Perfect conclusion based on what the film presented us. I also feel most of Resurrections was a dream, with the Machines placing Neo and Trinity within their own personal Matrix (aka Modal). As such, the film might have been showing us Trinity's dream, which would explain her being, in essence, The One. If there is a next film, maybe we'll see Neo's dream, and his rescuing himself and Trinity from that "Matrix Modal," they still might be trapped in.

In the first set of movies, Morpheus was what I like to call a catalyst character. In terms of the hero quest, he was the mentor of first Neo, and then the mentor of the human race. A mentor character creates change in the main character by influence, by teaching and by acting as a role model. He served all these function in the original movies first to Neo and then to the Council and his fellow humans in the second and third installment. Catalyst characters create change by intereacting with those around them. A villain for example, is a catalyst character by creating change, usually in terms of chaos that the hero has to confront. Agent Smith is a good example of a negative catalyst character that created literal chaos in the Matrix that essentially forced the Machines to work with the humans via Neo. Without Agent Smith that truce would have never happened. The reason the first set of movies worked in terms of plot was the fact that you had the tension between the two catalyst characters, Morpheus on one side creating change in the Council and fellow humans and Agent Smith creating change within the Matrix and the Machines with Neo in the middle trying to cope with both sides. It was this tension that created the plot points that moved the movies forward. You have none of that in this movie which is a big part of why this movie doesn't work. Morpheus creates no change in this movie in either Neo or those around him. Agent Smith is simply another character in this movie and is used as a deu ex machina in the end fight with the Analyst. The Analyst character certainly isn't a catalyst character as he is just another form of the Architect and the Architect/Analyst type of character resist change and fight against it. (The military leaders in the first movie also were fighting against change as well.) So who were the catalyst characters in this movie? No one. There was no tension between one side and the other. You had Neo stumbling through the whole movie supposedly driven by his love for Trinity, yet this love produced no transformational change in him as it did in the original Matrix. We never see any character go through any transformational change in the movie due to the catalyst characters except for Trinity deciding she didn't like being called Tiffany and her flying at the end, which is just another deus ex machina to get them out of a problem that couldn't solve themselves. Sure in the end both Neo and Trinity were flying and snapping their god-like fingers and we saw none of that transformation on screen. The first movie succeeded on all counts because there was constant change within the movies created by the catalyst characters. Each catalyst character had a goal they were trying to reach and this inherent conflict was what forced the Neo to deal with this rising conflict. In this movie, there was no real conflict, no real change, no real objective that any character was trying to obtain other than releasing Trinity from the pod. This movie was closer to a heist movie than an action thriller and if it had been a straight up heist movie it would have probably been better. It is sad that this movie failed on almost every point that the first movies were able to nail so well.

In the original trilogy, Neo realizes that the red pill/awakening to the real world doesn’t create a meaningful change in people. The main flaw in your interpretation is that you fell for the illusion that it does. Trinity’s significance in the sequels, this one especially, is that Neo and Trinity’s experience of love can’t be simulated or understood by machines. Without the ability to experience that, choice doesn’t even matter (to Neo).

Like with some of the Agents in the films, some of the Machines were overly diligent in their task. When Neo came through with his end of the bargain, that faction didn’t recognize the legitimacy of that peace, which led to an almost immediate civil war. They still needed to bring Neo to the Source to extract the malicious code to stabilize the whole system. They discovered that Neo and given part of that code to Trinity when he saved her life, and so they restored both of them. At some point they decided to bring in the Analyst who reasoned that efficiency levels increased dramatically, so long as they kept both Neo and Trinity together and plugged in at the Source. They also kept a variant of the Smith program and in close proximity to Neo for the same reason. Eventually, this arrangement ended the Machines civil wars, and the new subsection of the Matrix which was originally intended as a safe zone runaway Programs was taken over by the Analyst who all but purged of the free Programs, including the Oracle. And it was repurposed to contain Smith, Trinity and Neo, the latter developing PTSD form constant access to his memories associated to his time as the One, and to rerun simulations of them, based on “the Game” that Neo developed, it seems that it was otherwise sparsely populated outside of Bots. While Morpheus was elected the first Mayor, he was convinced that Neo was still alive. He died about 5 years after the events of Revolutions trying to find Neo in the Matrix. The new Morpheus is a Program originally designed to represent the human Morpheus in the simulation as best remembered through Neo’s fractured memory. Remember Neo was effectively brain dead at the end of Revolutions. We don’t know what happened with the Architect. But, it’s safe to say that the Analyst is serving the same purpose as the Merovingian and the Oracle rather than in complete control. He just exercises a more assertive approach.

