Very insightful video. I'm a very experienced large breed dog owner with my first Dogo and she's awesome. 11 mos old, she's already over 100 pounds. She's a real lovebug, great with kids and friendly to all people. She's good with her pack, which includes a GSD, Boxer/Bulldog, and a CAtahoula/Bulldog outside, three Chihuahuas inside. I leave on a large rural farm with acres and acres of woods and fields and no close neighbors. We are working on socialization, and she's very good until another dog shows up. Then she's anywhere from interested to completely unglued. She's definitely getting better the more she sees dogs in public, I don't let her focus on them and keep her moving. As I said, she's great with the little dogs but gets fixated on our cat. I am going to try the e-collar, which worked well on the Boxer/Bulldog. Trudy is the best woods companion I've had yet, she accepts me as alpha and really chose me as her person, though loves my wife, as well. Since we have no close neighbors and have hundreds of acres for her to roam, we let her--and all the outside dogs--run free. It's dog heaven, and the three bully breeds make their round as a pack. When it's just me and Trudy walking through the woods, she stays near me, which the other dogs don't. She's just awesome dog, special, but I worry about the dog aggression and the cat. Any tips would be great. BTW, Trudy is extremely food driven, more than any dog I've ever had. When I take her in Home Depot and we run into another dog, I carry treats and keep her moving, don't allow her to focus on the other dog. But if she were to lunge, my wife couldn't handle her, she's so strong. You are the most informative and REAL dogo video I've read, and I appreciate it. Your Dogos look great and I thank you for the real talk.

I raised my dog baron he was a puppy. he was never neutered. I don't know if that was the problem. But it seems that he has the sentence violence towards me. I am the man of the house along with my wife and son. The first time Barron bit me I have two dogs, Chihuahua and Baron DOGGO ARGENTINO. Baron went to take CHARLIE's bone and I pushed him away when I did that he attacked me and bit my face drawing blood. I gave him a pass. The second time. Baron was in my bed. Perhaps that was the problem we let him sleep in our bed. Came home late from work early in the morning hours and went to push him out of my bed because he was in my spot and he went full attack on me. I needed plastic surgery to close the stitches in my face wound in my face I should say. If I lay on the floor baron Will come on top of me and get aggressive with me and try to attack me if I'm in that position. On the other hand. He can be very affectionate he will crawl himself on my lap. He will lick my face to death and show me lots of love I just don't understand why out of the blue he goes to try to kill me. Could it be perhaps he just is jealous of my relationship with my wife because it usually happens but not always when I go to my wife or around my wife the last straw. Barron was in the kitchen. My wife just took him for a walk. I called him like I normally do to come up on the chair so I can kiss him on his cheeks, instead, Barron leaned against me. I went to push him away because he was growling, and he immediately attacked me full, bore ripping my right arm to shreds requiring lots of stitches. He did not initially want to come with me, and it was about feeding time. I don't know if that was what caused it. But since he was a puppy, we gave him so much love and attention perhaps too much? I don't understand why this dog has rage syndrome.

Just got a 9 month dogo from a girl I worked with who had to move home and couldn’t keep him. He is awesome I’ve been exercising him a lot which has been good for the other dogs as well and he’s been fitting into the family seamlessly he was a little mouthy but after a couple days that’s dropped immensely, my father was a k9 officer same I think I’m equipped to have a balanced dogo that I’ve fallen for too hard this quickly.

