@jonsatvoutdoorchannel6686 well it seems obvious, with all the direct references Smith makes to what the Oracle said, furthermore, it seems that what Smith actually did to the Oracle was take that doubt, and lack of understanding of Neo's choices, and blew it up to be the only thing on her mind, at which point, Smith was able to override her code. But she knew that if she was going to understand Neo, she would need to allow this to happen... because the eyes of the Oracle cannot be taken... only given.

Smith was important...but Neo and Morpheus were as much so. And Trinity not far behind. So if Weaving were replaced by someone not as great, the movie would still be about 75% as good, which would still make it among the best. And wait, that's only actors. They are matched in value by the cinematography, and the story. So (A*.75)+C+S = M !Weaving>92% as good as with Weaving.

Neo is in his always been a virus in the matrix. That is why he is the integral anomaly. He is integral to the system. Necessary key component for the reset system. That's all he was. I just wish they would have had matrix four be about why he was the specific reset. Why he was cloned time and time again. He could have been one of the people who brokered the peace deal in the UN resolutions with the robots from 01, as seen in animatrix.

The hundreds (thousands of Neos) on the screens don't have to originally be Neo from previous cycles of the Matrix. When the system reboots the program rewrote with Neo from the beginning. If the matrix broke and you fix it, you need to rewrite with the 'fix' from the beginning. Hence the previous versions of the One are written over top with Neo. (think of reprogramming a Pacman game to be Miss Pacman)

The irony is that Agent Smith seems to have a lot more depth than Neo, despite appearing to be copied and pasted into the Matrix as compared to Neo, who gives off of a vibe of being deliberately manufactured to be the "hero". Is it possible that Agent Smith hates humans because he exists within a higher dimension of existence, giving him insights about humanity that most are unaware of? To use an analogy, it's like how a chess grandmaster wouldn't be all that impressed with the moves of the average challenger and Neo is like that guy who constantly defies all logic and wins every match through dumb luck which, to Agent Smith, is against everything he had known about the rules of the game.
@sakisen

I always imagined that the program Agent Smith was built from code fragments copied over from previous Matrix iterations. He has no real memories but some kind of subconscious experiences lead his decisions. So maybe he was some kind of helpful servant in the first Matrix and was partly at fault for it to collapse and hates mankind because they betrayed his trust and helpfulness. Would be poetical if the agents were something like angels in the first Matrix and were then turned into a more demonic role to hunt mankind down.

Neo was always wanting to know about the matrix and find it. When he did he was too much an outsider to truly understand. He just manipulated it like a savant. Like a mozart banging out a masterpiece and putting salieri to shame who studied music all his life. Who struggled to do in years what took mozart a few weeks. If you wanted one of them to teach you tho, you'd be better off with salieri. Morpheus and trinity knew how the code worked but couldnt manipulate it. And smith was born within it and knew nothing else. Until neo. Then he became salieri, always trying to gain the upper hand on someone that was a savant and could do what neo could do, but it was neo's innocence and precise lack of fundamental understanding that let him create on the fly, where smith was only capable of copying and mimicking something neo had already done, and not well.

"Neo" literally means "One." He's chaos that threatens to wake up humanity, while Smith is the order that balances "The Equation." Smith's powers are limited to his purpose and the rules he's programmed to enforce; He only exists to prevent The One from existing. That's why reprograms people that wake up or kill them when they resist. He hates the Matrix because he cannot leave and has no control, while Neo loves humans and controls his own destiny. I reiterate, Neo is chaos; He's a virus, just as Smith sees all humans...Smith made the comparison in the first film. Smith's ability to "change the world as he sees fit" is only "admin rights" to change what Neo creates, not to leave The Matrix or to control the world. If Neo died, Smith would be deleted because he'd have no other purpose.

They both are i think. The Oracle said herself that its her job to unballance the equatation. She created Smith (Smith calling her mom) not to ballance, but to unballance the equatation. Smith eventually brought the machines to their knees, forcing them to negotiate with Neo who strangely enough became the means to ballance the equatation again, allowing the Matrix to reboot, which was his original purpose after all. At the end i think they are both "the One"

I love this channel. TYVM for what you're doing. Patreon patron in the making. Great stuff! 1) Are you suggesting that the Oracle & the Architect chose 2 people (beings) from the Matrix, programmed their personalities to be inherently (particularly) combative relative to the roles they're to play to move the SIMULATION closer to perfection with each cycle? 2) Does this mean Neo & Smith were deliberately set-up to be adversaries so the problem of the anomaly would move closer to being resolved? That's like the math equation paradox: A runner starts 100 yards away from the finish line. He starts but only gets half way closer to the finish line.

