I rehabilitated a 140lb Great Dane Fear aggression. I was asked to help because he was killing livestock, but I quickly realized that wasn't the root of his behavioural problems. Titus the Great Dane is now able to be handled by the owner off leash around the livestock and be relaxed and no longer attacks strangers 😁 we need more people who know how to correct and follow through with dogs like this thank you for your dedication not many trainers can help because they are set in their ways

Totally agree! The way Tom treats owners is the same way he treats the dogs - show them what to do, correct them when they go wrong, but always treat them with respect and never humiliate or abuse them.

It’s so fantastic to see a “trainer” take an approach that helps both the dog and the owner to put an end the anxiety and aggression in order for them both enjoy a much better quality of life. God Bless. I am a former rot pit mix therapy dog owner who trained an amazing dog with the help of classes, family and friends. I am curious if with my limitations due to wounds from surgery if I could do something in this field to help others and their dogs to be able to enjoy the same happiness and quality I was able to enjoy with Roxy RIP.

Well done Thomas. You're so right about dog training being very commercialised . I get so fed up with he dog trainer wars. So long as some trainer with the ability trains/helps the dog ,does it really matter . Feeding vast amounts of rewards won't fix some issues.

Hi, Tom! Question: how do you know after doing a few sessions that the dog isn’t just better around you, but is getting better in general? In other words maybe you just taught him not to be afraid of you specifically and to be more confident around you and your facility… How do you make sure that he’s generally better? Thanks!
@johncspine2787 Жыл бұрын
It’s training the owner equally to the dog, the owner takes these same techniques and applies them to many different situations. You can’t “fix” a dog in just a couple sessions, it takes calm, consistent leadership applied over time. Just showing the owner what is possible, and things like how constant leash pressure isn’t actually control, but makes the dog tense that works over time. Watch more of Tom’s vids where owners come in, he says “ok, walk the dog and I’ll watch,” and see how they pull constantly up on the leash as they watch, then see what Tom does..

I have a rescue AnatolianX that we have been working with for @ 8 months. She is @ 2, and is wonderful with my husband and me, as well as all of our livestock, but she is hyper protective and human aggressive. Every trainer I have talked with says put her down, but she is vital for our little farm as she keeps predators away. And we love her. But my friends and family are very upset and the neighbors are tired of her barking. I don't feel it is excessive, there is always a reason, but it is directed at them when they come close to our property. I have watched several of your videos and am starting to feel a glimmer of hope. Is there a book or a blog that will help give me the tools to start? What is the remote that you mentioned? How long should training sessions be? How can I work with the dog by myself? So hopeful that maybe we can save her from being put down.

I know this is a year old. But wow this gives me hope that I can save and build my relationship with my german shepard. From watching your videos, I’m going to work on our relationship. I’m still learning, but with so much progress that you do within minutes is amazing. I have a question, what if your german shepard isn’t the only dog in the household? I have a 9 year old chihuahua and he doesn’t like my german shepard at all. I just keep them separated and take them on separate walks, but take them to the backyard at the same time. But my chihuahua is constantly growling at him. My german shepard has been in my life for a year and he’s a year and 3 months. Should I still be doing the same routine with hanging out with my dogs at separate times?
@warwingsenthusiast56726 жыл бұрын
Fileesha Saenz Sooner or later, You are going to have to let them build a bond together. The Chihuahua seems to be very territorial and German Shepherds are also very, Very territorial. I think the best way to get them used to each other is by joining their walks together (At least for 5-10 minutes before you do separate walks.

Hi Thomas you are awesome. I am veterinarian from Mexico. I am a dog groomer and a dog walker. I do try to educate general public about several dog subjects. I do it for free just like you do, so i understand exactly why you do it. I am not a trainer i just like to walk and talk about dogs, and my goal it is just to help people have good dog citizens . I do have a facebook page that is call "Se Lustran Perros", I do have several videos and it appears that there are many people whom like to see them. My videos are completely different from what you do. I am more like general info about breeds and medicine and behavior, I like to talk about nature too in a fun mix, from my point of view of course. All of my videos are in Spanish although I am planing in making some in English. I would really appreciate your opinion about what i do, and any feedback from some body like you would be awesome, although i understand it could be difficult for you to follow my stories, unless you speak Spanish, never the less i know very well that you understand dog and men behavior, and it might be possible even the language barrier to understand what is my point. Thank you very much for your work you are an inspiration to me, keep on going. Manuel Gonzalez. facebook.com/ellustradordeperros/

Curious has this dog been trained in Schutzhund for protection work? I've seen some dogs trained amazingly well in Schutzhund and others that have been ruined due to poor handling and improper protection training/follow up. Also, do you have an update on Titan and will he always require an e-collar to walk in public with his owner? Nice to see the turnaround with this dog. Curious how he's doing now? Do you work with dogs out in public places (walking in town etc.) once they become comfortable in your setting, taking it to the next level?

My dog is a German Shepherd mix and he is very similar to Titan, I like in California and I just wish I could go and see you for guidance and training for my dog. He is fearful of all dogs big or small and every human. He approaches them in an aggressive way that I’ve tried fixing by either distracting him with a treat or just walking the other way. He is eight months old this month and I need help, I don’t want to ever give him up because he is my first dog. I need help and I don’t want to go from trainer to trainer spending so much money because they were not able to correct this behavior, I need you and your knowledge on how to approach this. Do you think this fear-based aggression is due to a lack of socialisation of the dog by the owner when the dog was younger?
@MARISALA-SS4 жыл бұрын
That is very often a reason, or a bad experience as a puppy. It can also be due to inexperienced handlers, the dog feels fear and insecurity because the handler isn't confident. Confident handler = secure dog.

some of your methods are good others merely okay but it gets results...my issue with your video is your constant drumming of how other trainers couldn't fix the dog. I too specialize in aggressive dogs however instead of talking about myself I prefer to teach the owners about dog body language so they can recognize when the pet is reaching the red line. just a thought...I unsubbed for that reason alone
@kliserio016 жыл бұрын
The fear agresion come from poor socialization in his jounger age. Back yard dogs ... No interaction Whit strange people in his younger age. People doesn't know there are windows that closes in the dogs stages. If the dog doesn't receive the correct exposure to those experiences... The dog will make a wrong reaction to those exposures... So it's very important to be responsible Whit your dog and give them the proper treatment in his younger stages. Expose the dog to the diferents situations your dog will encounter in his older years. Don't expect a dog to react to a scenario the way you want if the dog has never been exposed the right way went it was a puppy. 2-5 Mont's... Habituation 5-10 deszensibilitation ( this are the afraid stage cause it's more aware of the world sorrundings) of reactivity to those things the dog doesn't know. Has to be carefully expose so It can have a good experience.