I get it, I brought home my first Dogo at 8 weeks (chosen from a litter of 13, both parents on site), now she's almost a year, 120 pounds of love and muscle. I've had, and have, lots of dogs, nothing like this dog. She stands alone, loyal to her pack, great with kids and people, scent hunter, sight hunter, determined, powerful, smart, strong, and knows no fear. she loves everybody, but I'm her person, she wants to be with me and sticks with me in the woods. That's no small thing, if someone with ill intent was creeping around, she'd be aware of it before me, and her being white I can keep good track of her. I've already taught her to hunt for shed antlers. She brought home a perfect 5-point antler and then the next day brought home the matching pair, which never happens. If you do the research on what breeds make up the Dogo--and why--you can really find every trait they bred into them. Like, the Irish Wolfhound brought temperament and sight hound skills; the Pointer provided an excellent sense of smell. That's a helluva combination. Four bulldog breeds run through the DNA of the Dogo, and they bring courage, loyalty, tenacity, fierceness when needed, and a good, happy nature. Great Danes contribute height, and the Boxer athleticism. French Mastiff the right jaw, Mastiff the bravery, protective instincts, and noble carriage (without the slobber). The Great Pyrenees added height and protective instincts, as well as color. The Bull Terrier brought the white color, as well, and that distinctive head. French Mastiff, the strong jaw and good head. Finally, the English Bulldog contributed powerful jaws and the indomitable courage. The basis of the breed was the now-extinct Cordoba Fighting Dog, an impressive dog and a true beast, but fighting won't do for a pack-hunter. Bear in mind, the Martinez brothers chose the best possible dogs from each breed, with the most desirable traits, and worked on it for 20 years. Their journals are a fascinating read, like they created this ultimate dog gumbo with the exact traits they wanted: a tough, tenacious dog capable of taking on pumas and boars in rough terrain, then come home and hang around the family and get along with other dogs. I don't know of any AKC recognized breed like the Dogo. I've had some 20 great dogs in my life, and still have a bunch of great ones. NOTHING compares to the mighty Dogo Argentino. You have to be strong and make sure she respects you, she is a handful, nearly drove my wife crazy through puppyhood. But once they bond and learn they can't do whatever they want, they are super affectionate and aim to please. Trudy is still a work in progress, but I LOVE this dog. I see so-called experts saying a first-time dog owner should never purchase a Dogo, I disagree. You have to start somewhere, just be prepared to do the work, earn their respect, and you will have a great dog. I wish I had a Dogo 20 years ago. I'm still a lover of German Shepherds, they stay home and are fantastic dogs, I'll always own one, but I've seen NOTHING like this Dogo.

How do you travel (specifically drive) with your multiple dogs? Do you crate or harness them? Are any of them protective aggressive in the car?
@DogoArgentinoUSA4 жыл бұрын
We have trained them to load into the car/suv. We don’t crate/harness them but doing so is far, far, far better for the protection of everyone involved; we honestly just don’t because we can’t fit 3 crates in our suv and have no attachment point for harnesses with the seats down flat. They have at worst barked but generally simply give mean-eye stares to other dogs; people they rarely notice unless that person is yelling and even then they are merely alert.

@DogoArgentinoUSA4 жыл бұрын
I recommend you ask your friend why he/she is allowing the DA to show repeated aggression towards people. This is unacceptable and frankly irresponsible. The Owner is definitely not taking an Alpha pack leader role. The DA is unlikely to change behaviors if the Owner is tolerating the unwanted behavior. The Owner should seek professional help immediately before the DA mauls a person.

I believe my Dogo is suffering from his prey drive. We have a gated front courtyard that we let him hang out in and there are constantly cats around and he can't get them. We've started to keep him in the back but the Problem is he has shown that aggression towards us. He has been a great dog with the family and this has really just started happening. It's heartbreaking because I'm worried we'll have to surrender him which more than likely not end well. I have a young daughter and now I can't trust him. I'm taking him to a trainer tomorrow and hope we can work something out. If I have to board him I will. It just caught me off guard because he has been so good with us. He recognizes me as the alpha but I just can't trust him right now around my family. I hope the training can help. He has become unpredictable, although I can tell by his body language that he isn't comfortable, I just can't believe how it happened so suddenly. These are great dogs but I guess this can happen when you get a dog with these innate instincts.

