I'm usually more chill when getting shuffler screwed and playing aggro than when getting shuffler screwed and playing control. I'm also much more likely to finish the game by emoting good game (and I do mean it as a gesture of sportsmanship) because losing a 3 minute match is a lot less frustrating than winning most of a 20 minute match and losing right at the end because of a few mismatched draws.
@mathewhill55564 жыл бұрын
I'm the opposite. There is usually enough scry in my control decks to get to cards I need. If I am being shuffler screwed at least I can dig 2, 3, sometimes 4 plus cards into my deck. With aggro you end up top decking to an opponent with card advantage while everything you play is shut down, and then you draw your third land in a row. It's probably top 3 of the worst possible existential sufferings that exists.

Aggro players aren't the angry ones. The angry ones are the aggro players playing BAD aggro decks. Against Rogues, in particular, you've got to have the ability to drain them of their cards while putting enough pressure on them quickly while never letting up. Which means either draw or cards that recur themselves. Mono-Black is a solid aggro deck against Rogues as it has a minimum of three good sources of recurrence in Skyclave Shade, Demonic Embrace and Cling to Dust. I also had a Mono-Red deck that played Goma Fada Vanguard over Intimidator and ran Wayward Guide-Beast to make Akoum Hellhound more consistently scary and Bolt Hound to turn basically every creature into something that kills every Rogue they're facing. Phoenix of Ash and two Underworld Rage-Hounds formed the escape package (the latter only being good when games went long). The rest of it was rounded out with the basic Mono-Red staples: Knight, Bonecrusher, Infuriate (yes silly Rogues player, block my 0/1 with your crab thinking it's just an Embercleave enabler...do it, do it NOW!) and Embercleave . No Torbran though. Deck would slam up against the Big Green wall but would consistently pressure Rogues and dissect them one trade at a time until that hasteyboy Phoenix could finish the job. Definitely less fun than the bordering on midrange Mono-Black deck I pivoted to as the season went on but, IMO, more fun than Mono-Green Aggro and more consistent than this particular variant of Winota (or, really, IME any Winota deck).
@jameslacy72364 жыл бұрын
19:22 This makes all the sense. With Gruul, Mono Red and White, and even some of the Rogues, meta feels very agro and I have played a lot of agro to try and keep tempo. But against control with a good draw, or agro with a better draw, you do nothing. Well, except get salty. Keep up the great work! CKC

Re: Salty players: Honestly, yes CGB, as an aggro player I feel like I'm saltier than most. For me it's because there's just so many cheap answers to everything aggro does. Unless the opponent draws poorly and/or you absolutely roll them, you never stand a chance if you're on the draw. The only answer is to play control, which for me is super boring for the same reason I get salty when I play against control: Only one person in the match gets to play Magic. How is that fun? I feel miserable when I crush someone with my control decks, but what other option do I have in order to get my daily and weekly wins? Especially when folks are playing super miserable tier decks like Rogues in the Play queue. :|

The shuffler is what is most broken. You can test the color picks and card rarity with mana color choices. Seeing 3 of the same card come up or 6 mana draw runs are common. When a trap deck shows a RNG driven game and the end of the shuffler I will spend money on the game. (trap deck: is a deck that uses land and color rare spells the rest of the deck does not use.) I firmly believe the pack breaking and reward cards earned are also capped on what you spend you have a chance at. Earning 2 or more rare of crap type before earning a first sweet uncommon is suspect.

19:20 not just aggro decks, but linear decks (both playing with and against). There is very little build up or true strategy, because the game became way more impactful per play (each card has a higher value per se, and even higher synergies). So every game feels the same: you either curve smoothly, with every single card needed for the moment, or you get stomped.

Do you think it would make sense to change the ranking system for something where wins from "play fist" give you 4 points and wins from "go second" give you 5 points instead? Would that be fair?
@mathewhill55564 жыл бұрын
Some strategies prefer second turn. Also with the law of large numbers a 50% chance of going first for every player in every game means statistically there is no advantage or disadvantage given to any play/deck in a meta analysis of the game as a whole.

@mathewhill55564 жыл бұрын
@@DanyF02 manaless dredge according to reddit benefits from going second. Also in a control mirror going second affords one more card.
@DanyF024 жыл бұрын
@@mathewhill5556 I don't know about dredge, I hardly ever played modern, but that's mostly irrelevant for MTGA. In control mirror match-ups, you being 1 mana ahead by going first allows you to play the right counterspells on time and actually "control" the game. You'll also be the 1st to be able to double-spell per turn to get around the other guy's counterspells. It gives you the option to fight over something at the end of the opponent's turn 4 so that you can play your 5 drop in peace. Or maybe he lets you get away with whatever you played on turn 4 just because he's afraid of something worst on your turn, you win either way. You have tempo on your side from the start until your opponent does something about it, and usually whoever plays 1st just puts himself at risk first. Even on the off-chance that there might be a scenario where going 2nd helps you somehow, that would certainly be rare enough that it would still be fair for wins from going 2nd to be worth little more.
