Another great video guys ,keep up the good work ,shame the industry has gone quiet just as I want to purchase my first truck ,I maybe wrong as I know there's less opportunity for work in a rigid but I can't help thinking local rigid work is the best way to build a customer base and get direct work ,I currently do class 1 general haulage and it seems like you find a job on a platform like hx from one of the big companies that can't do it that day and once you have done that job you start looking for your next one and never really being able to build the business but just rely on online platforms .....anyway great advice and that your always offering to help others wanting to go into the industry
@AgnesMann
@AgnesMann 2 жыл бұрын
this might be a good idea to built the customer base this way. the work is really quiet to the point that we are thinking of actually downgrading so to minimise the cost. Hopefully it will pick up real soon. How long you have been doing class 1?
@christiangray3270
@christiangray3270 2 жыл бұрын
Downgrading ?...you mean only run one truck for a while ?......that would be a shame .you say your in mk maybe try traction work for local companies like k and k as there in Milton Keynes. IV had my class 1 licence for 7 years but only been driving them for one year .it just seems very hard to get direct customers for class 1 work so when you get the jobs online ,everyone else has already taken there cut of the money and then rates are not so good

Probably the best solution would be to find a person who will arrange the job from the freight exchange. And as a business owner, you have to get behind the wheel. Looking at the rates in the market, you could get 130 miles, £ 600 for a route. around £ 90 costs you fuel one way. Of course, you have to remember about the depreciation of the truck and fixed costs such as payment, leasing, insurance, etc. And if you don't have to come home and you can come home after e.g. five days, you can make a really nice coin. I'm just talking about one truck. You have to have a nice job to hire people. All the best for a You

I love your channel and your honesty. The long and short of it is to get your own customers and customers that pay on time. Amazon not rich by giving out money to their employees or contractors, they will squeeze the smaller firms as much as legally possible. There's plenty of work out there for fools who are willing to work for free.

I keep telling people that sometimes we shouldn't allow the good times (peak season) mash up our judgment when making these business decisions. Always work on the basis of worse case scenario especially if money is tight. Don't go for a 2nd and 3rd truck if you don't have established clients.

You guys are just amazing to honestly share this kind of information. I'm from Thailand and nowadays this kind of program are really famous for parcel delivery company in Thailand. And sadly that most of people who don't have enough knowledge for running their own truck couldn't make it through the next few month! They cannot afford to pay for the installment, fuel and other hiding cost because of the given credit term from the company. The main reason is that they were tempting by the monthly offering figures which make them think that they can cover all the expenses. The current margins for transport business in Thailand are around 10-20%... How about in UK? Is it as low as my country, I wonder... Thank you for such an amazing video. You guys just amazing.

That is only one aspect of running a transport business. You have many others that they will not tell you how much goes into it. Just think about it- why wouldn’t they just do it on their own- rather than getting others to do it. You get stuck in a contract for a year and if you have no experience or knowledge you might regret getting into it. And those that have experience and knowledge would not touch this program. Just our opinion but it’s your call. Let us know if you do sign up what is your experience

@AgnesMann yes, but in your video you stated that you could be stuck with 10 trucks, you can't, if it doesn't work out you give them back to Amazon and presumably the next victim gets them. They told me this very clearly in the webinar. To clarify, I looked at it (briefly) and moved on, I'm 4th generation in haulage. But I do think you need to be accurate.

