The photos looked better than I thought they would. Hope to try my Ilford Sprite II next week, although I love the look of the red Agfa. (I often buy cameras based on aesthetics and design.)
@theoldcameraguy2 жыл бұрын
I’m a sucker for red cameras, but that Sprite in black is a good look too and will give identical results.

Many old snapshot cameras had viewfinders that gave a tighter view to compensate for the "cut-off head" problem that plagued the family picture taker. Give them a tighter image in the viewfinder and then add lots of cushion around the edge of the frame on the negative itself, and they'll be satisfied with their snapshot of Aunt Tillie.
@theoldcameraguy2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve been guilty of cutting off a few heads in the past haha.

I have my Agfa Photo camera for over a year. I have gotten some really nice shots with mine. I have a sprocket Rocket also another interesting fun camera and recently a Holga 120N

Yeah, I saw your collection featured in a video. All three of these are pretty cool. I got my Agfa last year for Christmas. I need another camera like I need another hole in my head, but I’m thinking about picking up one of those Lomography Apparat cameras in the new year.

@@theoldcameraguy I'm with you, it is a bit of an addiction. I shot film for many years staring in the early 1970's . Stopped when digi cams reached 5 mega pixels and 3 yrs. ago I started shooting film again and have since acquired quite a few film cameras and I know I'm not done😊

There is also the Ilford Harman 35mm Camera kit, that comes with 2 rolls of Kentmere Pan400 and is only slightly more expensive, than the AGFA version. Very nice results in my opinion, but I think that does have a lot to do with the photographer. Understanding the limitations of a camera like this and knowing how to make the camera produce the best photos possible makes a lot of difference.
@theoldcameraguy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks - Yes the Ilford Hartman kit is another good starter set.

As always a great video. I think you have a fantastic eye for compositions and that's what lets you overcome some of the limitations of these cameras you use.
@theoldcameraguy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man - with these cheap cameras, composition is about all you have any control over.

I have a similar camera and it’s funny and simple, but there have been problems using the camera. When I shoot and advance the film, the spool on the left doesn’t spin. When I was shooting the first film, the counter suddenly reset. However, photos were fine. I may have pressed the rewind button while carrying the camera. Now I’m shooting the second roll of film and I cannot wait to see what phots will be like.

These new modern reusable 35mm film cameras seem like a version of the old 126 cameras that were cheap but reliable cameras that were around for years And only really disappeared when 126 films stopped being produced Because 35mm had become the dominant format

Great overview! I agree with your comparisons, it looks like it sits right around the pack with the Sprite and Kodak M cameras. Also, you came away with some neat shots from that roll of Arista. 🙂

Not sure if I'm ready to upgrade to this next of retro styling just yet! Though the tones are great on that Foma 400. I'm very bias in the direction of Agfa APX and Ilford film stock but I do like Foma paper. But you know these LiFo images from Dianas and plastic camera have an appeal from printing in the darkroom especially on Lith too.
@theoldcameraguy2 жыл бұрын
I’ve still never shot Agfa APX. By the way, you’ve been killing it with your Lith series - Well done!
@GavinLyonsCreates2 жыл бұрын
@@theoldcameraguy Thank you! Agfa APX is cheap at least here, I believe it's made by Harmon Technologies. It's the same as Kentmere 100, Ilford PAN 100, Rollei RPX 100 and CHM 100.

Nice one. The images were better than I expected! The Arista film really enhances the lo-fi vibe of the camera. It might be a pedestrian friendly camera for some unique street photography… 🤔

I previoslusly used cheap throw away camera's to get some fun extra vacation pictures and recently upgraded to the Agfa! I did sometimes have a problem where the picture wasn't centered as I had hoped for and included more of the view than I thought. How do I compensate for the inaccurate viewfinder?
@theoldcameraguy Жыл бұрын
You just have to use your best estimate based on your first roll. I try to study the results of the first roll and compensate from that. It may not be perfect, but once you see how the first roll came out, the second roll should be better.

I have the Sprite 35II which is (i think) the same camera. I was fiddling with the flash button and noticed that when turned on, it looks like a bigger aperture is rotated into use. i wonder if the AGFA is the same, and i wonder about using without a battery and then having 2 f-stops... great photos and i love your videos
@theoldcameraguy2 жыл бұрын
Interesting - I only used the flash on one shot and didn’t look to see what the aperture was doing. Sure looks like this Agfa and the Sprite have the same guts
@cdl02 жыл бұрын
Another possibility is that the flash mode changes the shutter speed. I have one very simple old camera which does this.
@aengusmacnaughton1375 Жыл бұрын
One thing that often does not seem to add up with these modern fixed-focus, point-and-shoot cameras -- the default exposure. So it's f9 at 1/120 shutter -- merging that into Sunny 16 -- that should overexpose ISO 100 film on a sunny day, and maybe be OK (or a tad over) on a slightly cloudy day. Yet Agfa says to use ISO 200/400/800 -- and your ISO 400 film looked well exposed with overcast and a tad over with a mix of clouds and sun. Yet with f9 and 1/120 shutter, ISO 400 should be a few stops overexposed. Many other similar cameras never seem to add up (to me anyway!) with the recommended film and the claimed lens aperture and shutter speed. And of course I am using expired ISO 400 film (unknown age, definitely not cold-stored) to test mine out, so it's all out the window anyway!!! I'll try to get shots in all conditions and with the flash some also.

I grossly overexposed my first roll with the Kodak Ektar H35 half frame camera by using 400 speed film on a sunny day - user error

Hello! I have used this camera for the first time, was very enthusiastic about it. When developing the film, some picture weren't taken. Some parts of the film were blank. Even when taken in normal daylight (other pictures in same atmosphere did develop) have you ever experienced that? Is it a camera malfunction or did I do something wrong? I used the camera tje same way each time. Thanks!

hello, this was a very informative video thank youu!! I had a question and it would be great if you could perhaps help me with it: I just put my film in the Agfa Film camera (the same as mentioned in this video) but it is not working, and I have ended up rolling a little more of film in the camera, it gets stuck i guess :( Could you help me out as to what I should do now?
@theoldcameraguy Жыл бұрын
Sorry I don’t have a helpful suggestion other than take the roll out and try to load it again. You may have to either contact Agfa or take it back to where you got it.
@AndrewWaltonPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Not a bad little camera for the money. The noise rewinding the film didn't inspire confidence, it sounded like it was tearing through the sprockets, the Pop Cam I just reviewed was the same. The images didn't look too bad for a plastic lens.

Hi, I just got my scans from my first roll with this camera. I'm brand new to analog photo, this is my first 35 film shot. More than half of my roll is ruined with light leaks. I did some mistakes probably with exposing the roll to lights but also is it possible that my brand new agfa camera has lights leaks ? how to find out before loosing many other rolls ? Should I blame the light leaks on development too ? Quite sad for loosing my shots but will do better next time for sure. Just wonder if it all depends on my mistakes only :x
@theoldcameraguy Жыл бұрын
It is possible that your camera has light leaks, but the Agfa build quality is pretty good. Light leaks can happen during the development process too. I would suggest loading the film into the camera in subdued/low lighting. You can always use black tape to tape up the camera too.

It could be a faulty frame counter, but usually, it is the film not being loaded correctly which causes this.
