Moonlight Marhi go to www.FTC.com/IDTheft and slowly follow the instructions on creating an account, placing a fraud alert, and each step it tells you to do. It takes time. Change all banking, monthly bills/accounts, and email passwords. Call your bank and talk to their fraud department. They will help you turn on two factor authentication and ask them to put a verbal password on your account when calling so no one can call pretending to be you. Also, when calling back, dispute any charges that you didn’t make. It’s a slow painful process but freaking out doesn’t help. Take a deep breath and start with the FTC site.

Just in case you're just as new to this as I am and are overwhelmed, here's some good basic steps: 1. Put a fraud alert on one of the following (experian, transunion, equifax) and once you let one know, they have to let the other 2 know. 2. Call the FTC number and file a report over the phone - they'll email you a username and temp password (make sure you sign in within 24 hours) and go through their recovery plan checklist. Download.a copy of that report so you have it. 3. File a report with your local police department (mine allowed me to do it online). IF they allow attachments, attach your ftc report. Even if nothing was stolen, still important to do this. 4. Call the fraud department of all your banks so they can put an alert and two factor authentication on your accounts. 5. Change ALL your passwords (especially if you're guilty of using different variations of the same passwords. Turn on two factor authentication on whatever gmail accounts, facebook accounts, or whatever other social media accounts 6. Call the fraud department of wherever/however you discovered your identity theft. Let them know what is going on and send them afadavits if possible letting them know, with a copy of your ftc and police report. We're all going through it together, but we'll be okay!

Happened to me. Be extremely careful when applying to jobs, they sit on job boards pretending to be employers. When it happened to me they gave me a w9,i9(that’s required by law to verify identity) and direct deposit. Your credit report should be able to tell you if they tried to apply for credit cards,loans or anything of the sort in your name. To block them from getting into your accounts you can open another account that your employer pays into, in the event that’s it’s a job scam designed to steal your information and they give you direct deposit forms that get that account and not your actual bank account as a means to protect yourself from that.

Be careful of government agency personnel as well. I swear everytime I go to a government agency the first thing someone ask me for is my social security number when I already have a case number. Everything they need to know should be under my case number. I'm going to start asking why they need a social when I have a case number, lets see how they react then. 🤔
@AGeekyGuy5 жыл бұрын
Even my bank will ask for last 4 or 6 of your SSN in order to access their records under certain circumstances. This is how hackers tried to empty my bank account as they had all my information but what they didn't have is the verbal pass-code I put on all my accounts. This simple trick saved me. Most government agencies ask for SSN as it is much easier and faster to lookup vs a case number. They usually can lookup by case number but SSN is asked out of habit as most people don't know their case number.

Greg Calleja that sucks! I can only imagine. Print a copy of your entire credit report and go to the FTC website to start the identity theft process. It gives you step by step and can put a 7 year fraud alert with your cell number so no one but you can open new lines of credit. You can also go through the credit report you printed and one by one contact those companies. It will take time to clear each one up to have removed from your credit.

This is happening to me now. I have the persons email address, the name she uses and her actual home address. Also, she forwarded all my mail to her address. What should I do now? The police keep telling me that she isn’t stealing from me she’s stealing from the banks.
@AGeekyGuy5 жыл бұрын
I am not sure how things work in other countries but if she is forwarding your mail, she is clearly stealing and using your identity which I'm pretty sure is illegal in all countries. Is her address within a reasonable driving distance? If so, go to the Police station for her city with all the proof. Go into your local post office and demand the mail forwarding be stopped and ask how the forward was setup in the first place. Explain what happened and ask them how to prevent the person from continuing to forward YOUR mail. Stealing from the banks is worse than stealing from you which tells me your Police are a joke. A crime is a crime regardless of who the victim is. Did you follow the link in my video description? It should have you create an account and walk you through what to do. It helps you place fraud alerts that requires credit agencies to text you while speaking on the phone with you to open new lines of credit. All other open credit to include your bank, I would call and ask them to put a verbal password on your account. If you want, send me a message on my Instagram, and I'd love to hear more about what you have going on. AGeekyGuy

This will also prevent you from opening credit and in order to open new credit you will have to sign back into all three to enter the long code you are given in order to put the freeze on. It is actually easier to place a free one year fraud alert to your credit and then with a Police report number, you can file for a free 7 year fraud alert. This will make any company that goes to open a line of credit to call your cell number you placed on file to verify that it is you.