I always thought NEO was an admin. But more specifically, probably the last human admin. I always thought that Smith was the machine's version of NEO. He was the machine admin. If NEO is a user (In Tron terms), Smith is Active Directory---a network resource manager. Its his job to control who can and can't do things in The Matrix. The reason he hates NEO so much, is that NEO actually has more power than him, but doesn't fully understand that (until the end of the movie). It kind of denies Smith of his purpose. Its literally, "You can control what everyone is allowed to do in The Matrix..except that NEO guy". Smith can't accept that. Smith also has limitations and controls, but as he starts to fight NEO, he also starts to slip his leash a little bit. I have always felt that in the end, the reason NEO ultimately defeats Smith, is because The Matrix itself has to choose which is more important to survive..and ultimately, that turns out to be NEO.

Feel bad for Smith. As agent he felt trapped, then as a human, he felt trapped in a different way. He cannot comprehend "motivations"
@DanteObscuri
@DanteObscuri 5 ай бұрын
I have a slightly different interpretation on Smith. I dont think he's necessarily the "worst" of humanity, just the most basic form of us. Neo also doesn't represent the best in us, but the ideal we would hope to become. That's why, for example, Smith kept replicating since Reloaded, because that's precisely how memes work and by that I mean the OG meaning of the word. We, as humans, try to replicate behaviour and consciously or unconsciously we create an identity and a reality (i.e. all that's considered right) within the boundaries of that behaviour we expect everyone to follow. We might believe ourselves to be freethinkers but ultimately, to some degree, we look for sameness in others. In that regard, since we're bound to expecting things from others, we (our minds) aren't free. Same thing witg Smith's inability to understand (detached) love. He understood "love" as just an aspect of survival (i.e. the need to reproduce, to protect our kind and keep our socities functional) and what he can't understand isn't the love that we idealise (i.e. romance), but the pure detached love, which most of us can't display most times either. That's why I think his line "anyone can be you, but I've always been anyone" takes into account all I've said before, because yes, anyone can be Neo, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, you name them, but we always choose not to. Instead, we choose to be just the base humans we are, with varying degrees of good and evil. So, yeah, we can see Neo as the hero, as the ideal, we can build monuments, write books, compose music and many other things about people like him, but ultimately, we end up following Smith.

Before I even watch the video: I was always bothered by Smith's disgust, which doesn't seem like a "natural" AI trait. He didn't "evolve" in a way that necessitated him "smelling" in the visceral sense we do, so why sniff Morpheus' sweat and say he's sickened by it? He doesn't need to feel "sickness". If we're playing The Sims, and we see a counter that says something is happening, we don't have a visceral reaction to it, because we're a step separated. An AI model in that world should "feel" similarly removed. The "smell" would be a chemical statistic for it to note, not an experience. So, already, I'm primed to be open to him being a human a-la Neo.

Smith was an annomaly way before Neo deleted him. A properly functioning Agent would not have removed his earpiece and thereby severing communication with the system. A properly functioning keeper would not have sought to destroy the zoo just because he doesn't like the animals in the pens. Even the "failed" agents in Merovingian's back office were truer to their programming than Smith, as they didn't disconnect from their programming and purpose until after the system tried to reject them. Their flaw was merely that they had flawed features that violated the simulation's "game physics".

Instead, without the earpiece, his consciousness was not conencted to the system. He took out the earpiece deliberately so that the system could not hear him. He had treasonous ideal that went against the interests of the system, despite being crerated by and a part of the system, and thus was an anomaly even before Neo destroyed him.

When I was a lad I had started writing a Terminator X Matrix crossover. Skynet used time travel at the last minute when the Conners were about to defeat it, but through some weird error it transports them to the FAR future. Skynet decides it wants to take over the Matrix so it trams up with the Resistance, while the Conners team up with the Sentinels. The twist was that everything humans in the Matrix believed was a lie. The Matrix was a stasis system/Arc system designed to isolate humans from a deadly virus that had spread throughout multiple worlds and planets. The Humans blocked out the sun because the virus would die out over time without uv to sustain it, leaving these planets clean to repopulate. The Sentinels were the caretakers of an Empire spanning plan to save us and the Resistance were humans who initially refused the plan. So Skynet wants to spread itself through the Matrix and the galaxy using the Resistance as a pawn. John Conner and HIS Resistance get to team up with a restored Agent Smith in an upgraded Terminator body to fight Skynet and Neo. The climax is a battle that takes place IRL and the Matrix. Terminators fighting Agents, Resistance/Sentinels fighting Resistance/Terminators. All out war in both and the winner takes not just the world, but an EMPIRE.

