Oh boy, this video is an absolute must-watch! Finally, someone addressing the issue of ageism in interviews head-on. Thank you for shedding light on this important topic, Bill! 👏🌟

So I know this video is about ageism from the perspective of being an older seasoned person, which I can't relate to just yet. But what I've experienced is from the opposite end. In corporate I would always get - wait, how old are you? Or are you even old enough to be leading this discussion? To be honest, I still get it now in my business where someone will every once in awhile will assume I'm too young to be doing what I'm doing. Don't feel great! So I can only imagine how it feels to have all this wisdom as an older person and feel as though it's not appreciated.

I love this post because it really does show the opposite side of the coin.

How about overcoming ageism to get the interview.

Make sure to age proof your resume so it does not show your age. For example, there is no need to go back more than 15 years on a resume. Anything older than that either leave it off or create a new heading called "Additional Work Experience" and put those jobs under that. Make sure you are not using antiquated skills / words on the resume (i.e., CRT, Cobalt, etc.). I have other tips for this here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGiomqhpmtqSns0si=qKX4dUc2i4VNCSKs

But what if those perceptions are true? For instance, what if you're older and don't want to learn computer skills, you like telling war stories, you want to do things the way you've always done them, you feel your energy is decreasing, you have health issues including an aversion to stressful management positions, and you can't remember much? Can you give us old hound dogs with bad posture a bone? Do we have to go to the pound?

This one gave me quite a chuckle this morning - LOL. In a few weeks I will be talking about taking early retirement :-)

What’s ironic in this is the interviewers and hiring managers are in the same age group they are discriminating against. In my experience they have been over 40 and over 50 years old. I had one where the business owner was almost 60 and still hired a much younger candidate over me with no experience. He said he would rather fire someone he can train and mold from the ground up.

I am curious, what is the Industry you are applying to?

@@BBenoist card payments and FinTech industry. I am a risk analyst and fraud prevention analyst. It was just a couple of years ago head hunters and recruiters were coming for me. Now they hardly look at me.

So naive to think anything you say during an interview is going to stop the interviewer from being a bigot.

Some people just have their minds made up, no matter what you say. Just gotta keep it moving. Not ever hiring manager is going to be like that.
