Agfa Optima 1 english version

One of my viewers asked me to do an english version of my Agfa Optima video. So I made this vid real quick. Hope it helps a little bit. I did not use much time for editing. And please excuse my english, I´m out of practice. Have fun and shoot film. :-)

Great clip which helped me. The camera is not “Optima 1”. It’s actually just “Optima”. The Optima 1 came out after this one. You mentioned adjusting the ISO - there’s a groove in the dial so you can use a coin to turn it. The shot counter is at back of camera at bottom but I haven’t figured out how to turn that yet.

Hi I realized it after developing my role of film, cause some pictures were extreamly underexposed in bright light. Thanks for you're comment. Merry Chrismas

Nice styling camera, very 50s. Unfortunately these old Selenium cell auto cameras are unuseable if it is not working well.

I'm not sure which model of Agfa Optima yours is, but I've got the Optima 1 right next to me as I type this and it has fewer features. Mine has the Agfa Color Agnar lens (written in white on the front of the lens - it also says Prontor Lux on top of the lens where the film speeds of 10 - 200 are located), the shutter lever is the same type as your exposure meter lever (which mine does not have) but on the opposite side of the lens.

Hello Paul you are right. My one was not the model 1 it must have been model 3. I sold it a few weeks ago. Hope yours is in a good working order, witch mine was not. Best regards Jens

The model in this video is “Agfa Optima”. It came out 1959 and was the first fully automatic 35mm camera. In 1959 there were 6 different brand/models that came out with fully automatic cameras and this was the first. The “Optima 1” came out in the 1960s.

Hi! I also have this type of camera, but when I push the button to get the roll for the film up it doesn’t work and I was wondering do you think it’s possible to fix? Is it worth it?

Thanks for your comment. If its the opening mechanism for the backdoor a fix might be possible. If the film transport ist broken a fix might be more expansive than the camera. Best regards Jens

Hi Betty, it depends what is wrong with your camera? In my exemplare the lightmeter doesnt work. Its not worth repairing. If you have mecanical issues is it also not worth it. You can find these models cheap in fleamarkets. The pictures come out realy soft. BR Jens

I'm completely new to film photography and recently got the same camera at a market but haven't had a chance yet to check if the selenium meter is working. Is there any chance of getting the exposure settings correct without the meter (e.g by using an app to give you correct settings which one could manually adjust) or should I look for a different film camera if it doesn't?

@@angelinakubica4949 Hi Angelina, if your lightmeter doesnt work, you can get arround to use the flashmode. I think you can set the aperture, the time will stay at a 30th of a sec. If you wanna be more flexible, take a mechanical slr. Best regards Jens