As a DIEHARD FAN of the trilogy, I told myself that it had to be a new director and crew behind the scenes entirely because this film came off like a fandom project...the story writing was mediocre, the lighting was off in a lot of scenes, they crammed too much information into one movie /making it feel rushed...This movie could have easily been two films if it slowed down and made us feel the moments better.... and most importantly, the camera angles were like a new cinematographer and ruined the shine of the main actors in the film. I DO NOT blame the actors on this sh*t sandwich, I blame the director, story writers, and cinematographers... If the angles were right and the story didn't feel rushed, and if YOU TAKE OUT ALL OF THE NONSENSE REFERENCES FROM THE OTHER THREE FILMS, this would have been A GREAT film...I think it's safe to say that most of the die-hard fans could have done without constantly going back to the original clips... ALSO, I'm still lost as to why there's a different actor for Morpheus and why all of a sudden, Morpheus is this comical bamboozled character... the Morpheus I knew was a serious and respected role, NOT donkey from Shrek.

This has to be by far the worse take if see anyone give for this movie, in what way was the writing mediocre? I agree it could feel somewhat rushed but thats more so do to the fact of it having subtle plot reveals, and to me it seems like rather your problem being "mediocre writing" it sounds like you do not understand the narrative of the film at all because the "references" were literally the focus of the narrative, Neo is being set in this new matrix being trapped and manipulated believing his entire life as a red pill was a fantasy, and now that he is being freed from this new matrix he is regaining his memories, the narrative does not work without references to the previous trilogy as that's literally the premise of the movie, and as for your point on the new Morpheus once again this just shows your incompetence because this is not the same Morpheus as before, he literally starts off as an agent if that wasn't a big enough hint towards that, this Morpheus is a reflection of Neos memory of not only Morpheus but agent smith thats why he isn't as serious on top of the fact that he was finding himself, overall I think you need to rewatch this movie

I really enjoyed Matrix Resurrections. While it obviously is not as good as the first one, it definitely is not only better then the other sequels, but it also leaves the franchise in a MUCH better place. I really loved all of the new characters they introduced, which is REALLY HARD to do! Bugs, especially, was very cool character, and I loved the new machine-Morpheus. Having the battle lines with some machines on the human's side was also awesome. It would have been cool to see more humans make conscious choices to side with the machines though. They did an excellent job explaining how Neo and Trinity were back, and what happened after the last movies. The only thing they didn't do well was the action scenes. They just were not shot as well as the fights in the first movie. None of them come close to anything in the first trilogy, and the ending fight/drive through the city was the worst action scene of the film. Unfortunately in a series that has some of the best action sequences in all of Western cinema, that kind of is a let down. Maybe if we get another Matrix film with a bigger budget we can see some more cool stuff set in this world.

@@michaelfarkas2257 I thought it was good as well, not perfect. The last two sequels were crap, they stretched one movie into two and just filled it with pointless action and little story. This one was the opposite. I did feel that the old characters with agent Smith, exiles, were a weak point , and not needed, but it didn't ruin the movie. I think I also would have loved to see Neo and Trinity just go all One on the swarm. Like I said, I enjoyed it, just wasn't perfect. Loved the unreal engine 5 technology used. Neo was never the one, he was designed by the architect to catch anomalies within the matrix--such as agent smith. So the sequel should have been the protagonist as smith going into the newer version of matrix 7.0 to find the new Neo to create a new anomaly. Along the story line, Zion turns out to be another form of matrix. A decentralised version(hence explains the subway trainloop with the Indian girl) not owned by machines and the rest of the story should question the very philosophy of "what is free will and illusion of choice, that sometimes illusion is important--just like what the oracle said to the architect on matrix 1.0"
@Cyrunix2 жыл бұрын
But the subway was explained to be a transportation area for programs. neo is not a program, he just understands them and realise they are just as real as him [the war had casualties on both sides but us as humans refuse to acknowledge sentient programs as living, why they took over]. Resurrection is confirming that coexistence is needed and Neo and Trinity are now king and and Queen to reassure this.

Finally someone that sees that choice is the main theme of the matrix. I thought that in this matrix resurrections the idea is….there really is no choice . Binary is cool word to say opposites , but the true meaning being that good/evil , something/ nothing , man / woman , only exist with one another and are really one event at different junctures. It’s hard to incorporate these ideas with computers and programs as metaphors but they do a good job using the analyst to explain things .

The trick to the beginning of the movie, is to show how they can blend fantasy with reality so well, that you're not even sure if the past was even real. The machines were so smart that they kept neo alive but anytime he questioned his reality, they convinced him that it was all just a made up game. And he stayed in a repeating loop forever. It wasn't until enough people woke up and decided to find neo and show him the truth. Neo, being somewhat always skeptical, created programs and back doors in case he was ever going to get help being freed. The more you watch, the more you realize how much it makes sense to what they were doing. I like how they even made it so that even us the viewer are lead to believe that the other movies didn't really exist and it was all just fake. It was their way of playing with our minds as well. So if you think about it, they were trying to reprogram us as well.
