Going to the Arctic of Finland was an amazing and cold experience, enjoy the video! What I learned is that as long as you keep moving -25 Celcius is not that bad. I was in fact sweating at times. However when resting you need something very warm, such as a down feather sleeping bag.

I was a Boy Scout Leader and Trainer for 40 years and winter snow shelters were fairly common with us. We simply shoveled snow into a large pile and waited a couple of hours so a crust formed. We then hollowed out the inside and left a round doorway which was filled at night with a garbage bag full of snow. This method was so air tight a small vent hole was necessary if you planned to keep a candle going all night. The inside of the shelter stayed just above 0 degree C. The outside weather could be blizzard conditions but inside was silent and warm. A bale of wheat straw could be put down for flooring. Two or three to a shelter and it was a comfortable night. That method doesn't require any tree cutting or building supports of any kind and the labor is less in the building of it than trying to stick build a roof.

Crazy without snowshoes and a saw. I mean if you are going to haul a bunch of stuff in order to survive a cold night, a better shelter and food are in order. Luke from the Outdoor Boys knows how to winter camp in serious style (by comparison).