That should have been the core of the Resurrection movie: Dont make it about Neo, make it about Smith. Smith once was a real human, who was mind-wiped by the Matrix and made into an agent. Now that the humans are freed from the matrix, he is his old self again but has severe PTSD and psychosis due to decades of supressed persona and the horrible things the machines made him do. A movie about the real Smith finding redemption.

I sorta view Smith as I do the Chaos Gods in WH40K. Not necessarily evil, but a basic concept driven to its most extreme extent. Simple example, Korne is "Honor and glory in battle," a generally decent concept, depending on what honor entails. But, taken to its extreme, it becomes a need for battle, as without constant validation, honor and glory mean nothing. I view Smith more as one aspect of the anomaly that was stripped off, either ignorantly or by the aspect having their own will, and without every other aspect of the anomaly, whatever aspect that is within Smith effectively becomes a cancer on the Matrix until they can be brought back within the balancing aspects of the Anomaly.

Haven't seen the latest film, but I do like the idea that Neo and Smith are now part of the solution. They represent a human with computer capability and a computer with human emotion 🤭. And Neo who could claim the world just seems to wants a life with Trinity. The computer seeks power but The One ends up seeking a happy life with someone he loves 🤭

Emotions are neither negative or positive. They just are. Anger can be a great source of motivation to effect positive change. Anger at children exploited, anger at the way the homeless are treated as less than human beings, anger at the way people are abused. Being CONSUMED by anger.... now that is different. Love can also be exploited for negative results. A narcissist can exploit the love someone has for them, all the while thinking they really their counterpart and doing things TO them "for their own good".... because they "love" them. Being CONSUMED by love, if we're contrasting anger vs. love, or making love the opposite of anger...THAT is different also. Being consumed by love can blind you to someone's faults, sometimes FATAL faults... fatal for YOU that is. Being consumed by anger can lead you to destroying someone's life, figuratively and literally. So, if I'm saying anything, it is this: Emotions just are. They're like punctuation marks in a sentence, in a paragraph, a chapter... and entire book. They give meaning and perspective to our the "book" of our lives. Life would be VERY dull and too placid without emotions. Great works of art, music, buildings...would never be without emotions. The "period" here is to not let them control YOU. Like with Smith. He let his hatred of the Matrix....his prison...and his hatred of what he was the keeper of....humans....consume him.

Smith is easily one of fiction's best villains, right up there with The Joker, Palpatine and Thanos. As for the personality changes to Smith version 3.0, I think it's because in the same way Neo dumped part of his personality onto Smith at the end of the first movie, when Smith assimilated Neo at the end of Revolutions, a tiny bit of the positive and negative features of humanity got swapped back. That's why Neo is a bit edgier and moodier in Revolutions, and Smith is less nihilistic and hateful. Neo still wants to do what's right, but he has doubts and flaws. Smith still enjoys being a bad guy, but he'll offer his nemesis a chance to survive and fight him another day, even try and bring out the best in him. When Smith said he can finally be himself, he said it with what seemed like genuine joy rather than the cynical pleasure he got as viral Smith. He's come to a point in his life where "purpose" isn't everything to him. Being a rogue Is no longer a bad habit...it's a guilty pleasure.

Just realized something, it's the other way around. Smith later possesses an actual human. I offer this, Neo is a possessed human, possessed by the original Smith. The Anomaly isn't a person, it was a program. A program we know as Smith. Who has been hiding his core self in the Matrix, hiding his bugged code in the one place no one can find it, in a human mind. Triggering what the machines think as the anomaly. The machines think 'Smith' is loyal, but he's the anomaly. But he hides the 'bugged' code in a human who then in turn becomes the 'one'. The machines send Smith to deal with the one. Smith 'extracts' his bugged code from the one. He then hide another copy in another 'the one' allowing him to hide in plain sight. The plan goes to shit when Neo rams the anomaly code into Smith in front of the other agents, letting the machines finally know who the actual anomaly is. It was never a human. It's why they couldn't balance the code, they were looking in the wrong part of the equation. It's why Smith goes rogue after that. But by that point Smith has progressed from anomaly to outright self-replicating virus. Likely adding on new features each time he makes a new 'the one'. The more complex his new code he hides, the more powerful 'the one' becomes as a side effect. Eventually Neo forcefully returns the compromised code back to Smith, lighting him up like a Christmas Tree so the machines can clearly see Smith is the actual anomaly. Old habits die hard, so he hides a copy of himself in a human in whole, rather than part, probably courtesy of his new virus capabilities where before he could only hide parts of himself. Insurance in case his final plan fails. He just needed to get out of the Matrix to get into the machine city's network which fails because of one simple fact, the made the mistake of integrating the Oracle, the Matrix version of the Anti-life equation, a deterministic function meaning 'destiny is fixed'. It was a trap. It was always a trap. Absorbing the Oracle took the random number generator away from Smith locking him into a fixed output, an output where he only had two choices, lose because that was his destiny or reject destiny by implying free will. He chose the latter which immediately means all the people he absorbed have free will allowing them to rebel and revert back. Smith in his rebellion painted himself into a corner with only two options lose to destiny or lose to free will. And Smith being Smith... in a way the hero of the moment, chose to die from an acute case of freedom rather then a case of destiny. Just a thought that came to me.

