Hello dear sir. May I inform you that Aglianico has been brought back to Greece since 20+ years by one very famous winery in Greece, named Hantzimihali (Χαντζημιχάλη). They produce and sell it every few years, not every year, because they want it to be just right in order to make it and bottle it. I was lucky enough to drink a bottle of Aglianico Hantzimihali of 2008, which nowdays is very rare to find. One of the most impressive wines I have tasted for a long time! This grape was brought to Italy in the times of Magna Grecia 700-500BC. It's name "Aglianico" derives from the word "Hellenico" which in Greek means "Greek". One of my favorite grapes!

I'm surprised California hillside / slope Aglianico doesn't sell for $100+ per bottle. Problem is Cabernet is over planted and overhyped. Need someone with some money to back a more appropriate varietal like Aglianico for the premier warmer applletions of California.

Hi Unobtanium: Thanks for tuning into my channel. I agree but CA is all about Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. It’s their brand, so to speak. I’m not sure Aglianico would work their culturally or climatically. There is a reason why it only grows in Southern Italy. It is my hope it stays there. Over extracted, over oaked Aglianico seems awful. Cheers, Dave

Actually the climate of NorCal and the Central Coast (minus the coastal regions) is more reflective of the southern Mediterranean than Bordeaux which is much cooler than St Helena, Calistoga and the Napa Valley floor. Cabernet came about somewhat by accident with Stags Leap winning the best Red competition in the Paris 1976 tasting. Ofcourse their site in the Stags Leap AVA is an appropriate one for Cabernet as it is a cooler site in Napa. Now you see Cabernet planted in much warmer sites where it really shouldn't be if *wines of place* is important in creating high end wines. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it very much!