well, look at the turnover vs profit figures that AFP states. If you think you want to have responsibility of running a business and end up with 60k a year profit and that's satisfy you, go ahead. We did not think this is a satisfactory figure (well less to what we make independently with smaller turnover, so clearly their costs are much higher as everything is outsourced from Amazon...) you need to make a decision for yourself, but as for us we would not step into this arrangement.
@gurindersingh9333
@gurindersingh9333 2 жыл бұрын
The 48.5k is there for the O licence requirement of 10 trucks so should not be involved in any cost of running the business, it just has to sit there in the bank as a requirement for the Traffic Commissioner. I am in the process of applying for the AFP program and am now having second thoughts. I am at the interview stage which is next week. It's concerning that you mention the ratings are affected for things out of your control like traffic and accidents. The pressure is on us as company owners to manage the drivers which they insist is there main concern, driver sickness and unreliability will cause major issues, as who goes out when something comes up last minute, I can drive myself to cover one driver but anymore than that and they'll be trucks just sitting there, I also heard you get fined for missed runs. Some of these concerns would be the same for running any company, though the profit against the time and effort to run this AFP seems too less, they've dangled a carrot by stating you can earn upto £200k which would be amazing, realistically it seems that would only be achieved if all the drivers turned up each day and on time to every pickup and drop off. Plus side is Amazon offer a lot of support which as a new comer to this industry maybe is a bonus. A lot to think about and ponder.....

Do you have to drive for Amazon through A company that partners with them or do they hire drivers straight through Amazon.
@AgnesMann
@AgnesMann Жыл бұрын
Not sure what your question actually asks... When you sign up to AFP, you are responsible as a business owner to hire your own drivers... You can drive yourself too, but not for Amazon, but for your own company which contracts out to Amazon... I hope this clears it but let me know if still not sure...

Amazon play book . You buy the trucks when there expensive they have 48k down payment. They can write off vehicles ect against tax when the economy crash’s you loose the lorries and your 48k they buy them for Massive discount as there will be plenty unemployment drivers hire them for minimum wage . Couldn’t imagine owning lorries in this environment not one incentive to go solo . Drive them if loose your job or on 3 days a week claim rest off dole . And this recession is going to be rough .

With Amazon, they pick their favourites!! So if your face doesn’t fit, you won’t make money. Over Christmas I had some very good runs that were earning me four digits per run. Until I expressed my beliefs (as a Christian….signed an email have a blessed day ..) AND/OR they found I was African, my runs got taken away. At first they would cancel when I was halfway up the M1 to pick up the load (the cancellation fee obviously never covered the fuel I had used up to that point )! At the moment there’s no money to be made at Amazon and the fact that they are a prejudiced bunch!

But if you think of it from the business perspective it’s not a lot of money for 24/7 responsibility. You worry about everything from the minute you wake up to the minute before you wake up. It’s not just 9-5 job where after clocking out you relax. When truck breakdown- you must arrange it to be fixed and call the customer to tell them and either cancel the job (loss of money, and reputation) or arrange subcontractors to do it (if they are available). Yes the money is better but many people fail because they can’t cope with the pressure. Hope that helps you see the difference. Thanks 🙏🏻

Hi Mr Greg Gidney.I have know few people who went with Amazon AFP and not so happy as they are stuck. Too much headache for little money. We are giving people our opinion. I don’t think AFP is worth the hassle. I do also agree on your points, drop in performance affects your contract and anyone looking to take 10 trucks with Amazon and working 7days managing 10 to 15 drivers is better of getting work through agencies and work as driver. Your points and taken on board and we will look in AFP again and do another updated video. Thank you 🙏

I really appreciate the honest opinion on the blind risk and the fact that amazon doesn't want to take any risk associated with ruining a truck company. Any ways amazon does provide maintenance cost ,fuel and toll for AFPs. But regarding the money deposit not sure what they do with it incase you decide to leave the program if it didn't work for you

I like these two. I’ve had my licence for C1 for 12 years. Of which 5 years not driving as was in army. Literally had to teach myself how to drive 😂 when I left. Anyway these two are very professional, informative and likeable people. They also have a couple of very reliable units. VOLVO FH16. They are by far some of if not the most reliable trucks on the road. Great discounts on 3-5 year old ones too. Im thinking of becoming an owner operator. Running alongside my clothing business. So im learning the ropes and the dos and donts. Anyone reading this. Im not rich, I have a family 3 kids and a wife. Own a home and have cars that are decent. Meaning I have a lot of outgoings. But I still make my dreams come true. You can do the same. Never ever ever let anyone say you can’t do something. Like my dad did. Now look. Keep working hard and anything is possible I promise you. Thanks.
