Song, that a reckoning was fervently sought after. Retreating to the safety of isolation, she began the incantation to render the swarm's enchantment void, while also wiping the memory of these terrible events from her children's minds. It took the Everqueen three days and nights to finish the spell, the entirety of which she spent in such an emotional turmoil it began the winter aspect of her cycle. With tears streaming down her face, the words she spoke trembling and shaking, the goddess continued her incantation until the Shrouded Season had been erased from her people's collective memory. But the damage was done. The "flitter furies", the malevolent spites that had once caused such tragedy, had become unable to bite, burrow or infect, instead began feeding off the negative and malicious emotions of nature spirits. After the Spite-Fever was rendered innate, the large numbers of infected Sylvaneth were changed forever. Upon returning to her people, Alarielle witnessed the incredible polarity between her children and these new...outcasts. They were malicious, lurid reflections of what they had once been, in perpetual War-Song. The Everqueen declared them outcasts and sent them away, as they were causing such discomfort and uneasiness amongst her untainted children, who feared of being infected with whatever it was that plagued their fallen brethren. Many years later, when the forces of Nurgle seemed to be imminently victorious, Alarielle made one more radical decision in her desperation. The Everqueen traveled to the hateful chasm known as the Hamadrethel, where she planted a barbed, shrapnel infested soul pod that would soon bear an unhinged monster; Drycha Hamadreth. Upon her sprouting, she burst into a War-Song that resonated with the Outcasts on such a level that she considered herself the monarch of these fallen creatures. Deaf to Alarielle's Song, Drycha constantly seeks to destroy all that stand against the Realm of Life and the Sylvaneth... (THIS IS A FAN FICTION I JUST MADE UP IT IS NOT CANON OR FROM GW IT'S JUST FOR FUN)

Theory: As the hosts of chaos stormed into Ghyran, Alarielle in her rage made a terrible choice. She decided to fight fire with fire, and allowed a whisper of chaos into a flock of Soul Pods, to create a mighty weapon. Her regret was so immediate and intense that she wiped the minds of the pure Sylvaneth, and began her road to despondency.

If I made this one of my armies I think outcast would make up most of it. They just seem cool which always a massive plus.

After seeing Drycha Hammadreth on Rerolling Ones, I think she's an awesome addition to the Sylvaneth lore. I would love to build a force that's sort of opposite of the usual structure. A Wargrove led by Drycha and the Outcasts with Nobles gladly following her, almost with a religious fervor. They're still loyal to Alarielle and the Treelords think their victories and defeats are directly correlated to her mood, but Drycha almost manipulates that to her own ends--be it fighting Chaos or the race's supposed allies. I think it's interesting to imagine Drycha not just as a wrecking ball, but a conniving and shrewd leader. The push-and-pull is awesome, as you said in the video and I think it could be interesting to dive more into that darker side. It'd be like playing Daughters of Khaine without having to paint pale-faced aelves in skimpy outfits.

Doug you are the man, and I can not thank you enough for this roller coaster ride of lore diving. The Outcasts are SO COOL and instead of starting off with a druidic Duardin army that will involve a LOT of conversions (just getting back into it, should prolly get a bit more experienced first) I may just switch to Sylvaneth. Thank you times a million and please keep em coming. Request: All the Ghyran stuff. I too have been frustrated with the lack of in depth stuff. I want to learn more about these rumored "root-king" duardin, the humans that live on Ghyran, how did non-Sylvaneth get there? Have they always been there?

I honestly had no idea about this lore. I'm a chaos player but this makes me want to make an Outcast Sylvaneth army. EDIT: Did some research. At least on paper, and army of just Drycha and Spite Revenants (which have their own battalion) is definitely do able at 1500. But to me it really doesn't sound viable. Plus it would be a very expensive army since Revenants at $37 per 5...

yea... I think one of teh biggest hinderances to this faction is the 5-man kit for spite/tree-revenants :(

@@2Tough Yeah. And neither version of Revenants really have a "5 man unit" profile. They're 1 wound each at a 5+ save. Tree Revenants are 80 points per 5. Compare that to our lovely Chaos Warriors at 90 per 5, and we have double the wounds, +1 to save, and either an equivalent weapon (great blades) or a 5+ against Mortal Wounds. Dryads really seem like the only logical choice for battleline in a Sylvaneth army..
