Hi, I was the 2nd place Boba player for the event. Your analysis on the card choices for my decklist were pretty spot on. Here are some of the reasonings for why I slotted certain cards and why I played the deck: -No crafty smugglers After testing extensively, Smuggler didn't really advance the board state at all. Shoretrooper theoretically does the same thing in terms of trading in early game. Whatever Smuggler would kill in two hits, so would Shoretrooper. However, regardless if vs. control or not, Shoretrooper put a lot more pressure midgame to even late and would be a really good OB target for 6 dmg if they didn't respect him. Pulling him out with Vader as a 4/3 was super relevant the way I approached the control matchups. -51 cards To me, having 1 extra cards doesn't impact my consistency at all, and sometimes there is that one card that tips a certain matchup in your favor that you don't want to sacrifice a side deck slot for. Looking back, I don't think that card would have been cunning. IMO, Boba was the best deck to take to that event to make top cut. I was between Boba and Vader/Blue but opted not to play the deck out of concerns for time. I made the right call that Sabine would be the most represented deck, and walking through the venue almost all Vader Blue decks went into time and got a double loss or conceded out of fear of getting one round 1. Boba is pretty much the great equalizer in terms of matchups and is favorable into almost everything. Most of my matchups were against Luke. Overall I played against 3 Lukes, 2 Vader Green, 1 Vader Blue, 1 Sabine, 1 Palp Red, 1 Han, and the winning double Blue Iden deck twice. This is a lot of a YT comment, but happy to talk more about it.

I appreciate the long comment. As someone who also wants to take Bobba ECL to my local store showdown I would like to now your thoughts on Cartel Spacer, I have been testing that card but the stats just do not seem to be good enough. I also would like to know your thoughts regarding cunning, is that a card your would increase the count to 2? How did cunning perform against control? Thanks
@KangtheCurtis
@KangtheCurtis 3 ай бұрын
@@carloa.a.2218 Cartel Spacer can definitely go as long as you aren't taking out the other ships. I sided them out every game. Going back, I would have taken them out completely and replacing with 2 Cunning (for total of 3) and 1 StarViper. Cunning was good overall. Most of the time I used it to close out games against control. They often don't account for the +4. I would have maindecked 1 Devestator as the 51st card for control. Traditional Boba doesn't have any clean answers for Avenger, Vader leader, or Palp leader.

Thanks man I appreciate the comment and i agree with what you say, boba seem like a good choice for the tournament And I would be curious to know why it did so poorly. 51 cards does statistically affect the consistency of the deck , but at this point the margin is some small it doesn't surprise me that you did feel it, I don't think it's a big deal either way.

@@Thorrk_THT A lot of them were paired against each other in early rounds. Also, for some of the people that I knew who were piloting the deck that day, all of them were not playing Gamorean Guards and were not playing Confiscate in the side.

Curtis was, despite me beating him twice, the best player I played against on Saturday. Aside from the steadfast ECL play in swiss, which we will not speak of here, he played perfectly. Thanks I appreciate the feedback Just to specify when I say that the decklist is very similar to mine I don't imply that they took my list, but yeah I probably over emphasized on that so I will be careful next time. About the stuff I claim to have "invented" I am referring to the very specific sequencing that allow me to get Vador on turn 3 which I came up with on September 2023 (TowerNumber9 even made a video about it) , and I was basically dunking on myself here saying that it's easy to get emotionally attached to a thing you've created and make the wrong decision as the result. So this was meant as an autocritic that people can learn from not as a praise ^^

I took Iden Red to this tournament. I never got to finish a game 2 (bo3,) and always ran out of time and ties being a double loss put me out of top cut instantly. By the time we finished game 1.. 15 minutes were left on the clock on average

That's too bad, double loss sure is brutal. Iden Blue has the exact same issue (if not worse), and yet it won the tournament so it is definitely possible to pilot that style of decks to a win in a tournament settings. If it takes you 40 minutes on average to finish a game with Iden red that's not normal at all, maybe you need more practice to be able to play faster. This deck is surely not for everyone :/

I am not sure if it is the lack of product that is influencing the decks being built in my local meta, but Vader is everywhere. It usually is the most used Leader, I come up against. Boba's, Palps, and other pricier decks are seldom, which is to be expected, but the fact it only takes a handful of cards to transform Vader into a competitive deck is impressive.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think you can grab the blunt hunter crew and return the same uwing you played to your hand because it hasn’t hit the discard pile yet. It would be u-wing into bounty hunter and then bounty hunter would hit the play field before uwing is put into discard. All triggers would have to resolve and the uwing does not resolve until after you pick a card with bounty hunter which means u can’t take the same card
@Thorrk_THT

You can, for the exact same reason you can place restock at the bottom of the deck with its own effect. In SWU you place the card in the discard before you resolve the effect.