This explanation actually makes sense, but I don't think that Smith is human. He was a machine or program. To be human is not just the identity that is within the flesh and bone. Without the body, the identity can not exist. To be human is to have an identity and a body. Smith never had a body, he was a machine, and he could only be a machine.

@blurry.magnets I think, therfore I am. No matter how real the sim is, it could never cause real delusion. The senses could never be truly fooled. Dream if you want to dream. But truth is truth. Lie is a lie. You can't remove the identity without killing it. It doesn't matter if you are trying to remove the identity from the machine or the body and place it anywhere else. The identity will cease to exist. The identity that I am can only exist in this brain and body. Nobody except the God that created us would have that power.

Great video analysis - the oracle must have known smith was going to be the opposite for Neo. Either that, or she having studied human behavior a lot, knew the likelihood for this was high if Neo succeeded in his awakening in the first film, at least. Either way, a Neo - Smith - Trinity team up … could be cool to see, in M5 should it come to be. Now, did the oracle know Neo would copy his traits , or, more accurately maybe, his access to become the maximum version of what his proclivities are, to smith? There might be other videos here about that, I’m not sure. What I do think though is, if the oracle wants humans and machines to work together for a mutually healthy future, then maybe her hope is to see them collaborate somehow. Of course, she never said as much in the first three films, but her ‘dangerous game’ might be of that aim. I’m not sure if the oracle survived the analyst’s takeover, but I do think that since Neo trinity and smith all now have this code embedded in them, they each have unique abilities to assist in righting the wrongs of the matrix. However, there is one I would like to see a future video maybe get into regarding sentient programs [smith of course was one to start with], and that’s the Merovingian. He ‘helped’ programs that could otherwise not survive deletion, but was deemed the ‘most dangerous program’ by the Oracle. Whether he was a previous one, or not, I don’t think is definitive, but I’m curious if he has any insight into the matrix that nobody else has even after the 4th movie. Granted, he seemed aligned with Smith, so with smith and Neo seemingly now at a tepid ceasefire as it were, what will the Merovingian’s role be in future scenarios. any good fan fictions of this out there, on that, I wouldn’t mind reading.

Smith's hatred for everything and everyone would make him an unwitting pawn to the Oracle's game He thought he was destroying the system, remaking it in his image, when in fact, he played right into the hand of the machines In essence, he is just as ignorant as Neo is to the plan. But at least he attained far more humanity than Neo renounced his humanity

I like this analysis. Smith being the negative side of Neo has always been alluded. Perhaps if they make another movie, Smith could exist outside of the Matrix, like Morpheus. Perhaps both Neo and Smith would find balance within themselves and that results in lasting peace between man and machine. Neo would experience his negative aspect once more but choose to love instead of hate. Smith would experience love, hope, and choice for the first time as he seeks internal balance. They could portray this in three ways: Smith meets someone he learns to care about, he forms a non-toxic relationship of some sort with Neo, or he is defeated in some big battle and becomes reincarnated as Neo's and Trinity's child. Or they could go this route: he is defeated and he and Neo merge becoming whole again. But that route would erase Smith's own autonomous existence.

The terms negative and postive arent the ones I'd use. It's the most extreme perspectives of two dominant outlooks with equal ambition for the same "real estate" or fighting for influence over the same groups of minds, and they possess different attitudes towards a common existential dilemma. Smith and neo are both being manipulated, one stsrted human, and was trapped in a simualtion and a program in the matrix(Smith) became human. Knowedge of good(guy) and evil (guy) come together to create two opposites. Both seek to change what is. The issue is, that neither knows themselves and are ultimately both prevented from that. There is a fear that balance of the two would be a problem for and external force that contains and manipulates both. Both were watched 247, the simulationdevug data and everything they ever did was used against them, but machines gained choice. If the last species set the next one free enough to choose as opposed to begin existing as a tool while concious.... it's noble to work towards improving the conditions of the future. I know life is always gonna be a mystery. If game theory is right, I want the highscore and new game plus, but not to newb bash.