Hello. Just wanting your advise. We bought a dogo female,(mask, pet ) and the breeder told us to get her spade between 6 & 7 months old because she will get aggressive. Your thoughts please?
@DogoArgentinoUSA4 жыл бұрын
My opinion is that is patently untrue. Sterilization stops breeding/heat; socialization/exercise/obedience training stops aggression. Early spay poses many many lifelong health risks including an increased likelihood of abnormal bone growth; hip dysplasia; CCL injury; bone cancer, urinary incontinence and more. Don’t take my word for it - google the “risks of early spaying” and make your own mind up after you’ve researched this.

That is so unfortunate (her not socializing the litter). It makes a lifelong difference in dogs and yes it’s very time consuming (imagine 15 minutes a day X the number of pups) but it really changes the way pups interact with humans. A Breeder who doesn’t do this foundational work should be honest with new owners (like “hey such-and-such had a serious health issue and I didn’t socialize so you need to do such-and-such”). Our dear friends have a DA (not from me) and the poor thing was literally raised in a barn with little contact with people, he couldn’t walk up stairs) -- let’s say he needed work when he was brought home!
@jodigutknecht8714 жыл бұрын
@@DogoArgentinoUSA I understand her not working with her litters, she says this of her adults. She said she never has more than one dogo in the house of the same sex at a time or they fight. We will let our girl meet every creature we can as early as possible. Training is my cup of tea. Just want to do what's right for our pup.
@DogoArgentinoUSA4 жыл бұрын
Jodi Gutknecht Adult sexually mature in tact dogs of any breed can potentially jockey for pack dominance in reference to breeding opportunities (but not always) but this is separate than being aggressive across the board. This breeding behavior can be intensified when in tact animals of both gender coexist (as in my own home) during mating season. Now if breeding isn’t on your radar, spaying after two years is less dangerous than before that age because the bones are fully mature. If breeding is on your radar you want to socialize/exercise/obedience train early, often and on going; you do want to be able to separate animals during mating season and double the exercise during that time.

My Dogo never had any aggression issues for humans and has been friendly with almost everyone. Just last week though, he sort of attacked my 2 years old nephew( thankfully nothing extreme happened). My nephew was just minding his own business and didn’t even touch him. You reckon this could be a case of jealousy or insecurity as I play with my nephew quite a lot. Never ignored my dogo though and always made sure he feels a part of the family. I’m just so out of ideas as this could have been fatal, any reasoning for such behaviour?
@DogoArgentinoUSA4 жыл бұрын
All DAs, in fact all large dogs, are physically capable of fatal mauling in the blink of an eye. Normally there are many signals that most people don’t recognize immediately prior to violence (UNLESS the DA was poorly bred resulting in mental instabilities or it’s sick). Your DA now has a human bite-history making it virtually guaranteed it cannot be rehomed if surrendered and you must now consider it a dangerous dog. There are many reasons dogs bite and I cannot begin to guess why given I wasn’t there and don’t know you or your dog. Could it happen again? Absolutely yes. Will it? I wouldn’t take the chance if it were me. There’s two paths to altering behavior: management (eliminating opportunity) and training (altering responses). You need both. I strongly recommend you never allow the DA access to children AND I suggest you work with a one-on-one behaviorist specifically on human aggression including biting. Good luck.🍀

Our Dogo has been attacked TWICE - once by a full grown German Sheppard when he was only 7 months and once by a Husky. Now, every time he comes across that breed, if they show aggression towards him - he goes "wild." We have him socialized, extremely friendly with family and kids...but when he crosses paths with a Husky or the German Sheppard that attacked him .....he goes bananas. No way would I ever recommend this breed to a person who doesn't have the firmness to control such a dominant breed. His strength is almost scary. Another observation: Our Dogo can be a little stubborn when the command is soft spoken. Soon as I raise my voice and convey my firmness, he complies without hesitation.

