In ancient times people made up stories to explain why we are and what we are without any actual facts. Look at what the Christians did to Scientists throughout the ages. Its Santa. The grief that kids feel when they are told, "santa a lie. There is no magic in the world" Its scaled up to adults. You are removing a very crucial block of how they understand the world out from under them. And unlike a child, that only needs to rethink 5-7 years of their life... We are talking decades of life that now have to be rethought. Everyone who has died in their life...dies for REAL now. Every moment where they felt alone...they were alone. Every interview, surgery, airplane flight they prayed on and everything worked out okay...was chance and probability. That is a traumatizing thought for a human to experience. See, that's how it went down for me as a child. Non-religious parents, super religious grandmother, went to her church, etc, but questions came up and I could see they made her and others uncomfortable and I never really got answers, so I went on and I explored other religions and found the same questions, same lack of answers and was like, welp, they're all on the same footing here, which means it's impossible to choose one which means none of them can really be the 'true' one, which lead me to question enough to get to atheism on my own (my parents were never strong about anything on the subject, let us kids decide on our own).

I've seen the little Muslim children grow up being indoctrinated, and they become devote adults just like Christianity does (unless they convert). Most people don't know that men have a dresscode in Islam too. So, for example, if you are a man wearing shorts, then that's a sin...but, men very often get away with breaking rules vs. women. I won't go into detail, because it will start a long rant. It's true that becomes an atheist starts with reading and understanding the book. When I was converting: Islam said "yes," Christianity said "no." I was afraid of Hell and God didn't make anything clearer. I don't miss the entrapment.

My only experience with Muslims has been online and they seem utterly ill prepared to deal with atheists. They'll engage Christians slightly better as they obviously have had a form of education on how to handle other believers but with atheists they spin their wheels and sink. I suspect it has something to do with the dearth of atheists in Mulsim countries and the fact that as a religious culture it hasn't had to address nonbelievers for so long that it has forgotten how. When I first converted, it seemed like a lot of things made sense over Christianity, but I then understood that Islamic cultures (typically Arab) only usually associate with there own. There's no one to question. I have friends from Saudi Arabia...one of the many Islamic countries where they kill apostates. They literally have public squares and a ritual. There are many people who left or want to leave Islam, but they will literally lose there children, be killed, jailed, etc. I can't speak about ISIS until I do more research, because I don't want to say incorrect facts, but one example is the killing of gay men. ISIS threw a man off of a building. That's literally what Muhammad's cousin, Ibn Abass, said to do (Hadith). Anyway, I've always wanted to learn about different cultures and religions. Anthropology classes, etc.

At least Christians have a collection of writings which were written by dozens of people over a few thousands years which tells them what they believe is true unlike people who accept something as true only because they believe it, or someone else told them it was true. Most atheists believe that everything came from nothing with no evidence to support this. Christians believe that God created everything, perhaps thru the process of the Big Bang, because that is what is taught in the Bible. This is not evidence but what is told us, but which makes more sense that nothing created everything or something, which Christians call God, did?

Let me preface by saying I'm an atheist and do not believe this even happened, but their logic is that God is perfect and people who are not perfect cannot be in his presence. So when people sin, they are then imperfect. What they believe is Jesus took on all the punishment for the whole world's imperfection to balance the scales and therefore have the ability to be in God's presence.
