That is dandy. In the 60's there were a lot of trucks and delivery Vans that were hand lettered and faded from wear and sun. I used to see business doors downtown that were done like this. It's cool when you see the brush strokes and wear thru! Nice work!

What a great way to do aged enamel David! By adding the clear the "coverage" still has substance. In my opinion this is a superior way to lettering normally then "aging" with abrasive methods. Love the innovation!

Thanks Mate! I ripped it off form someone else :) I like it better than scuffing too. It's easy to control. This was the original paint job, so I was a little freaked out, and asked the owner several times if he really wanted to put paint on it. He was a little hesitant but decided to go for it. I was glad he did. What are you working on these days?

Hey Dave ! Great Vid' and comentary.....have seen this "distressed" lettering several times out-n-about and have actually done it several times myself.( one of those effects that quite can't be duplicated at those vinyl shops............yet). I usually add baby powder to the paint and save my wht chaulk for my pounce box.I let it dry overnight then will use some 1500 wet-sand (carefully) to help "thin-out the stroke marks (also takes away a little of shine too.) Can't help but see you use those little 1/2 pint cans..(or maybe you just refill them out of the qrt' cans?) I've had good luck using th quart cans. I don't have one of those fancy pallet knives though....I just use one of the wifes old butter knives. I keep my lids clean by stirring with the knife and then lifting out the paint on the blade to the outer edge of a 2 oz. cup held at aprox' 45 degree over the opening of the can, and slide the outside lip of the cup along the edge of one side of the knife.....I can fill a cup in a matter of seconds with this up and down motion. When done, I simply rotate the back side of the knife and slide the remaing paint into the cup...hardley ever need to wipe off my knife.....Again Dave , thanks fer sharin'! (ps, I see your buddy James Dobson got a feature in last SighnCraft !)

@davidographicsguy
@davidographicsguy 5 жыл бұрын
If it is old vehicle like the one in this video you just use Isopropyl Alcohol. If it's a modern vehicle you need to use an auto wax and grease remover to remove the wax down to the clear coat or the one shot will not adhere well. If you want to be able to remove the artwork at some point, just use 1-shot straight out of the can, Easy Off Oven Cleaner will remove the paint. If you want it to be permanent add a couple of drops of 1-Shot hardener in your paint in a separate cup. DO NOT add hardener to your cans of 1-shot, the paint will harden. you do not need any clear coat. I hope this helps. Have Fun!

Nice lettering. Doesn't look anywhere near aged enough for 80+ years old though. Needs more distressing.

No Mr. David-O, the truck has a beautiful paint and then you want a 20 year aged lettering? That's a dichotomy! One can't be NEW and not the other! Well, it can in that world but not in real time! You should have straightened him out!