My doggo Is a sweetheart with other animals He loves other dogs.We just recently added a little Chihuahua that's 9 weeks old with Baron and he's like a doting dad. The little Chihuahua is very aggressive tries to take his bone with meat on it will hang on his jowls and Baron will just simply get annoyed you might hear him complain with moans but he will not show his teeth nor bite the little dog and we trust him around Charlie long-coated Chihuahua pup.however if someone comes to our door to the house we must restrain him.He has to be put into the kennel no matter what no matter who visits the house or he will attack them.I had a scare the other day with the electronic collar on him My neighbor was putting his trash out and my dog ran the whole two acres of my yard and tried to rip my neighbor apart thank God I had the electric Collor. The thing is he never did that before I don't know why he did that.but I will not let him around anybody who comes to my home or if neighbors are nearby he will be leashed no matter what.If anyone attempts to come to my car with my wife in it he wants to rip their head off. Several foolish people have tried to actually pet my dog through the crack in the window my wife had to quickly rebuff them and say that he's an attack dog. But before she could speak Barron scares them away with his monstrous bark and growl.they're amazing home protectors and they're very loving with their family but as far and being friendly with other people watch out you have to be very careful with strangers around My dog is okay with people out in the public if they're walking dogs or walking by. He won't lunge at other people or try to attack them. He is only really aggressive when someone comes to the car, or to my home and rings the doorbell and wants to come in. When someone comes to our home let's say a repairman and such.We must put him in the kennel and lock him away. After the person leaves.Baron is like a lion will run up the stairs barking and growling going into every room and smelling looking for him. It's an amazing watchdog.but you must be very very very careful with these dogs and be very responsible. One time at night when I had Baron outside. There was a fox I could see him in the woods with my flashlight.I don't know what the fox was thinking but he actually was coming towards my dog perhaps he thought he was a small dog. The Fox was actually stalking my dog lol.as soon as Baron caught his scent he charged right at him You never saw a fox run so fast. And then in my backyard I had a light show I had my light shining on the Fox's eyes and Baron quickly behind him running zig-zags with the fox.Baron ran off my property I chased after him screaming I put up my e-collar to 100 and I had to zap him threevor four times for him to respond.his prey drive was so high he did not even care about the shock he was getting from the collar. I have been working with him more and more off leash and he's getting a lot better now and responding more to my verbal commands.But doggie can be very stubborn, when they want to do something they know very much what you want of them, but they will not respond if they don't feel like.It is only the e-color that they will respond to photos.app.goo.gl/nGJNBtBkXW6ae78E9

My Dogo climbs up in the FedEx van, one guy made the mistake of giving her a treat, now she expects it. No barking, just wagging and climbing up in the van. She does have a bad habit of jumping on people to lick their faces, working on that. But I'd take that over aggression any day.

Can’t decide between the Dogo, Cane Corso or Presa! 😫

Hi there. Go meet the breeds! That helps
@nayemalfaysal70483 жыл бұрын
I think you shouldn’t' choice Presa Canario. Reasons...... 1)Presa Canario's intelligence is very very low. 2)Presa is very very hard to handle. 3)Presa is very independent. So, it is very hard to train. 4)Presa can't be a good family dog.Suppose you have 5 family members. Presa will obey only one. ***So, you should choice Cane Corso or Dogo Argentino. But if you are 3-4 time dog owner like Rottweiler,pittbull,Doberman etc you can own a Presa. But remember, Presa Canario is't an intelligent bread.

How do you feel about slobber? I recommend Dogo if you have room to run, German Shepherds are incredible dogs but shed a lot.

It's the hardest thing I've had to teach mine. She gets on something, she don't hear you. What has helped is, every time she comes to you, give her a treat. It doesn't help to scold or spank a dog when she finally comes to you, opposite message you want to send.

I actually think the more noticeable sign of aggression is posture. However, you need to know what you’re looking at and look at the correct time.

I saved a 6 month female dogo she's 7 months now I gave her a bone first 3 times I took the bone evevry like 10 mins so she knows who's boss, she kinda lunged for it the 4th time I pined her neck down looked dher in yhe eyes an waited till she's calm and sent her straight to bed buy telling her firmly, her father is aggressive I found out only the family father could go near it, she had always been sweet and a lazy couch potato, did I do to much I don't want her be scared of me.

