I totally agree with you on the stats. They can be misleading. Just because a player isn't getting interceptions, sacks, or passes defensed doesn't mean they aren't impacting the passing game. By getting in the QB's window, as you illustrated, and taking those options away, you are causing the QB to look elsewhere. That might not appear on the stat sheet, but it will be in the film room. And it has a huge impact on the defense.

I agree. Roquan Smith takes away pass options from the QB's with extreme expertise. I hope Trenton Simpson can soak up much from Agent Zero. I think there is more upside with this duo than was with PQ and I think Trenton will make a big splash in 2024.

ILB would be a hard sell to put someone in that slot who has a build closer to a CB or SS, because usually they are dealing with run defense first. With OLB the line's gotten real blurry thanks to incredibly athletic TE's (Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, Gronk, etc.) and most teams running a baseline 1RB, 3WR, 1TE sets. Think it also comes down to defensive alignment as well. You might be able to get away with a more pass-focused ILB in a 3-4 for example, since you have two ILB's and hopefully your 3 DL's can handle stuffing the run lanes, but in something like a 4-3 you almost have to have some kind of two-way enforcer at the MLB position.

We're not going to spend money on two ILB's, if that was the case we would have just paid to keep PQ. People have been very high on Trenton Simpson this off-season, and the fact that he's in that starting slot at the moment shows the Ravens have some faith in the draft pick. It also helps that Josh Ross is back from injury after he was making a major push to start last year himself with how well he played during camp and pre-season. I think ILB won't be much of an issue for us.

Nobody talks about that you are right because QBs can't go that way and they have to go to their 2nd read or hot route and by that time he has pressure on them, but none of that is in a box score but guys who plays know.

They didn't have a choice, they weren't going to pay to keep him and his contract was up, they at least got something before he just walked on his own. That said, yes he landed in pretty much the perfect team for him. We don't feel right without a dominant leadership presence in the middle and we'd been missing that since Ray retired. Match made in heaven basically.
