I don’t think Rocky is doing anything wrong-it’s all part of the learning process for a white belt. I’m getting older too, but I’d never advise a white belt to go slow like that. When I roll with them, I often close myself off, sometimes even give them my back or other dominant positions, and I end up submitting them 10 or 15 times during a roll. This is how they’ll learn to be more thoughtful when rolling with higher belts. Over time, they’ll also develop a deeper respect for physical conditions, age differences, and so on. I’m not trying to be harsh here, I’m just genuinely sharing my perspective on the situation. Rocky needs to roll with more intensity when facing blue and purple belts of their own age. If they don’t, they risk limiting their growth. If Rocky slowed down on their own and found that balance, kudos to them. But if they were encouraged to roll slower against their will, that’s not ideal-because now they’re unhappy.

This is a great comment and very thoughtful. It’s not evident in this video, but Rafi still goes pretty hard with all belt levels. What we’re trying to help him with is becoming more aware of the reckless maneuvers-like rushing in, which we saw in the first video. Now he’s focusing on being more deliberate while still applying pressure and intensity. The idea is for him to find that balance: going hard but with control. When he gets reckless, he ends up in submissions, which is a learning moment that reinforces the importance of being thoughtful in his approach. Thanks again for sharing. This is just the type of feedback we're looking for.