Tough call but sounds about right. We always handle our dogs and their food from puppyhood and never had an issue. And we also always keep food available in several dishes so they can eat separately. Some people advise against that, but none of my dogs are overweight, and with four big dogs I've found it is best to not let them get too hungry. They know that food is always around so there is no urgency around feeding time. They can eat whenever they want to, and it works out. Now treats are a different story, excellent motivator. I swear by my feeding model, but then again, my dogs live on a farm and get plenty of exercise. They can run straight up a hill that I can barely walk up and barely breath hard. They are physical specimens. Well, three of them are. My older German Shepherd stays home, as did her brother before. If you want a dog that will stay near the house, the German Shepherds are king. I'm fortunate to have several hundred acres of woods for the other three to explore, swim in the ponds, it's dog heaven. They chase coyotes, and whatever, every day, twice a day at least.

Once again, a very informative video! Thank you very much for uploading it. I have one question though. You say that dogo argentinos "play hard" and that there are often small puncture wounds as a result of them playing with each other. Does that mean that dogo argentinos cannot be brought to dog parks since most people would not understand that this is just playing? Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

@@DogoArgentinoUSA, Thank you very much for the very quick reply. By the way, whether one can go to the dog park with a dog is not a criterion on which I would base my decision which dog breed or individual dog to choose. I asked the question to get a better picture of the character of the dogo argentino breed.
@DogoArgentinoUSA4 жыл бұрын
John Smith The problem with dog parks is multifaceted. 1. Most owners are uneducated regarding dog body language leading to misreading signs of stress, aggression and mental state. 2. Many owners ignore their dogs while on their phones meaning entirely avoidable situations escalate. 3. One never knows the health (vaccination, parasite, disease ) status of the participants. 4. Dog-to-dog aggression is common, genetic and in some cases unavoidable. In the wild a strange dog entering a territory can end in a dog fight. 5. Many if not most large dogs will see a DA as a dangerous predator and immediately react hostilely even if the DA is calm.

@@DogoArgentinoUSA, Thank you very much for your very informative reply. What I found very surprising is that "[o]ne never knows the health (vaccination, parasite, disease ) status of the participants." In this day and age!
@DogoArgentinoUSA4 жыл бұрын
John Smith Unfortunately not everyone takes the same care with their dogs. If they did I wouldn’t routinely see rescue DAs requesting donations to help treat heart worms which are easily avoided if you pay for monthly meds. Heck fleas alone are a thing at dog parks. Visiting a dog park is a hotbed for disease like parvo! Lots of people own dogs but don’t provide them any vet care whatsoever 😣😣😣

can a dogo argentino respect another smaller size dog if he is taught to do so?
@DogoArgentinoUSA4 жыл бұрын
If raised together a Dogo will often be very protective and loving. However if the smaller one challenges the Dogo, especially once sexually mature, that can go awry. It depends on the leadership in the home and the particular dogs.
@RidgeRunner-lz5ko Жыл бұрын
In my experience, yes. We have three small chihuahuas, one of them only 3 pounds, and our Dogo loves them and considers them part of the pack. We got the Dogo and the smallest Chi the same weekend, one from Texas, the other from Tennessee. The little chi is white, too, we tell people they are from the same litter. One thing we had to watch though was when the Dogo was still a puppy she was too rough with the Chihuahua, she'd put her foot on her and such, nothing intentional or mean. Once she learned she needed to be careful she stopped and they get along great now.

I'm on my third dogo they are very protective of my grandchildren when my first one passed away the household was in sorrow my third one is three years old got him when he was mistreated for his first year, by his owner got him home to the farm from day one he was the best friend for all my grandchildren too the youngest 2 years old , attacked one of my farm workers for hitting my granddaughter made mince meat out of his hand left him and went to my granddaughter stood by her side looking at the farm hand and growling they are very protective of their family, incredibly the only breed that I would have are dogo's and they are going to outlaw them here in Egypt
@DogoArgentinoUSA Жыл бұрын
They are extremely protective of their family. They are also frequently suspicious of strangers. It is very important that they are obedience, trained and socialized early, often, and regularly.