Hey, your video about playing against this soft and hard control type of decks still valid? I exclusively play Han and still trying to figure out, how to battle these control decks. You mentioned Han is well suited against control, but why is that? My first thought was, you probably don't ressources any of your threats (Uwing, Han, walker and home One) and try to play 1 consecutive threat after another at 7,8,9 ressources? Meanwhile falcon is there for chip damage? If I leave falcon on the board it gets removed with highest priority. Anyway, your changes improved the aggro matches by a lot. Really liking the gunship. Was thinking about swapping 1 traitorous for change of Heart to improve the Matchup against control a bit. Thanks for the video Thorrk!! Best SWU content by a far margin :)
@Thorrk_THT

Yes this video is still 100% valid Han Green has everything Control hates: - Extremely resilient and high value in late game (U-wing, Home one, walker, bright hope bounce loop...) - Hand disruption (Spark and bodhi rook) - Threats that can attack right away and recursive (Falcon and Home one +falcon) - Ability to kill very quickly if threat left unchecked (big bodies + surprise strike) -Speed (resupply and han's ability). Change of heart is a good idea especially vs palpatine decks. Personnaly I won't play less traiterous becasue it's too good vs boba. (unless people start maindecking upgarde hate.

The idea is skip turn 1 and play a removal on turn 2, but I agree that without force choke and open fire the early game seems shaky, maybe he got lucky and always got what he needed in early game, or maybe childsen and vigilance at 4 is just strong enough to make up for that.
@MeepleonFire
@MeepleonFire 3 ай бұрын
@@Thorrk_THT yeah Childsen and Vigilance are enough, and then Iden and then the healing from Juggernaut. There is so much healing, it's impossible for sabine green to even approach the 30HP. Sabine green was being crushed all day without even sweating. And I disagree about this deck being challenging and long to play, against aggro and midrange Luke/Chirrut, it was 2/0 and finished earlier each time. He had the chance to not facing control but every control vigilance miror is intense to play.
@SawseTV
@SawseTV 3 ай бұрын
@@Thorrk_THT It was strong enough in general. I played 14 games against Sabine in total, and lost 2 of them ( one against Sabine Red ). I didn't have Power->Childsen every game obviously. Sabine can still get you, because its Sabine, but after having playing 500+ games of Iden Red before switching to Blue, it didn't feel much worse as a whole. Its either on par or barely worse in the matchup. I did miss Open Fire though, to be fair.

35:32 "It's going to make For A Cause I Believe In very very weak." I think that's ab it of a hyperbolic statement. Based on the ratios above, on average FICIBI does 3.4 damage. So we can say 3, instead of 4. Is 1 damage a lot? Sure, but clearly Garett felt that the other non heroic cards would score him 1+ damage elsewhere in the game
@Thorrk_THT
@Thorrk_THT 3 ай бұрын
There are 16 non heroic card in his deck which represents 26,7% of his deck, so his odds on FICIBI are 2.932 damages not 3.4. (correct me If my math are wrong) Already making your FCBI deal around 3 damage on average is a big downgrade, 1 damage absolutely matters. But it also means that the chances of it doing only 2 is quite real. There is a reason why almost every Sabine/Leia deck plays no more than 5 non-heroic cards (and on average 3), so 16 is wild to say the least. It obviously worked out for him but I still would not recommend it :)

The presence of vigilance and restock in the main board has made the control mirror miserable. If you don’t see those cards, you simply lose. There’s very little counter play, besides putting on a ton of aggression (which a lot of heavy control lists can’t do).

Maybe you should listen again I am not destroying the deck at all. I am saying it's a complete different kind of Han decks that is taking a different approach, I also say that I am unable to say if this deck is better or worse than the green version (talking about this particular blue version). And just so you know there is no such things as an "unbiased opinion" every opinion is biased, if you disagree with it that's fine but then you should use argument and explain precisely what you disagree with.

@Thorrk_THT you literally said resupply is a better card in the han deck and should be what is played, and then proceeded to bash Luke Skywalker and say U wing is a way better card over Luke. And yes you can be unbiased, but you choose to be biased based on what you think things should be, not what someone else is trying to build, also you basically said that deck was designed to destroy the meta, that's what happens when a meta is created.

@@starscream003the point I was trying to make and that you completely missed is that playing the (what I consider in my own biased opinion) "best card" is not the only way to build a powerful deck. Here the player decided to go for a metagame approach (trying to counter the meta) which is a very effective way to build a deck. and my conclusion was that I have no idea which one of the two approach is stronger in this case (because I never played the blue control Han).
