It's wild how good Temporary Lockdown is. In historic it absolutely clowns aggro, lifegain, and even the haymaker decks if you can eat up their early mana rocks/creatures.

@@NeostormXLMAX Probably because it's less useful overall. It plays like a control card, but it wants to be in an aggro deck and often, the thing you want to kill with it will usually mean you're losing your own creatures without necessarily handling everything on your opponent's board. It's usually just better to run the more reliable answer and the faster a format is, the more powerful "restricted to low cmc" cards become.

@@NeostormXLMAX id say it being a sorcery makes it worse in general for what it does. if you are playing against an aggressive deck it feels great but otherwise against decks who never tap their creatures until they are ahead you are going to have to tap your own into theirs to not lose them, and they could still block anyway if they sense the board wipe coming, which can be worse and more trouble overall then just using a nice little enchantment to sweep it all away. Also imo if you are getting flooded by stuff more expensive than 2 mana and you have to wipe the board you should just have a better board wipe/removal ready anyway at that point.

There's a fun esper lockdown loop list. Much like the scrollshift/town value engines before with lockdown, but the real key is Wishclaw Talisman. Able to get lockdown and seal itself away, every loop through lockdown wishclaw talisman gets you another scrollshift/town/etc, and run a full toolbox of hate cards like rest in peace, authority, the end, etc

Have you been considering adding the Stormchaser's Talent to your deck? You could create a loop of releasing tne Lockdown with Talent under it, upgrading the Talent ro recover the Soul Partition and casting the Lockdown once again. It's 7 mana and you can do it every turn again and again 😈

I am a newer player to Magic the gathering, and i REFUSE to play mono red or boros. But i do think u haven't considered another faction for control. Orzhof control with Authority of the Consols to make every creature tapped and gain life. One copy of candytrail to sometimes turn one scry 2, and also gains you 3 life and draws a card. 2 cut down & go for the throat. 2 anoint with affliction. 4 tomes, 4 founding the third path and 4 copies of the black card that surveils 2 and draws 2. Cause losing 2 life in a deck that gains alot doesnt matter. 2 copys of archangel Elspeth for token generation and board control. 3 sunfalls and 1 deadly coverup (cause i can only afford one copy cause i have barely any rares left.) and i forgot the 2 or 3 smites i have. And lastly 1 copy of feldons cane. This deck is so good!

Short answer: 2 mana removal for any nonland. Also can target your stuff, which makes it a protection spell.

Tempo strong af. In the early game it and cards like it basically say "your opponent skips their turn", which helps you get to your more impactful turns. Then the opponent spends more mana playing the same card and you just counter/board wipe. Try playing a full tempo deck some time and see how strong soul partition or a measly flood maw is for yourself.
