I originally suspected you were going to locate that damaged hole by mapping out the rest of the bolt pattern, and deducing where it should be. Then, when you got a bolt placed in it, I thought you would use a dial indicator mounted in the chuck, and spend a solid 5 minutes dialing the workpiece in underneath the chuck. I think I like your solution a little better... BTW, hoping to see some more videos in spring, when the shop warms up

Sometimes simple solutions works OK, why over complicate. Hoping to return to video making in the near future. Regards, Ade.

So, was the thread on the top half of the new studs going to be the old stud diameter and thread size? Or will the head stud holes have to be drilled out also?
@AGEngineering5 жыл бұрын
In this case a later head was used with the larger diameter bolt holes already in, but if upgrading the head bolt on an earlier model then yes, would have to be drilled out on the head also. Thanks for watching, Ade

nice ,,,,what make of mill have you ,,,?
@AGEngineering5 жыл бұрын
Hi, it is a CVA 55 mill , useful because of its low overall height compared to a Bridgeport.Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

Sounds like you've got some horrible lurgy, that continental travel's no good for a Burton lad you know! Nice to see some bike bits back in the shop.

I'm very impressed. I've just bought a new Atlas barrel because of the problem you have just fixed. Do you fancy repairing my old one which was resleeved to original bore as a valuable but diminishing spare part for future use? John Melville.

Thanks for the favourable comments, this is just my hobby for my own stuff and a few friends in the classic bike and karting scene.Some of the things I do are for the KZbin content. Could probably help if you were fairly local, email me at adegwilliam@gmail.com so not to post personal info here. Thanks

John, how were you able to re sleeve an Atlas barrel back to 73mm? The problem with Atlas, G15 & early Commando barrels was they are very thin in the walls. Taking out anything more than 0.020" was very iffy and 0.040" would always take you through the side wall. Hence not enough material to grip even a thinwall liner. I remember looking at this around the early 70s. The options then were a liner from Laystall Engineering to take it to 68mm (650ss pistons) or a later 750 Commando barrel and head. Many of the earlier 750 blocks and heads before 1966 were spigotted, which gave it's own form of entertainment with CA head gaskets.

Hi Bob, only just found your comment. The work was done before my ownership by Fred Barlow so I don't know the details.
@oldbiker44886 жыл бұрын
Bob, I've just looked at the invoice supplied by Fred Barlow. It states " barrel sleeved to standard, Pistons supplied to suit ". This was done in 1990/1. The new barrel was supplied by RGM and the existing pistons reused as they had done only around 700 miles. The bike is 1964, but the head is not spigotted. I suspect this helps you not at all. John.

Did you folk know, that back in the early 60's there was a 500cc twin, Norton, raced very successfully in Holland. Would beat Manx Nortons. Well I ran into the rider here in Canada; he ran a tool making company and had pictures on the wall. So I asked him, "why so successful" his reply, "it had an 8 valve head" Just imagine all the Norton riders who would go for that.I asked him, "where is it, he picked the phone up, called Holland, only to find it had been broken up!! It was owned by Phillips of Eindhoven. Such a sad end to the story.

Should have welded in the damaged area of the hole and drilled it out.
@AGEngineering5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I think for this one the customer did not want any welding done incase of cracking or distortion. Best wishes, Ade
