The best placement for photovoltaic energy production would be the nearly 50,000 miles of interstate highway in the US that already run through and between most major cities. Trees and shade is almost nonexistent, especially in the medians. Power transmission is already available on most of it - It's a no-brainer!
@michaelbartlett68644 жыл бұрын
Consider the fact that we already own the right-of-way for the entire project and it's easy to access.
@ericdew20214 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. I think the only problem would be in cleaning the SPV panels. Both the exhaust and regular dust will accumulate on the surface, and as long as there are cars zipping by, it would be difficult to clean the surfaces. Maybe they can be tilted vertically and let the turbulence of passing cars blow the soot off the surface.

@@WadcaWymiaru This year is clearly on track to be one of the warmest in recorded history. For the glaciation to begin, the energy from the sun has to be reduced by changes in the Earths' orbit, tilt and eccentricity of orbit. The greatest reduction in insolation those could provide is more than exceeded by the heat trapped by the extra CO2 we've pumped into the atmosphere. Not only will the next glaciation be skipped but probably the four after that one as well. You'd best slap your own face to wake up.

This is a really good idea and helps power and yield. Seen as we need so much power globally some land that is out of the way could only be used if solar panels were to charge a huge battery pack already loaded in a lorry which could drive to the area the electric is needed in the evening

Well the aditional cost is just a couple extra meters of metal. So nothing big or anything. You are not even talking about a 1% more costly. edit: As long as you don't need hughe combines to drive underneath them.

Good idea but maybe just planting trees, in the same way, would be better. Then you can use the wood for biofuel. The trees would support more life than the solar system ever would.
@ronaldlindeman61364 жыл бұрын
Putting in photovoltaic panels would make much more energy than just wood for biofuel. Other plants would give more biofuel than trees would. But maybe short trees and brush, plus a PV system, would give some advantages for wildlife.

Tony Sanders why transmit over distance when you can use the power locally? I do agree in some places the deep source of heat available should be tapped into but where we live for example, there are many old mines that cross cross beneath us and it wouldn’t be suitable. It is windy as hell though... hence I’ve got an array of vawt that benefit from leading edge effects like migrating geese do.
