These kids' lives will forever be affected in a positive way by this music teacher.

Say what you will, but I love seeing the kids and how they are FEELING the music. They're not just singing it because it's a song or because they're in chorus. Just look at them sway, close their eyes, etc. God I hope my kids grow up to appreciate music like this. ANY music, regardless of genre.

Agree!! I just wrote that somewhere else, they're so sweet and real. I prefer them on their own more than the duets with original singers. Though this one is very nice! With most of them the 'star's' energy comes across as being about them which kind of ruins the buzz. LOL.

I've watched a few of these videos now and I've got to say the teacher is phenomenal. If only all teachers had such passion and commitment to excellence. These kids will remember him for the rest of their lives, I'm sure. It's lovely to see kids so engaged and singing with such expression.

Agreed. Knowing the school has probably lost a lot of funding for chorus, to see them STILL posting these videos restores some hope. The logistics and hoops theve had to jump through to just be able to post these videos, and for them to continue to jump through these hoops shows their dedication to this program. Also it's got to help engage the kids and make them excited. Anything that gets kids excited for any school that doesnt injure anyone is a win. Also it doesnt seem to just be a show. This teacher seem to know their stuff and has found a way to teach young children these things, in a way they can understand, which will help the health and longevity of their voice (not just in regards to singing, but speaking). Teaching vocal technique is not the easiest. Even adults struggle with it (kindof like algebra. A lot of people dont get it until all of a sudden it clicks and they have that ah ha moment) and it's something you can overcomplicate when trying to explain. But it's quite obvious these kids are learning not just how to read music and key and pitch and chest voice vs head voice vs mix, but they also seem to be taught the mechanics of it, which is important when it comes to things like support vs strain. Just bravo.

This takes a whole new meaning sung by children. So many have parents walk out, leave or worse. As a teacher, I see that heartbreak. Tears. This song is so much more than what I originally thought. God help the children abandoned, lost, and crying out for help.

The emotion that the kids put into it is mesmerizing. You look at most choruses today and the kids just don't care because they have to take it for credits or something unless its like a show choir. The fact that these kids are in 5th grade is amazing. Great job.

All kids need to experience this feeling or succeeding through the Arts. Bravo to PS22…..in my hometown…New York City! When I see something like this, then read an article how another, yet another music, art, etc…program is being pulled for lack of funding, solely because it doesn't bring in the money like sports do (also important but neither more so or less than, the Arts), I become so saddened. Look at the emotion these kids had when singing this song, boys and girls. Some even seemed to be signing the song, but that may have been them, emoting. Politicians, from Federal to State to County to Local and the Board of Education MUST remember and be educated about the arts. It is NOT frivolous. Learning about music helps kids with math, spelling, science, calculus, physics, algebra (in a big way. Indeed, if I didn't know how to read music, I think I would have failed algebra but I did know how to read music and through algebra, change 3/4 time into 1/4 time and the like). The Arts are always the first to be cut, but personally, I think it it equally if not more, important than many of the 'RRR' courses. I mean, they keep handwriting courses, but cut the Arts when in the end, we all write as our brains dictate us to write, regardless of what is written on those "A, B, C" placards that were in every class I was ever in…up near the ceiling…! Again, Bravo '22' and A Great Big World for bringing them music, culture, (it is a great sing, by the way) and inspiration, of course.
