Sound quality on this one is a little iffy :( but otherwise great stream! Love the changes to diplomacy, which always was the weakest part in AoW. Now it really feels like you have to make diplomatic choices and not just "have peace with everyone until I decide to declare war on them one after another".

The sound is a concern of mine. It's hard to tell with the effect volume so low (red flag). Sound was by far the weakest aspect of Planetfall. Thankfully that was fixed by a mod, but Scifi sounds are easier to do, and anytime you leave problems to be solved my modders, you're taking a risk. If I had one piece of advise to give to these guys between the two games it would have been "hire a good sound guy". I don't really think they understand how important sound is, at least they didn't when they were making Planetfall. (I see you were talking about the stream its self, and you're right, still the in game sounds are a concern for me)

@@advicepirate8673 Damn, untill you mentioned it and I gave it a think, that's so true, sounds in planetfall is really lacking, although the later DLC's had better sounds imo, the oathbound and shakarn. However I do not think sounds in this type of game is all that important, think of CIV5, its sounds isn't all that memorable.

I willl say again, I love the look of the game, it seems to be turning out to be really interesting! Only thing I can think of is just a few more variations for animating attacks. Cause to see a dragon just do a little claw attack repeatedly is a bit meh. Or maybe atleast a different animation for critical attacks and not just slow-mo!

I will be honest here. A few months ago when we started to see stuff, I wasn't really sure if AoW4 would be worth it. It seemed like a minimal evolution of the AoW3 gameplay, at least on the surface(which was kind of half-expected with how it being a "4th" in a series). But there is so much new cool stuff to do. From how you design your faction and their playstyle, and how it "evolves" during play with Tome selection, to interactions with the world around you, like the resources and neutral spawns. A lot of high quality features and interesting ideas, and I look forward to try it all out myself.

Something that was kind of glossed over in the middle of the stream: the fact that when you're called to war because of a defensive pact, you're considered someone who declared war by the AI. This seems very counter-intuitive, as realistically, the person declaring the war is really the one who attacked your ally, you just choose whether or not you honour an agreement. You did not choose to start this war, so surely it shouldn't give you a negative modifier, unless you are at war with a friend of said AI? I also really love the one free respec mechanic. Something I often annoy myself over in other games.

As for the war thing I kind of agree, but at the same time, it depends on how you look at it. It could have been your ally that started the war. But either way, you weren't at war with your ally's enemy and you do have the choice of staying out of the war, so looking at it like that, it is indeed you that starts the war with that particular opponent, even if it is as a result of keeping a treaty. A change that could be done is that if someone declares a war on someone in a defensive pact, the war declaration is against everyone in the pact. I think that would also make defensive pacts stronger, as now you can't realy be sure that your pact allies will actually honour the treaty if you're attacked.

As i have said before - it really seems like they took the best things of the previous game, added exactly the correct features and then improved EVERYTHING. and whatever grievances we might have ( animations, unit responses, etc. ) are either very minor, or understandable considering how comparable few people are working on it. 50 bucks preorder is a fair price, and even the premium seems a reasonable purchase. And the best thing about it, through these streams, we can ALREADY see, that for people who like these kinds of games, this will be the definitive experience for years to come. BOY am i glad i didnt waste 30€ on conquest of eo last month xD

I liked limited time one-way open borders of the Planetfall more. If I don't want people to walk all over my territory, want to stay kinda neutral with them and I absolutely need to go through their lands I'd prefer to buy a temporal "pass" from them, not make unnecessary alliances.

Same thing happened in Planet fall. It's easier to make friends at first, but eventually your friends start declaring war on each other. And then you have to choose.

I'm sure it's probably way too late to make major art changes, but I do agree with the comments about the game looking very dark. This game has a very high fantasy feel, but it's getting washed out by dark character portraits and dark color tones on the combat map. Like the forest for instance, looks more like a swamp instead of a colorful and enchanted grove. Maybe that is intended.... but in any case, I'm still very excited to get my hands on the game and see for myself.

Just a quick question: Ive noticed both on this and on previous videos that you can create an outpost with your army (kinda like a forward base in Planetfall) and then turn it into a city with Imperium. Is this the only way to create new cities, because i havent seen so far anyone mentioning colonizers/setlers in any stream so far?

Yes, this is the new mechanic, there are no settlers in this game. You have to create an outpost with a hero, and if you want, you can convert it into a city for Imperium.

There are two reasons they chose this mechanics: 1) heroes are usually out there, where you probably need an outpost or city anyway 2) to eliminate the strategy of blocking empires from expansion by hunting down their settlers continuously.

@@Savvasthekiller I kinda like it - having to scuttle your early game growth to produce a settler to set yourself up later, instead of expanding or building cool fighty units kinda killed the early game pacing. So I think replacing population and production costs with a city cap is a more elegant solution to limiting city spam.

1:14:25 - It seems to be pretty late (three weeks later?), but I think I know what happened. Rainbow Queen started trade for this flower quite early, and it was going on until now. Still, since that elves vassalized city, which makes all their resources provided for free, so no new trade became aviable.

Why do you get -50 grievance against you for following through on a defensive pact 1:13:13... but only -10 if you directly attack someone without justification? 1:21:51 Seems like something went wrong there.

I think you're confusing the icons? Do you mean Relation or maybe Alignment? None of the times you highlighted show 50 grievances being awarded

​@@Akazury I suppose I'm using relations and grievances interchangeably, which are admittedly different. Still the balance seems to be a bit skewed since answering a defensive pact call to war shouldn't really be punished. The first one (defensive pact call to war) says relations with non allied rulers -50 for 20 turns while the second unjustified war only awards 10 grievances to non-allied rulers with no relation penalty.

@@Jeff55369 That is probably because Grievances have a innate relation modifier that is present as long as the Grievance exists. Adding a additional relation modifier on top of that is probably doubling up when there's no need.

If you want to change time paths, or take a different tome, how does that work? It feels like the later ones build off the first ones so much. Can you take another basic tome later to synergize your stuff better? Or must you always take higher level ones?

For the event decisions to prevent the astral crisis that came up. If one option destroys your cities stability and drains most of your mana is that just a non choice? Is it possible for two of your affinities to be opposed to each other causing you to face a crisis regardless of your decision?

The Ancient Wonders have kind of taken the place of those in the sense that you need a hero to enter and interact with/clear them. Ancient Wonders in 4 kind of function as a combination of Planetfall's anomalous sites and 3's treasure sites.

As someone who played all the fantasy AoW with all the DLCs through, I am excited. But I would love to, if you could add back handcrafted maps. IT was why I never fully played through the Planetfall. It was nice and fun game, but it was... repetitive. Random maps were... little bit too same. Even tho, I will most probably buy the game.

Research, drafting and building all seem to go really fast compared to most strategy games I've played. Does anyone know if the pace is meant to be that fast or if it's either in a quick game mode or a testing game mode to make it all go faster? Do we have controls over that pace?

You can change inAge of wonders planetfall the time your operations need until their ready(the rounds) So I think you can do this in age of wonders 4 too.