You would want to file a police report so that your info is on file as well as let your local DMV/MVA or whatever the name of your local drivers license office is so that your have on record that it was stolen. Then you would want to follow the other steps in my video to place a fraud alert on your credit so no one can use your ID to open new credit. The hardest part about someone having your ID is that they can commit crimes using it, example is they get pulled over by the Police and that person uses your ID. This is why you want to make sure you file a report to save yourself later headaches.

Ummm...??? I look at credit reports all day long. NO credit reporting agency has your access passwords to your various accounts, they don't have any checking/ savings or other bank account numbers, and they don't have any of your security questions or answers. ONLY the actual creditor or bank itself would have that information on file. Your credit report DOES have credit card, car loan, and mortgage account numbers (including balances, minimum payments, etc), along with social security number, and even birthdate.
@AGeekyGuy7 жыл бұрын
Joe Metzler I checked my Equifax and it has bank account numbers to my bank which the hacker(s) attempted to use. I suggested changing passwords to all other accounts to include two way authentication because personal information from your credit report (first car owned, mother’s maiden name, etc) might be used for your security questions to reset your password. Turn on two factor authentication prevents access. User accounts and passwords were also among data stolen in the Equifax hack. So if you use the same password (I dont) or same security questions it would be another reason to change your passwords.

@AGeekyGuy6 жыл бұрын
Mike jones they just document what happened and place it on file. Unless it’s 100s of thousands of dollars or more they honestly don’t do anything but the report is needed in order to place the 7 year extended fraud report on your credit agencies. Then, whenever a new line of credit is trying to be opened they will verify it’s you by sending your cell phone a code you have to read back to them. No code, no new line of credit.

It's the best when they are dumb. In my case they were from Montreal Canada. A few of the retailers already didn't allow the order to go through due to the same address being associated to other names and past fraud orders. The women and man using my identity ran the office for a condo/apartment/flats where all packages went to their office for pickup. They would use names of people that have already moved out that way if someone did investigate it would lead to the people who have moved, unless you are smart enough to dig deeper. What is sad is all of this is considered minor and they don't waste their time going after these people when in reality they have done this to countless other people that would most likely total up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

@AGeekyGuy4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would at the very least monitor your credit. Even if you have bad or very little credit, everyone still has credit or credit available to open in your name. There are three main credit agencies and each allow one free credit report a year via their website. I use to check each one at random 3 times a year. So I check one and about 4 months later I check another. Now, I have a paid yearly monitoring service and I get alerts anytime there is a change or credit inquire. I never will recommend a credit freeze except as a last resort because a freeze means even you can't open credit and it's a pain to unfreeze and refreeze. If you are able to put a fraud alert on your accounts that is the best option which is what I did. If you have the proof someone files taxes that should be enough to send the request for a 7 year fraud alert. This does take time and the info on the process is on the FTC site.

Selena Ortiz first, find the local Police department where that person works, second take all the proof you have of identity theft to your local Police departments. Explain what happened and make sure they take down a report. Make sure they know the person who stole his identity is using his name at that place and provide them that Police departments info. Now, after you leave the Police department with a copy of the Police report or at least the Police report number. Immediately contact that other police department and explain to them everything you told the first local Police and give them the case number. They should be able to go arrest the person who stole your identity, if the Police do their job. If you call his work, you will just alert him that you know. Also, call the IRS line with your case number and explain everything to them as well. Tax fraud is a huge crime, same with identity theft.
